The Problem with Our Borders - Illegal Immigration

Immigration Reform?

Trina L.C. Sonnenberg

What is the point of immigration reform? We already have laws on the books related to immigration that are not being enforced, so what is the point of creating new laws? Laws are only as effective as the enforcement of them. It would seem to me that the solution is not to draft new laws, but to enforce the laws we already have.

I am skeptical of immigration reform because of the lack of enforcement being experienced right now. Will new laws be enforced, or will they too pass by the way in the interest of corporations and low wages?

What is all the talk regarding offering legal status to those who are already in this country illegally? That is crazy. They broke the law to get here, and they are breaking the law each day that they stay here. Do we really want to give legal rights to law breakers? Illegals are a burden on our system, so why is the government trying to figure out how to help them stay? All illegals and their children should be returned to their country of origin and barred from re-entry into this country under any circumstances. If U.S. citizens were sneaking into other countries and taking jobs away from the nationals, we'd be shot. As for all of the illegals taking up space in our prisons, send them home to be a burden on their own countries. Why should we pay to feed and house them? Let them go home and commit their crimes.

I am all for the person who wants to come to this country to better their life, but not at the expense of those of us who where born here, and certainly not if they can't do it legally, according to the laws of the United States. If I, a U.S. citizen, were caught sneaking into Mexico, I'd probably be shot by the border patrol. No questions asked. I'd be killed by virtue of the fact that I didn't present my passport and cross into Mexico legally. At the very least I would be made to return to the U.S..

I say that the government should enforce the laws we have in place and prosecute those corporations and businesses that protect their profit margin by hiring illegals for low wages. That in itself is Anti-American behavior - giving jobs to those who broke the law to get them.

If you are a foreign national, and want to work in the U.S., get in line and go about it the right way; learn to speak the language and quit requiring the American citizenry to cater to you. Don't just show up without an invitation and expect us to bend over backward for you.

Furthermore, if the U.S. wants to stop the flow of drugs from south of the border, the only thing that makes sense is to legalize marijuana in this country so that it can be grown, taxed and purchased by adults, in the same way alcohol and cigarettes are. No one is coming across the border with cigarettes and booze. Why? Because they are legal. There is no profit in the smuggling of them. That is also the better way to keeping marijuana out of the hands of kids too. It is easier to regulate the stuff if it is legal and sold the way alcohol is. Otherwise you've got kids of any age able to buy it from street dealers. Once it becomes legal, street dealers will go out of business, because it will no longer be profitable to sell. Isn't that what happened to the illegal alcohol trade once prohibition was repealed? Think about it.

I am an American Citizen

This country is my birthright

I am a natural born citizen of the United States of America. My parents and their parents before them were born in this country. I was educated here and I speak English. If you want to live and work in my country, then get in line and learn about my country; learn to speak the language and pay taxes like the rest of us. I have no problem with you wanting to live here, I just require that you go about doing so legally. If you want to live here, become a citizen, learn our history and language. Don't try to make the rest of us adapt to you. This country was founded by English speaking people. I do not recall any Mexican National signatories on the Constitution, nor was it drafted in Spanish.

I am an American citizen. I am not responsible for the sins of my ancestors, I live here now, not centuries ago. I was born in the 20th century. I am not proud of what my ancestors have done to the natives of this land, but I had nothing to do with it. I can however, speak out against what foreign nationals would do to this country now.

Proud to Be An American

My great grandfather watched as his friends died in the Civil War, my father watched as his friends died in WW II, and I watched as my friends died in Vietnam.

None of them died for the Mexican Flag.

Everyone died for the U.S. flag.

Just this week, here in Texas, a student raised a Mexican flag on a school flag pole; another student took it down.

Guess who was expelled...the kid who took it down.

Kids in high school in California were sent home this week on Cinco de Mayo becausethey wore T-shirts with the American flag printed on them.

Enough is enough.

The below e-mail message needs to be viewed by every American; and every American needs to stand up for America .

We've bent over to appease the America-haters long enough. I'm taking a stand.

I'm standing up because the hundreds of thousands who died fighting in wars for this country, and for the U.S. flag can't stand up. If you agree, stand up with me.

If you disagree, please let me know.

I will gladly remove you from my e-mail list.

And shame on anyone who tries to make this a racist message.

THIS IS MY COUNTRY!

And, because I make this statement THAT DOES NOT mean I'm against immigration!!!

YOU ARE WELCOME HERE, IN MY COUNTRY!

Welcome to come here legally:

1. Get a sponsor!

2. Get a place to lay your head!

3. Get a job!

4. Live By OUR Rules!

5. Pay YOUR Taxes!
And
6. Learn the LANGUAGE like immigrants have in every other country in the past!!!

AND

7. Please don't demand that we hand over our lifetime savings of Social Security Funds to you.

When will AMERICANS STOP giving away THEIR RIGHTS???

We've gone so far the other way... bent over backwards not to offend anyone.

But it seems no one cares about the AMERICAN CITIZEN who's being offended!

Let me make this perfectly clear!

Mr. Gingrich, are you insane?

OBAMA 2012

Back in the 80's when illegals were given amnesty, it just opened the doors for more illegals. Now you want to do it again? Again, I ask, are you insane?

The only way to stop illegal immigration is to enforce the laws we have on our books, not to give a free pass to those who have already broken the law.

Your plan will be a determent to our economy. As soon as all the illegals you want to give amnesty to receive it, a new flood of illegals will pour through the borders, expecting that if they can manage to stay here long enough they'll get amnesty too. Learn from our past mistake, don't repeat it.

What if 20 Million Illegal Aliens Vacated America ?

Are You Republicans Listening?

I, Tina Griego, journalist for the Denver Rocky Mountain News wrote a column titled, "Mexican Visitor's Lament"- 10/25/07.

I interviewed Mexican journalist Evangelina Hernandez while visiting Denver last week. Hernandez said, "illegal aliens pay rent, buy groceries, buy clothes. What Happens to your country's economy if 20 million people go away?" Hummm, I thought, what would happen, so I did my due diligence, buried my nose as a reporter into the FACTS I found below.

It's a good question it deserves an honest answer. Over 80% of Americans demand secured borders and illegal migration stopped. But what would happen if all 20 million or more vacated America ? The answers I found may surprise you!

In California , if 3.5 million illegal aliens moved back to Mexico , it would leave an extra $10.2 billion to spend on overloaded school systems, bankrupt hospitals and overrun prisons. It would leave highways cleaner, safer and less congested. Everyone could understand one another as English became the dominant language again.

In Colorado , 500,000 illegal migrants, plus their 300,000 kids and grand-kids would move back 'home', mostly to Mexico . That would save Coloradans an estimated $2 billion (other experts say $7 billion) annually in taxes that pay for schooling, medical, social-services and incarceration costs. It means 12,000

gang members would vanish out of Denver alone.

Colorado would save more than $20 million in prison costs, and the terror that those 7,300 alien criminals set upon local citizens. Denver Officer Don Young and hundreds of Colorado victims would not have suffered death, accidents, rapes and other crimes by illegals.

Denver Public Schools would not suffer a 67% drop-out/flunk-out rate because of thousands of illegal alien students speaking 41 different languages. At least 200,000 vehicles would vanish from our gridlocked cities in Colorado . Denver 's 4% unemployment rate would vanish as our working poor would gain jobs at a living wage.

In Florida , 1.5 million illegals would return the Sunshine State back to America , the rule of law, and English.

In Chicago , Illinois , 2.1 million illegals would free up hospitals, schools, prisons and highways for a safer, cleaner and more crime-free experience.

If 20 million illegal aliens returned 'home', the U.S. Economy would return to the rule of law. Employers would hire legal American citizens at a living wage. Everyone would pay their fair share of taxes because they wouldn't be working off the books. That would result in an additional $401 Billion in IRS income taxes collected annually, and an equal amount for local, state and city coffers.

No more push '1' for Spanish or '2' for English. No more confusion in American schools that now must contend with over 100 languages that degrade the educational system for American kids. Our over-crowded schools would lose more than two million illegal alien kids at a cost of billions in ESL and free breakfasts and lunches.

We would lose 500,000 illegal criminal alien inmates at a cost of more than $1.6 billion annually. That includes 15,000 MS-13 gang members who distribute $130 billion in drugs annually would vacate our country.

In cities like L.A. , 20,000 members of the ' 18th Street Gang' would vanish from our nation. No more Mexican forgery gangs for ID theft from Americans! No more foreign rapists and child molesters!

Losing more than 20 million people would clear up our crowded highways and gridlock. Cleaner air and less drinking and driving American deaths by illegal aliens!

America's economy is drained. Taxpayers are harmed. Employers get rich. Over $80 billion annually wouldn't return to the aliens' home countries by cash transfers. Illegal migrants earned half that money untaxed, which further drains America 's economy which currently suffers an $8.7 trillion debt.
$8.7 trillion debt.

At least 400,000 anchor babies would not be born in our country, costing us $109 billion per year per cycle. At least 86 hospitals in California , Georgia and Florida would still be operating instead of being bankrupt out of existence because illegals pay nothing via the EMTOLA Act.

Americans wouldn't suffer thousands of TB and hepatitis cases rampant in our country-brought in by illegals unscreened at our borders.

Our cities would see 20 million less people driving, polluting and grid locking our cities. It would also put the 'progressives' on the horns of a dilemma; illegal aliens and their families cause 11% of our greenhouse gases.

Over one million of Mexico's poorest citizens now live inside and along our border from Brownsville, Texas to San Diego, California in what the New York Times called, 'colonias' or new neighborhoods. Trouble is, those living areas resemble Bombay and Calcutta where grinding poverty, filth, diseases, drugs, crimes, no sanitation and worse. They live without sewage, clean water, streets, roads, electricity, or any kind of sanitation.

The New York Times reported them to be America 's new ' Third World ' inside our own country. Within 20 years, at their current growth rate, they expect 20 million residents of those colonias. (I've seen them personally in Texas and Arizona ; it's sickening beyond anything you can imagine.)

By enforcing our laws, we could repatriate them back to Mexico . We should invite 20 million aliens to go home, fix their own countries and/or make a better life in Mexico . We already invite a million people into our country legally more than all other countries combined annually. We cannot and must not allow anarchy at our borders, more anarchy within our borders and growing lawlessness at every level in our nation. It's time to stand up for our country, our culture, our civilization and our way of life.

Interesting Statistics!

Here are 14 reasons illegal aliens should vacate America, and I hope they are forwarded over and over again until they are read so many times that the reader gets sick of reading them:
1. $14 billion to $22 billion dollars are spent each year on welfare to illegal aliens.(that's Billion with a 'B') -http://tinyurl.com/zob77

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0604/01/ldt.01.html

10. The illegal aliens in the United States have a crime rate that's two and a half times that of white non-illegal aliens. In particular, their children, are going to make a huge additional crime problem in the US . http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0606/12/ldt.01.html

11. During the year 2005, there were 8 to 10 MILLION illegal aliens that crossed our southern border with as many as 19,500 illegal aliens from other terrorist countries. Over 10,000 of those were middle-eastern terrorists. Millions of pounds of drugs, cocaine, meth, heroine, crack, Guns, and marijuana crossed into the U.S.from the southern border. http://tinyurl.com/t9sht

12. The National Policy Institute, estimates that the total cost of mass deportation would be between $206 and $230 billion, or an average cost of between $41 and $46 billion annually over a five year period and nbsp; -http://www.nationalpolicyinstitute./.org/publications.php?b=deportation

13. In 2006, illegal aliens sent home $65 BILLION in remittances back to their countries of origin, to their families and friends. http://www.rense.com/general75/niht.htm

14. The dark side of illegal immigration: Nearly one million sex crimes are committed by illegal immigrants in the United States ! http://www.drdsk.com/articleshtml

Total cost a whopping $538.3 BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR!

Must See Movie Trailer

This is what Dennis Michael Lynch says about his own film:

"I am not a political guy. There is no political agenda fueling this film. Truth is, before making this film I never gave a single thought to illegal immigration. And yet, for some crazy reason, I went as far as risking my life to produce a non-partisan documentary about the hottest political topic in America. What's even crazier is why so many people won't want you to see my film.

"They Come to America is anything but politically correct. There is no slant to the left or right. I am not a racist, I don't hate Latinos, I am not funded by anyone. What I am is a film maker who has made a film that exposes the truth, and the truth is illegal immigration is an issue ignored by too many politicians. It is a crime that comes at a tremendous human and financial cost to both Americans and illegals immigrants."

Joe Legal vs. Jose Illegal

You have two families: "Joe Legal" and "José Illegal"..
Both families have two parents, two children, and live in California .

Joe Legal works in construction, has a Social Security Number and makes $25.00 per hour with taxes deducted.

José Illegal also works in construction, has NO Social Security Number, and gets paid $15.00 cash "under the table".

Ready? Now pay attention...

Joe Legal: $25.00 per hour x 40 hours = $1000.00 per week, or $52,000.00 per year. Now take 30% away for state and federal tax; Joe Legal now has
$31,231.00.

José Illegal: $15.00 per hour x 40 hours = $600.00 per week, or $31,200.00 per year. Jose Illegal pays no taxes. Jose Illegal now has
$31,200...00.

Joe Legal pays medical and dental insurance with limited coverage for his family at $600.00 per month, or $7,200.00 per year. Joe Legal now
has $24,031.00.

José Illegal has full medical and dental coverage through the state and local clinics at a cost of $0.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal makes too much money and is not eligible for food stamps or welfare. Joe Legal pays $500.00 per month for food, or $6,000.00 per
year. Joe Legal now has $18,031.00.

Joseé Illegal has no documented income and is eligible for food stamps and welfare. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays rent of $1,200.00 per month, or $14,400.00 per year. Joe Legal now has $9,631.00.

José Illegal receives a $500.00 per month federal rent subsidy. Jose Illegal pays out that $500.00 per month, or $6,000.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $ 31,200..00.

Joe Legal pays $200.00 per month, or $2,400.00 for insurance. Joe Legal now has $7,231.00.

José Illegal says, "We don't need no stinkin' insurance!" and still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal has to make his $7,231.00 stretch to pay utilities, gasoline, etc.

José Illegal has to make his $31,200.00 stretch to pay utilities, gasoline, and what he sends out of the country every month.

Joe Legal now works overtime on Saturdays or gets a part time job after work.

José Illegal has nights and weekends off to enjoy with his family.

Joe Legal's and José Illegal's children both attend the same school. Joe Legal pays for his children's lunches while José Illegal's children get a government sponsored lunch. José Illegal's children have an after school ESL program. Joe Legal's children go home.

Joe Legal and José Illegal both enjoy the same police and fire services, but Joe paid for them and José did not pay.

Do you get it, now?

If you vote for or support any politician that supports illegal aliens...

(You are) or (are You not) part of the problem!

It's way PAST time to take a stand for America and Americans!

What are you waiting for? Pass it on.

Border Burglery

Recently large demonstrations have taken place Across the country protesting the fact that Arizona Is addressing the issue of illegal immigration.

Certain people are angry that The US might protect its own Borders, might make it harder To sneak into this country and, Once here, to stay indefinitely. Let me see if I correctly understand The thinking behind these protests. Let's say I break into your house. Let's say that when you discover Me in your house, you insist that I leave. But I say, 'No! I like it here. It's better than my house. I've made all The beds and washed the Dishes and did the laundry And swept the floors. I've Done all the things you don't Like to do. I'm hard-working And honest (except for when I broke into your house).

According to the protesters: You are Required to let me stay in your house You are Required to feed me You are Required to add me to your family's insurance plan You are Required to Educate my kids You are Required to Provide other benefits to me & to my family (my husband will do all of your yard work because He is also hard-working and honest, except for that Breaking in part).

If you try to call the police or force me out, I will call my friends who will picket your House carrying signs that proclaim my RIGHT to be there.

It's only fair, after all, because you have A nicer house than I do, and I'm just Trying to better myself. I'm a hard-working And honest, person, except for well, You know, I did break into your house And what a deal it is for me!!!

I live in your house, contributing only a Fraction of the cost of my keep, and There is nothing you can do about it Without being accused of cold,

Uncaring, selfish, prejudiced, and Bigoted behavior.

Oh yeah, I DEMAND that you learn MY LANGUAGE!!! So you can Communicate with me.

Why can't people see how ridiculous This is? Only in America .

Charlie Daniels on Immigration

Charlie DamielsI don't know how everybody else feels about it, but to me

I think Hispanic people in this country, legally or illegally, made a huge public relations mistake with their recent demonstrations.

I don't blame anybody in the world for wanting to come to the United States of America, as it is a truly wonderful place.

But when the first thing you do when you set foot on American soil is illegal,

it is flat out wrong and I don't care how many lala land left heads come out

of the woodwork and start trying to give me sensitivity lessons.

I don't need sensitivity lessons, in fact I don't have any-thing against Mexicans!

I just have something against criminals and anybody who comes into this country

illegally is a criminal and if you don't believe it try coming into America

from a foreign country without a passport and see how far you get.

What disturbs me about the demonstrations is that it's tanta-mount to saying,

"I am going to come into your country even if it means breaking your laws

and there's nothing you can do about it."

It's an "in your face" action and speaking just for me,

I don't like it one little bit

and if there were a half dozen pairs of gonads in Washington

bigger than English peas, it wouldn't be happening.

Where are you, you bunch of lily livered, pantywaist, forked tongued,

sorry excuses for defenders of The Constitution?

Have you been drinking the water out of the Potomac again? And even if you pass a bill on immigration, it will probably be so pork laden and watered down that it won't mean anything anyway.

Besides, what good is another law going to do when you won't enforce the ones on the books now?

And what ever happened to the polls, guys?

I thought you folks were the quintessential finger wetters.

Well you sure ain't paying any attention to the polls this time because somewhere around eighty percent of Americans want some thing done about this mess, and mess it is and getting bigger everyday.

This is no longer a problem, it is a dilemma and headed for being a tragedy.

Do you honestly think what what happened in France with the Muslims can't happen here when the businesses who hire these people finally run out of jobs and a few million disillusioned
Hispanics take to the streets?

If you, Mr. President, Congressmen and Senators, knuckle under on this and refuse to do something meaningful, it means that you care nothing for the kind of country your children and grand-children will inherit.

But I guess that doesn't matter as long as you get re-elected. Shame on you. One of the big problems in America today is that if you have the nerve to say anything derogatory about any group of people (except Christians), you are going to be screamed at by the media and called a racist, a bigot and anything else they can think of to call you.

Well, I've been pounded by the media before and I'm still rockin' and rollin' and when it comes to speaking the truth, I fear not. And the truth is that the gutless, gonadless, milksop politicians are just about to sell out the United States of America because they don't have the intestinal fortitude to stand up to face reality.

And reality is that we would never allow any other group of people to have 12 million illegal in this country and turn around and say, "Oh it's ok, ya'll can stay here if you'll just allow us to slap your wrist."

And I know that some of you who read this column are saying "Well what's wrong with that?" I'll tell you what's wrong with it.

These people could be from Mars as far as we know.

We don't know who they are, where they are or what they're up to and the way the Congress is going, we're not going to.

Does this make sense? Labor force you say?

We already subsidize corporate agriculture as it is.

Must we subsidize their labor as well? If these people were from Haiti, would we be so fast to turn a blind eye to them or if they were from Somalia or Afghanistan? I think not.

All the media shows us are pictures of hard working Hispanics who have crossed the border just to try to better their life. They don't show you pictures of the Feds rounding up members of MS 13,
the violent gang who came across the same way the decent folks did.

They don't tell you about the living conditions of the Mexican illegal that some fat cat hired to pick his crop.

I want to make two predictions:

No. 1:

This situation is going to grow and fester until it erupts in violence on our streets while the wimps in Washington drag their toes in the dirt and try to figure how many tons of political hay they can make to the acre.

No 2:

Somebody is going to cross that border with some kind of weapon of mass destruction and set it off in a major American city after which there will be a backlash such as this country has never experienced and the Capitol building in Washington will probably tilt as Congressmen and Senators rush to the other side of the issue.

I don't know about you but I would love to see just one major politician stand up and say, "I don't care who I make mad and I don't care how many votes I lose.

This is a desperate situation and I'm going to lead the fight to get it straightened out." I don't blame anybody for wanting to come to America,

but if you don't respect our immigration laws, why should you respect any others? And by the way, this is America and our flag has stars and stripes.

Please get that other one out of my face.

God Bless America

California Dreamin'

Come to America!

The Land of the Free and Home of the Mexican

United States of AmericaBack in the day, when people wanted to start a new life by coming to the United States, they followed a procedure. They came to Ellis Island and stood in line to be processed into this country. They found a job and learned the language. It didn't matter where they came from, they did whatever it took to become a United States Citizen. They didn't demand that everyone else acclimate to them, they worked hard to become legal citizens of this country, their new country; to acclimate to their new home.

They did not sneak across the boarder, breaking the law of the land they wanted to call their own. They did not beg for hand-outs from the government, because they knew they wouldn't get any and they had an honest work ethic. They found work, worked hard and played by the rules.

Back then we did not have massive corporations sending our manufacturing jobs over seas, making it difficult to find work, nor did we have businesses willing to pay cash under the table to migrant workers without documentation either. This was a land of opportunity for all Americans. Now it has become the land of opportunity for illegals, not American citizens.

Those of us who were born here can't afford a decent education, and can't find work because all of the jobs that are left are being handed to non-citizens of this country in the name of corporate profits. In this land of opportunity and free enterprise, Capitalism has become nothing more than a system of the rich getting richer off of the labor of illegal immigrants, while the American citizen goes hungry looking for work. You have to know that things are bad, when illegals start going home.

It chaps my ass that I was born in this country, but I have no health care, I can't find a job, living below the poverty level, I do not qualify for food stamps, but anyone who sneaks across the boarder can get those things without question. The government will even house them for free, while I worry about my mortgage payment each month.

The solution to the problem is pretty clear; even I can see it... Enforce immigration laws and do not allow corporations to hire illegals, nor send jobs over seas. These days, you'd be hard pressed to find a product here that was made here. My son once asked me if everything was made in China, after looking over his toys. I say, if the Chinese want to sell their stuff here, make them build it here, using our native workforce.

To those who whine and complain about this country, I say this: It is still the best place to live, or why would so many people risk their lives to come here illegally. If you don't like the way this country is run, you have two choices:
1) Stand up and be heard.
2) Go live some place else.

What do we American's have to do to be treated better than we are? Must we become Mexican Nationals and sneak back here?

I mean really... We coddle these people, sending out every piece of paper generated by the government in five different languages, so no one has to learn OUR language, denying American's jobs because they are not bilingual. Spanish was an elective in the American high school I graduated from; I never knew that not taking that class would keep me from getting a job in this country. (I took French.)

When was the last time anyone visited a jail? They are full of Mexicans. Our jails, particularly in the southwestern United States are filled with non-English speaking people. The best part is that they get fed and housed while the government tries to find translators for them to process them through our criminal justice system. Either way, illegals get what they're after, whether they are caught or not. They get government services, or they get put up in one of our jails, but regardless, they are fed and sheltered.

While making an appearance in traffic court, I was amazed to see seven Mexican men in jail jumpers, being told that they could not have a hearing that day because there were no translators available, so the bailiff was instructed to take them back to the jail. Shouldn't judges be required to speak Spanish? Who but a judge would be the perfect person to explain the proceedings to the defendant?

There is something fundamentally wrong when the only job creation in an area is in linguistics. The only way to get a job is to speak another language and become a translator for the court, so that illegals can get a fair hearing? What if you were to claim that you don't speak English if you're ever arrested. Hey, there is a free meal and a bed in it for ya.

I am all for the person who genuinely wants to better their life by coming to America; I am not into those who would do it by breaking the law straight from the get-go, and refusing to learn the language. I am an American tax payer and I have a problem with illegals who are healthier and eat better than I do.

I was born here, I speak English and I am unemployed. Do I have a right to be angry? I think so.

What part of illegal don't people understand. But to tell the truth, if I were in their situation, I would do the same.

How are our immigration laws unjust? If I were to illegally enter any other country on this planet, I'd either be jailed or shot. So whose laws are unjust? The Mexican army would throw me in prison forever if I sneaked into Mexico.

I never said I don't care; I said I am not responsible for the acts of my ancestors. I am all for bashing corporate America for sending jobs overseas. I am also against people entering my country against the law, showing blatant disregard for those laws and sucking off the government tit, which is funded by my tax dollars. I am against the millions of dollars spent so that those who refuse to learn the language of this country can read their welfare papers. And I am against the fact that I cannot get a job that I am otherwise qualified for because I do not speak Spanish. I can do nothing about the sins of my ancestors, but I can speak out against illegal aliens.

Yes, By saying those types of comments you are an idiot and ignorant. You have no idea what it is like living in a third world country. I am married to an illegal immigrant. And i am a US citizen, Do you know that if you enter illegally you have to leave for a min. of 10 Years. We have a daughter. He had no choice but to come illegally. There is no way to survive in a 3rd world country where the highest grade level completed is the 3rd grade. Then there is no jobs for money and you end up on the street. No running water, No food. So unless you know what it is like to goto bed hungry you should shut you're mouth. Learning english is not that big of a deal. When you are hungry. They cross for a better life and to not starve to death. My husband came because he started working at 7 years old and he only made 3 dollers a week which doesnt cover food at all. He came so he wouldnt be in a gang

You claim that the other person is igorant, you are married to an ILLEGAL ALIEN, , says you. Once you mqrried the ILLEGAL ALIEN, they are now legal citizens. So, looks like your the ignorant one.

"I am an American citizen. I am not responsible for the sins of my ancestors, I live here now, not centuries ago. I was born in the 20th century. I am not proud of what my ancestors have done to the natives of this land, but I had nothing to do with it. I can however, speak out against what foreign nationals would do to this country now."

If you don't care what has been done (and is being done) by Proud Americans to natives of this land and citizens of other countries including Mexico, then why should the natives, their descendants and Mexicans affected by corrupt US-Corporate policies care about you and your unjust immigration laws?

Bottom line is, most of those people reading this post are the 98%'ers in this country, just trying to make a go of it, raise a family, etc. The 98%ers that are getting screwed by corporate America.. Rich get richer, middle class become poor, poor get poorer.

If you want to be productive, look at the root cause of what drives immigration. Corporate interests, cheap labor, bad trade policies, etc. It's time to create a humane policy towards those that have long been exploited by these factors.

solution is simple baby's born here are american if moms are illegal you arrest them and send them back but the baby did nothing wrong and was born in the free world and is american change that we go backwards as Americans there are enough family's wanting to adopt baby's out there in the USA. 2 you arrest all Americans who hire Illegals and put them in jail. 3 you increase border patrol. and 4 you allow the good people of mexico who want to enter properly the right to and start there citizen ship process. that would be reform.
  • TrinaSonnenberg May 27, 2010 @ 10:48 am | delete
I agree with everything but the baby part. The baby entered into this country illegally by virtue of its mother. You can't separate the two, so they both need to go back. There was a time when people got married to become legal, now they just get pregnant. That adds to the over-population of this country.
  • CastleRoy May 27, 2010 @ 11:35 am | delete
how did the baby make the choice to break the law that is like saying every baby born to a criminal in the usa should be in jail with the criminal you want bays in our prison system being abused I and my sister where once in foster care my sister retarded because her real mom was a druggie and put in jail I and she where adopted as babys and had a good life instead you are saying her mom broke the law and my sister should had instead been kept in prison with her even though she didn't break a law you think children of this nation should be in prison? the baby's mother broke a law like any criminal she should be punished and baby removed from her care baby is a citizen unless you think all baby's born to criminals should be in jail. our usa law states born in USA you are citizen and I will not Tell that soldier hero returning from Iraq he needs to go back to his country because his mom was illegal because thats what would happen if changed the law i will let you do that. your argument originally was moms coming here having baby's so moms could stay now you have changed it when I said moms should be arrested and sent back you still say baby has no right to be here when born on USA soil which is the law of our land. wow babys breaking laws how amazing is that. and i must say if the mothers would sacrifice loosing that child for ever then things must be pretty bad where she is what a hero of a woman to want her baby to have food and a better life. just as you and I want for our kids here in the usa. by the way I and my sister are born citizens and my husband works 65 hours a week to keep us feed and a roof over our heads last night he worked from 4 in the afternoon to 5.30 this morning he surprised me with dunkin dohnuts he will be getting up at noon to leave for work at 3 and will be home at 4 in the morning we all are suffering. this has been a good back and forth and I want you to know I am just trying to make points not be mean I care a lot for all people I am Christian and I always say there are 2 sides that can be argues without name calling or guns and I know you agree because your writings display you are a wonderful person this country is wonderful because we can debate and are allowed our own thoughts feeling and words thanks for your kindness I hope others see it in both of us hugs . so it is night for me because i waited up for my husband lol good night (good morning have a good day..
  • TrinaSonnenberg May 27, 2010 @ 5:51 pm | delete
I'll say it again. People who get pregnant to stay in this country should be sent back with the baby they gave birth to. The two can't be separated, and the baby is illegal because the mother was illegal when she gave birth to it. Those who serve in our military are citizens, therefore, that argument is moot.

The fact is that our prisons and our country as a whole are over populated by illegal immigrants, criminals or otherwise. More people who sneak into this country do so because they are fleeing criminal pasts in their own country, and terrorists cross our southern borders all of the time. This must stop. Over population is killing this nation. We have plenty of our own people who abide by the law, we don't need foreign criminals taking jobs and other resources from our citizens. Having babies to stay here is illegal and immoral. America doesn't need any more people and we certainly don't need more criminals. Ever heard of MS 13? They are the majority of our prison population and they all are illegal immigrants or children of them. They are not progressive members of society. They are criminals. We don't need 'em and they snuck into this country to commit crimes. That's why they fill our prisons.

I am all for corporations being punished for giving away American jobs. See my lens on Made is the U.S.A. However, it isn't just corporations. American homeowners would rather pay any illegal to fix their home than an American professional. Yes, the housing market trashed contractor's businesses, but that was only a part of it. The rich and famous in Telluride, 65 miles east of here, pay Mexicans to build for them so they can save some money on their million dollar homes. Traffic court was jammed with Mexicans in orange jumpers when I was there with my son. They all got put back in jail because no one could translate the proceedings for them. They were all there for real criminal offenses, not traffic violations, but since no one could speak Spanish, they got postponed hearings, and were housed and fed until they could get a translator. Americans are not afforded the luxury of a translator in Mexico. I can't get a job because I don't speak Spanish, but if anyone should be required to speak Spanish it should be a judge who sees Mexicans more often than Americans in their court. Prosecute Corporations, but what about the others who hire illegals to save a buck? What are you going to do with them?

It is not against the law to discriminate for hiring, or not hiring someone because of their language skills. It is not considered discriminatory, if it is part of the job description that an applicant speak Spanish. I've looked into it.

Yup the American Indians sure did suffer when all the immigrants came here from Europe I am ashamed of my white ancestors. Indian men women children and babies burned alive, land stolen, water rights in Arizona and other places stolen from the Indians. White people brining diseases like small pox, also war and enslaving blacks who where the real people who with sweat blisters and lives built this country in the beginning yet how awful whites take credit. I am sure glad to be different from them i treat all man equal no matter color or language especially now that white is not superior in this county any longer if you put all the other races into one group. Oh yup guess many are willing to pay 7 dollars for 2 tomatoes and 20 for chicken because we all know if Americans did the jobs the immigrants do picking food and breaking up chickens they wouldn't do it for 3 bucks an hour rather 8 to 10 dollars an hour maybe more. bloody blistered hands to an american is worth well more than 3 dollars!! plus these Americans would need insurance so double the cost of food from my pocket is ok just less on the table for my family. M fox star from family ties and back to the future illegal immigrant originally from Canada he is doing great huh all the us citizens sneaking over into Canada and mexico murders child molesters sad now the crimes are now on there country's backs by our american criminals seeking refuge in hiding.I also Found a great song by Johny Cash called Ira Hayes. Anyway This sure is a hot topic always 2 sides though reform should have working papers for the awful jobs Americans wont do as a part of reform or as many economists say our country will collapse with extremely high priced food, clothing and more. middle class america for sure will never exist again they will all be poor and struggling just to eat.. and what are People saying baby's born on US soil not citizens then none of us are if you go back far enough only the Indians and some blacks would own this land, and why is it that our ancestors could pull into NY waters and start the citizenship process right away and Mexicans have to wait years to be approved why is it illegal for a Mexican kid with a ticket with name on his jacket is not a citizen right away like the children that came from Europe into NY why wasn't it called a crime then but the same act is a crime now? INTERESTING great lens for one side of the debate. 5 stars
  • TrinaSonnenberg May 26, 2010 @ 4:19 pm | delete
Right now, I don't think there is a job out there that an American wouldn't do. Everybody is hungry. Coming into this country without going through the proper immigration channels has always been illegal. Babies born to illegal immigrants should be just as illegal as their mother is. It doesn't matter if you come from Canada or Mexico, if you don't do it right you should have to go back where you came from. Michael J. Fox became a naturalized citizen before he became a star. He has what is known as duel citizenship. Rich people can afford to do that too, and many do so that they can hide money from the tax man.
  • CastleRoy May 26, 2010 @ 7:02 pm | delete
So then you are saying only the american Indian is legal and that is what I am saying.
because to go back in time is good you are saying! because going back a little ways reversing the fact if born on US soil you are citizen should be changed! funny how many of these illegal immigrant baby's born on american soil have become soldiers in our army fighting for this country and maybe saving some of our own children's lives over seas sad how those kids born on this soil soldiers who have died fighting for the USA dont matter to some especially this memorial day coming.

    anyway
so how far back in time do we go? I would like to at least go back in time enough so Mexicans can apply and become citizens in days like those who pulled into Ellis Island in New York Harbor the gateway for millions of immigrants to the United States as the site of the nation's busiest immigration station from 1892 to 1954 then todays Mexicans could have all been Americans in days instead of needing today to wait years which is unfair maybe others think we should go back to a day where there where slaves. so how far should we go back changing things?

God created us all and wants us to love all sad how we cant seem to do that.
if only we where all blind and couldn't see skin color if only we all had one voice not to recognize but to bad we are all born different colors have different voices all special to god as individuals in hopes we will help and love each other.maybe my feelings are strong because my family is mixed race and religion do to us kids being adopted.but i am proud of who I am.

funny how Americans cant blame themselves. immigration issues have been around for many many years but suddenly because we over spent and are in recession it is immigration fault lolololol The number one call to banks "how can I be over drawn"? I have never seen a person fill out debit card amount they spent while in store line in a check book, to lazy I guess! how many spend money they dont have with credit cards over holidays how many took out bad house loans I am stuck with house half its value do to 3 foreclosed homes on my street. oh and they where irresponsible white folk and yeah i almost hate them but no I will blame the deregulated banks. the world is right america is just a bunch of over spending want to be better than my neighbor people. a Christmas gift could be dinner a doll in a stocking and spending time with family not 50 gifts as most trees seem to have we as Americans could help one another with that money we spend on gifts supporting the out of work! WE so proud to be american yet not helping each other doesn't make scence to me.Instead we will blame immigrants so we can stay selfish. if you are reading this you have a computer pretty well off you are!!! your kid might be playing a video game when I was that age I was playing in the yard. point we can live without these toys and hahaha Mexicans the money they make is for food always has been maybe we could sell that extra computer or tv or car and help the american in need and stop crying because ya know what have one computer, love, faith, children, a sandwich and water, and a roof and you are all set you are rich and should be smiling today. god bless all our american soldiers Mexican american Muslim american Asian american African american Caucasian american and any I missed I love you all thank you for fighting for your country for us and god bless america.

Everyone processed through Ellis Island took the time to stand in line, fill out the paperwork, learn the language and the history of our nation, then they were granted citizenship. Some of those immigrants were from Mexico. Look, I don't have a problem with people who want to play by the rules, and are interested in becoming a citizsen of this nation. I do have a problem with those who would break our laws coming here, and those who'd have children here just so they can keep from being deported for breaking immigration law. Break Mexican immigration law and you could be shot. I'm saying, send them home if they broke the law to get here. I was born here of parents who were born here, and so on and so forth. My ancestors came here for various parts of Europe, they were processed through immigration, they learned to speak English and they fought in our wars, defending this country. I don't appreciate the fact that a Mexican National stands a better chance at getting a job in this country than I do and I was born and educated here. I speak the language and know the history and have pledged allegiance to my flag hundreds of times.I am not proud of everything that my race has done to those of other races either, but I am not the one who committed those sins. I can't change history. I can have a voice about the future. I am an American Citizen and this is my home. If you want to come here, then assimilate. Come here as a law abiding citizen applicant like you're supposed to. We may not shoot you for sneaking across the border, but we will send you home. That should be the message.
  • CastleRoy May 26, 2010 @ 9:56 pm | delete
I agree with everything you are saying accept chances are it will take years for a Mexican these days to become a citizen and many do know our language already and are suffering so poor. and then also born on US soil means american I understand your point but we have several already fighting in our army so how do you handle that I mean do we dig up Arlington cemetery and send there bodys back to mexico and when the 20 year old comes home from war with out his arms and saved 10 fellow soldiers maybe one of your family members do we say to him when he gets off the plane sorry you need to go back to mexico because your mom was an illegal and you do not get any army benefits we dont care you are a hero!! I am saying there are just as many learning the language waiting years to come here not allowed to there are many of those baby's born on US soil that are now fighting in our war as proud Americans the effects of what you are saying will affect many good folk as well the bad ones. that is why reform would need to be handled and done well. you just wrote a book and such I guess I didn't realize you are looking to rip heads of chickens with your bare hands for a couple bucks an hour I will send you some money hon if you need it just let me know ok. I will start a fond raising because you and as I have read your family are wonderful let me know how I can help ok I am sorry I didn't know you where looking to do that job. and get paid so little. have you used all the american programs that can help you like welfare the extended unemployment and such. I heard some windmill factory's will be opening they get paid well and only Americans can do it. maybe you can look into those jobs. I heard of this women who needed to make money for her house payment she had a bake sale and now has her own business doing very very well you could give that a try. what great in america are freinds and family willing to help putting heads together for ideas. maybe if we cared for our own homeless did you know that if you live in a tent you cant use that as a home address or a PO box as one if those rules where changed many Americans could get jobs easier why dont we work and change those laws. many Americans now in tent cities have no address so cant get a job sad. all because of our laws. if those laws changed they could get great jobs instead. well let me know if I can help you out at all.
  • TrinaSonnenberg May 27, 2010 @ 9:17 am | delete
If it is that important to them, what difference does it make how long it takes? I'm not trying to rip the heads off chickens; I don't know where that came from. I am just a citiezen of this country who has a hard time with the fact that I was born here, and no I can't get any help from the government, because being that I have an income of any kind, I make too much money to qualify for help, and I can't get a job around here because I don't speak Spanish. I am an American, why the Hell do I need to speak Spanish to get a job that I am otherwise completely qualified for?

Obviously, if someone enlists in the U.S. Military, they are already considered a citizen. So if they die fighting for this country, I'd say their citizenship is a moot point.
My husband is a building contractor, who has to compete with low wages offered to Mexicans. He is the best at what he does, and everyone knows it, but they'd rather pay a Mexican, who doesn't know squat, dirt wages for the job. That Mexican does not pay taxes, but we do; that Mexican qualifies for government services, but we don't. So yes, I have a problem with illegal immigrants. They take food from the mouths of my kids.
  • CastleRoy May 27, 2010 @ 10:54 am | delete
the Americans who are hiring them are the ones taking food from the mouths of your kids and deserve prison time the answer is not to go backwards as american people and say a baby born here isn't american.
so you arrest and send mom back to her country if she decides not to take the baby she then has abandoned him it is placed for adoption many Americans want a new born. 2 you increase border patrol alot and 3 you let the good people in to start the process of citizenship. taking as long as it did for our ancestors is a fair time the worlds number one and 2 most spoken languages are English and Spanish i got a higher paying job once because I knew sign language. but in this country you can file discrimination and I would if I where you because you are being discriminated against. the reason i said chickens earlier because you said the word I saying I should be able to find a job and illegals not steel them you used I. and most jobs these illegals do are jobs we do not want to do or in the past refused to do for such low pay. but again you stop that by arresting Americans who hire illegals and you certainly have a discrimination suit. My cousin is a contractor he has little work because no one can afford houses or businesses being built that is the number one reason in polls contractors are out of work. all the foreclosed homes have ruined the contracting business my cousins used to make a million or 2 a year here in new england but now with all the foreclosures and bank stuff they are fix it men for awhile i suppose. and I hate that rr the foreclosure and banks stuff need addressing.
  • Combat Veteran Aug 17, 2011 @ 2:56 am | delete
I would say it's much more the blame of the people hiring than the people working. If living conditions became unbearable for you and your kids with few options, would you love them enough to go to a place where you could work hard to put food in their mouths?
  • bethd821 May 24, 2010 @ 7:51 pm | delete
Excellently stated by you and Charlie Daniels. My sentiments exactly. I am sick and tired of having to push 1 to hear a phone call in English! I thought it was the official language of the US. Well done!
  • Combat Veteran Aug 17, 2011 @ 3:08 am | delete
This is why relatively few people in the U.S. are multi-lingual. We have become very lazy. My great grandparents knew 3 languages when they came here. Most immigrants from Mexico (whether illegal or not) know Spanish and English. Most Chinese are learning English. Most Europeans know multiple language. What do we do? We look for reasons to stay intellectually lazy and not put forth any effort to learn a new language. That's what is behind all this. It has nothing to do with the HUGE inconvenience of having to press "1" on a telephone (oh my, what torture). It's really just an unconscious fear of not being smart enough to learn a new language. That's sad really because you actually are smart enough to learn a new language. You're just been conditioned to be intellectually lazy when it comes to language.

This is a hot topic for me because a buddy of mine in Iraq who saved the lives of our WHOLE PLATOON more than once. He was trying to make a better life for his family and risked his life for this country to do so. What happened to him? He was deported after he finished 3 tours after a gossipy wife of a soldier inadvertendly got him deported because she couldn't keep her mouth shut for a hero! And yes, he's a hero in ways that neither the husband of the author of this lens, nor I, will ever be.
  • Combat Veteran Aug 17, 2011 @ 3:28 am | delete
By the way, English is technically the "National" language of the U.S. (among other examples, currency printed in English - unless Latin somehow bothers you too). It is not the "official" language simply because that causes a lot more problems than it solves. Besides, there is already plenty of incentive to learn English. English is already considered by the world to be the international business language. Yet U.S. business negotiators who don't know a language beyond English are putting themselves at a great disadvantage. The only thing making English the "official" language would do is to hurt our children by making them think there is no value in learning other languages.

It's that kind of thinking that causes us to be ranked so much lower in education than we should be compared to other countries. When you don't live near the borders of other countries with other spoken languages, that is a disadvantage. We need to compensate for that disadvantage if the U.S. is going to continue to compete in the world. Stupidly focusing on ways to keep ourselves ignorant in any way possible (e.g. spending so much effort to make English "official" rather than spending a little effort to learn a second language) is a good way to allow China to usurp us in every way, just because we were afraid of the hardest work there is - learning.
