Using Feng Shui in the Kitchen
Since I have been keeping house (which has been many years) the one place in my home that always seems too remain balanced with good energy is the flow of the energy in my kitchen. I love kitchen gadgets and I am a pack rat (did I just say that?)! But somehow, some way I always keep my kitchen flowing with a warm gentle energy.
One of many things I do is hang a lot of wind chimes throughout my home, especially in the kitchen. And I love dragonflies so I have them fluttering throughout my kitchen as well. But before I get into too much here let me just say that doing Feng Shui is easy, does not have to be expensive and helps with the health, prosperity, and wealth in your home especially the kitchen. To begin, start with one thing at a time.

Books on Feng Shui
Okay, let's start with basic things
The Stove:The stove is considered to be a source of good luck and prosperity. If you hang a small mirror above your stove you will double its power to bring you good fortune.
I believe this, and I have done it in the past. As of yet I currently do not have a mirror hanging above my stove, but I plan on hanging one there during my "Spring Cleaning" adventure! I am not sure about anywhere else but here we have a store called "The Dollar Store" everything in there is a dollar or less. They have some really cute little mirrors that can be used for this purpose. If you can try to use an octagon shaped mirror.
-Always keep your stove cleaned and running properly. The stove is also connected to health.
-Try to use your stove every day. Okay, so what if you do not cook every day? Heat water for a cup of tea, boil some citrus peels and fill your kitchen with the wonderful scent. The objective is to always use it at least for a couple minutes every day so your good fortune is not limited.
The Kitchen:
-Try to incorporate "Green" in your color scheme. I have NO problem with this one. I have always had some kind of green in all of my kitchens. I have always used green as a health element because green is very healing. Today we have so many different shades of green to use. I use a touch of sage green in my bedroom, but in my kitchen I use forest green and blue. Back a ton of years ago when I first started keeping house, the colors for the kitchen was harvest gold and avocado green. Oops did I just give my age away?? So needless to say I do not like avocado green that much and leaned more towards the harvest gold with dark green pot holders and towels.
With Feng Shui-green is symbolic and links the kitchen with health because green is the color of vegetable and plants and is a positive association with nutrition.
-Mist your kitchen with a citrus scent. I strongly suggest that you get a few very inexpensive spray bottles, fill them with distilled water and add a few drops of citrus scent to it. You can use scents such as orange, lemon, grapefruit or limes. I recently purchased some organic citrus/ginger cleaner from Chartreuse that I am excited to clean my walls with. Part Two
-Try your best to keep your kitchen clutter free. I know this can be hard to do, but once you get it organized, you will be amazed how easily it can remain that way. Last year, I finally took the time and organized my kitchen cabinets. I found these little shelf organizers at a local kitchen store on sale! At that time I only purchased two because I wanted to make sure I would use them. BEST thing I ever did. It is this little shelf extender that has three steps on it. It allows you to have three rows of can goods on one shelf. Sounds neat doesn't it. To this day I nit-pick about making sure all of my labels stay straight and as I use the can goods I will write them on my grocery list to be replaced.-By using a square table you increase stability in your household
-Try to choose black appliances to encourage prosperity. In China, black is considered the color of wealth, according to Skye Alexander. I was pretty lucky in this area because when we purchased our home, they replaced the old refrigerator with a new Black one. Ugg, it is hard to keep the finger prints off of it though.
-Tie a red ribbon around your faucet for good luck. This helps to keep chi from slipping away down the drain. You can also place a small hanging plant or a "Lucky Bamboo" place by the facet and this will also help to stop chi from slipping away down the drain.
-Keep your counters free of clutter. I have a friend who refuses to set anything out on her kitchen counters. I do not know how to stop that in my kitchen. I have stuff on my counters but I do not believe it is clutter. So here, use your own judgment
-By using a round table in your kitchen you are encouraging family harmony
-Place round knobs on your kitchen drawers. (I have those crystal ones) Straight lines and sharp angles in the knobs can provoke stress. The same applies to the knobs on your bedroom drawers, please see my Bedroom Feng Shui Bedroom Feng Shui
-Keep your refrigerator cleaned out. Try to set a schedule to at least clean out your fridge once a week. Spoil food symbolizes waste and old unwanted stuff.
Feng Shui Items
Part Three
-Clean your kitchen windows to promote good health. Remember in Feng Shui, the windows symbolize the eyes. Dirty windows cloud your ability to see clearly and may cause confusion about health matters.-Put something "Red" in your kitchen for good luck. I am not a big fan of the color red. But above my refrigerator I have a Crystal hanging from a red cord with a red tassel that has a butterfly and a rose plague on it.
- By adding some gold in the kitchen also helps to increase wealth. The frame of the butterfly rose plaque I mentioned above is in a gold wire frame. Also my husband purchased me a gold framed mirror and etched some dragonflies on it which is also hanging in my kitchen. The Dollar Store I mentioned always has these cute little pictures in gold frames and I use them a lot in my Décor. My husband always tells me that I have a hang up with seeing a bare wall, so I always have to put something on it. I think that is the truth (laughs)
-Placing a hanging plant over your facet will also help to prevent financial losses. I believe again, if you cannot place a hanging plant over the sink, place a "Lucky Bamboo" behind the facet-to help with the same thing.
-Try to place fresh flowers on your kitchen table or on the counter to help symbolize love and life. Fresh flowers promote positive feelings among family members. Be sure to replace them once they begin to die off. I am not sure if everyone does this or not, but when I purchase fresh flowers I cut the stems at an angle before placing them in the water. I will change the water every two days and again cut a little off of the stem each time I change the water. I suppose I just try to get my flowers to last as long as they can.
-Setting up a shrine and/or altar in your kitchen is an excellent thing to do to promote the energies of the elements. Usually this is done to attract blessings. Now I do not have a shrine set up in my kitchen, but I consider the whole kitchen to be a shrine. A very dear friend of mine in England that consider to be a sister sent me a "Welsh Love Spoon" which hangs on my wall, along with a Cerridwen Plague and as I mentioned earlier a lot of dragonflies. I also have a green "Witches Ball" hanging on the side of my kitchen window which symbolizes protection. With it being green it also symbolizes health and prosperity.

- I've never really used feng shui but your tips and advice are simple to follow. Love the idea of the wind chimes. I use them outside but hadn't considered them for inside. Blessed.

- Thanks renee. I have several windchimes hanging in several rooms. I noticed this week while I was doing some Spring cleaning. I just love the different sounds they make. Also, they help to keep the energy flowing through your home.

- My kitchen is definitely not Kitchen Feng Shui. It is more like a kitchen disaster right now. Thanks for the reminder to wash my windows. I now have it on my long list of things to do. Lensrolling to Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady which is my lens about the book that inspired my kitchen.
