Fenway Bleachers Seats

Fenway Park in Boston, is the much beloved home of the Boston Red Sox. This fabled venue is the oldest and the smallest ballparks in Major League baseball, but it's definitely a fan favorite. When outside forces in the city of Boston were talking about tearing Fenway Park down a few years ago, Red Sox Nation rose up and saved the park from the wrecking ball by sheer force of will and determination to save their beloved ball park. When you visit Fenway for the first time, and walk through the now expanded concourse there is a tangible feeling of the history and the tradition of the place. You get the feeling that you are walking in the footsteps of fans that have filled this hallowed stadium for the past 90 years, and you can feel the excitement in the air as the players go through batting practice that maybe this year the Red Sox will go all the way once again. Fenway Park is small, but it's also a bit more intimate because the seats are closer to the action. There are many great places to sit and get the best views of the game, but they cost a pretty penny. The Fenway bleacher seats behind the bullpens provide a great view of the game, but do not have a shelter over head, so they get a lot of sun exposure. The bleacher seats have the reputation of housing the rowdiest of the fans, so bear this in mind when selecting your seats. On the plus side, later in the game when everyone is singing Sweet Caroline, you have a bunch of very enthusiastic fans and possible new friends singing along with you. Perhaps the most famous of the Fenway bleacher seats, which, by the way are no longer actual bleachers, but individual seats, is the fabled, "Lone Red Seat. " Made famous as the spot where Ted Williams' 502 foot home run landed on June 9, 1946, the seat was painted red to commemorate the longest home run ever hit inside of Fenway Park. The 'Red Seat' is located in section 42, row 37, seat 21. After home games many fans scurry over to get their picture taken in the red seat so that they can take home a bit of the history and mystique of Boston's Fenway Park. Joseph A. Boucher, who was napping beneath his large, straw hat in his seat at the time the ball hit his head was quoted as saying, "How far away must one sit to be safe in this park? I didn't even get the ball. They say it bounced a dozen rows higher, but after it hit my head, I was no longer interested. I couldn't see the ball. Nobody could. The sun was right in our eyes. All we could do was duck. I'm glad I did not stand up. " In 2008 during a renovation that included replacing and weatherproofing the concrete below the bleacher seats, the old seats in that section were removed and sold off- all except for the famous red seat. The new seats are wider and more comfortable than the old, tight wooded seats were. The Lone Red Chair

Why is there a single red bleacher seat in Fenway Park? The red bleacher seat (section 42 Row 37 Seat 21) marks the spot where Ted Williams hit the longest home run (502 feet) in Fenway history.

The ball landed on Joe Boucher, a 56 year old construction engineer from Albany, New York deflecting off his straw hat into the crowd.

"I didn't even get the ball! "

Red Sox in the World Series

Think the Sox will make it this year?

Every year, the Fenway Fanatics think "This will be the year". They were right in '04 and '07. What about '12? Will they do it this season? Or will they break our hearts?

What are the Red Sox chances of making it to the World Series this season?

100 % - they're taking it all the way baby!

Maggie says:

Yes they will

ronberry says:

I have no doubt - All the way baby! Just keep Carl Crawford out of the lineup and Lackey off the mound

50% - if they have another meltdown, maybe less!

alexanderj says:

I dont know enough about their form being here in the UK so I have to go 50%

mihgasper says:

50 percents sounds more likely...

JaguarJulie says:

Oh gosh, I don't follow the World Series, like I should. I'm going on out a limb and saying 50% or less.

ohcaroline says:

Only the days of summer can adequately answer this one!

Are you going to a game this season?

If you've got plans to take in a Sox game this season then we'd like to hear about it. Are you going to support our Beantown Boys or catch the games on TV? Or maybe you're a Yankees fan and wouldn't step foot in Fenway Park if the tickets were free! You don't need to be a Squidoo member to vote.

Will you go to a game this season, watch the Sox on TV or not at all

Followed the Red Sox as a kid when Yaz won the triple crown.
I saw a tee shirt worn by a Boston fan a few years back, "My Favorite Team? Anyone who beats the Yankees!"
Enjoyed your lens. Keep the green wall standing!

I never knew what bleachers were until Taylor Swift sang about them in You Belong To me! I reckon here in the UK we'd call them benches?

Hi alexanderj - part of the reason they're called bleachers is because, during day games, the sun beats down on that part of the ballpark - "bleaching" the fans.
