FERRET TOYS: Playing with your ferret...

WARNING: Do not give your ferret any soft rubber toys. They will try to eat it and it can clog their digestive system!

Keeping your ferret entertained is really not that hard or expensive. You don't need to go out and buy all sorts of costly pet toys, you have items around your home that will delight any ferret for hours. For instance:

TREAT BOTTLES:

Take an empty soda or water bottle (small one) or any plasitic bottle that has a narrow opening on top and punch a bunch of holes through it randomly along the sides. Then take some of your fuzzies' favorite treats and put them inside. Put it on the floor and once they smell the treats they will roll the bottle around trying to get at the treats. Eventually they will figure out how to tilt the bottle to get the treats out. Make sure you use a bottle that they can get the treats out of otherwise they will get very frustrated and lose interest.

OLD SWEATS:

Cut the legs off of an old pair of sweatpants and put it down on the floor. Your ferrets will crawl through it and if you tickle them while they're inside they will roll around and poke back at you. They will sleep in them too. Ferrets love soft dark places.

PAPER BAGS:

Take an empty paper bag and rattle it a little before putting it on the floor. Because ferrets are naturally curious, I can guarantee they will start poking around inside of it.

ROLLING BALLS:

Roll a toy ball past your ferret and he will chase after it. Balls with little noise-makers inside will definitely get his attention.

SQUEAKY TOYS:

Squeaky toys will instantly interest your ferret. They're also good for training your ferret.

PLAY HIDE & SEEK:

Play hide and seek with your ferret. Mine loves to tease me and then run under the bed. He will then sneak up behind me and "tag" (nip) me to get me to chase him again. Plus do his little "dance" in reverse... sooooooooooo cute!

BABBLE BALL: The BEST toy I ever bought for my fuzzies!
I love this toy and my fuzzies do too. It "talks"... it's motion sensitive so whenever it is moved it starts talking or making noises. My fuzzies love it! It will keep them busy for hours! Cats go crazy for this too. Absolutely hilarious to watch them play with this!



Talking Babble Ball - Small

The Babble Ball is an interactive toy that rivets the attention of pets! It talks and makes noises when touched. Dogs and cats love it, obsess with it, chase it and go absolutely nuts for it!

Ferrets love to burrow and will go into any small opening especially if it's dark. I went to my local Lowe's store and bought some of the landscaping 4" diameter plastic tubes that come in 10' lengths (approx. $3.00 each) and cut them down to shorter pieces and then used the T connectors (also around $3.00)and connected them to build a "ferret habitrail". They love to chase each through the maze of tubes. Dryer exhaust tubes (the long accordian type) are great too.

BURROW BOX:

Get yourself a big corrugated box or plastic storage box. Fill it with shredded paper (no newspaper because of inks) from your shredder or corn starch packing peanuts (no styrofoam peanuts), or long grain rice. Close up the box or storage unit and cut a hole into the top about 4" or so in diameter. Put it down in front of your ferret so he sees that it's something new and it won't take long for him to investigate and burrow through it. Ferrets love to burrow and this is a great way to keep them busy.

ICE CUBE POOL:

I live in Utah and the summers here are extremely hot. Ferrets do not do well in heat and must be kept cool to keep them from getting heat stroke. One of my ferret's favorites is their "ice pool". Take an under the bed plastic storage box (or any plastic box that has sides low enough for them to get in and out of), put in just enough water to wet the bottom. Then take a bunch of ice cubes and dump them in. The ferrets will play for hours with the ice cubes as they melt trying to grab and hide them. All the while keeping nice and cool in the summer heat. Plus getting a quick bath at the same time!
