There are several reasons why a ferret cage is important to own. The main reason to procure a ferret cage is because ferrets are extremely curious and playful creatures and they should not, under any circumstances be left unsupervised in the house as their curiosity can lead them to crawl into dark spaces and become stuck. It is assumed by most new ferret owners that because a ferret can be an indoor pet that it is just like owning a cat, this is unfortunately not the case because ferrets can be extremely destructive animals. A ferret does not mean to be destructive and they do not do it because they want to annoy you, they are destructive because they are curious and have poor eye sight. The ferret was near the back of the queue when God was handing out eyesight, they were right next to the bats! Ferrets navigate their terrain by using their amazing sense of smell and their fantastic hearing. The fact that a ferret has poor eyesight means that these curious little animals will smell, touch and taste anything that they stumble across including funiture, electrical wires and anything that they find on the floor. This means that your ferret if left unsupervised will chew on or scratch anything it can get its paws on and because they have sharp teeth and claws this will result in some pretty expensive damages. Not only can an unsupervised ferret charge through your house like a furry wrecking ball causeing damage to your property they can also cause damage to themselves in a variety of different ways. An unsupervised ferret could chew through electrical cables and can shock itself, it could find loose change on the floor and decide to eat it, it could eat a variety of small metal and plastic items that it finds around your home, which could end up causing it to have a very upset stomache. If your ferret managed to get into your cupboards it could end up ingesting bleach and poisons that could harm the ferret. For this reason giving your ferret a place to play safely is a definite must, a ferret cage will keep an unsupervised ferret out of trouble.
Another reason for owning a ferret cage is that ferrets are quite terretorial animals and they like to have a warm, safe place to sleep and to run to when they are frightened, upset or annoyed. Having their own space will keep your ferret happy and will keep him healthy.

There is a massive choice of ferret cages out there on the market and picking the right one can be difficult. As a ferret owner you will want a strong cage that can withstand relentless playing and hyperactivity from your ferret as well as being a good size for your ferret to excercise in. The main problem with an indoor ferret cage (which is what most ferret owners will wish to procure) is that they take up space in your home. If you want an indoor ferret cage then you may wish to get one that looks asthetically pleasing as well as being a funtional sanctuary for your ferret.
When choosing a ferret cage it is important to ensure that your home has enough space for the cage. The size of the cage is an important factor when choosing a ferret cage, the cage cannot be too small or the ferret will not have enough room to frolic and play and this can cause the ferret to become listless and depressed. The ferret cage can be quite expensive, but if you are serious about adopting a ferret then you will have to accept the fact that they are expensive creature to keep. The ferret will spend a lot of time in its' cage because ferret spend a lot of their time sleeping, the cage must be big enough to fit a ferret bed inside for your little friend to sleep.
A decent sized ferret cage would be about 24 x 24 x 40 inches, this will allow your ferret plenty of room to move about and exercise. The best types of cages will have multi-level floors and ramps and tubes for your ferret to run about on so as to prevent them becoming bored. Ferret cages are inessesnce just very large hampster cages. The vast majority of ferret cages have as few plastic parts as possible because of the ferrets natural tendancy to chew anything they can. Having said that though, there are a variety of ferret cages that have a plastic base for easy cleaning, but these cages tend to have a coating on the base so as to make it near impossible for a ferret to chew through. Most cages will just be wire cages, the wire will have a chew proof coating on it to prevent your ferret escaping.
I am pretty sure that which ever cage you choose, your ferret will be very happy with it. Just remember that it must be a descent size and be chew proof, if you remember these things you cannot go far wrong.
