Ferret Colors and Color Patterns
Welcome to the wonderful world of ferret colors. Most people don't realize that ferrets come in an array of different colors. They only see the most common sable masked ferret. I am here to tell you that there are many colors those many colors come in many different patterns.
So What Color is My Ferret?
List of Ferret Colors
Albino
The albino displays lack of color and pattern which gives a totally white ferret with red eyes.
Black Sable
The best Black Sables contain no warm tones such as the warm browns or gold tones.
Black and White
Has black and white hairs
Champagne
The champagne coloration looks like a diluted chocolate color.
Chocolate
Like a sable, but more chocolate color. Chocolate's have darker feet and tails than the rest of their body.
Cinnamon
Reddish, brown, guardhairs. Creamy undercoat.
Dark Eyed White
The guardhairs are all white and the eyes are brown or black.
Sable
The guardhairs are dark in color, ranging from darkest brown to black. The undercoat on the neck, belly, back is cream colored, and it may show through. The tail and legs are the same color as the body, but with no undercoat. The mask is a full band across their eyes.
Light Silver
Light silvers have about 10-20% silver body color
Medium Silver
Medium silvers have about 25-40% silver color.
Heavy Silver
Heavy silvers have about 40-60% silver color.

Different Patterns
Badger
This pattern usually has smudges around the eyes instead of a mask. All feet are white or tipped with white, they have white bibs, and sometimes the knees are white also. This type of ferret is prone to deafness.
Blaze
This type of ferret has a white strip that comes from the face and goes down the head and neck. It also has white feet, bib, and sometimes white knees. This type of ferret is prone to deafness.
Hooded
This type of pattern refers to the ferret with a racoony face mask that extends up and over the head.
Mitted
This pattern includes white feet and a white bib.
Panda
This pattern refers to the ferret that has a white head, reaching all the way down to their shoulders. This type of ferret also has a white bib, belly and feet.
Siamese
This pattern refers to the ferret that has a V shaped mask that is darker or lighter than the rest of the body. This ferret also has a line of color running through the length of the underside

- I have two ferrets, a dark sable (Twinkie-short for Twinkle Toes) and a light silver (Nanners). I really have always loved the albinos, because they are not easily come by. But when I was shopping for Nanners, I came across my first chocolate ferret, so now its a tie between the two. My favorite pattern is the panda and badger (which I've noticed on Nanners has faded. I know this happens as they get older, but she's not even a year old though...?)

- Thanks so much for taking the time to post a comment :) My ferret was silver and white and his color changed almost completely to white by the time he was two years old. He had just a few silver hairs left on his tail to prove that he wasn't born that way.

- Great lens, I wish I'd found it earlier... *much* better pictures of the various colors than google image search could offer!
I've lensrolled you with my Cute Ferret Gifts page as I'm trying to draw cartoon ferrets in various colors for owners. Its tough though because there are so many! ^_^
Come take a look and let me know if you'd like any specific color done (I figured it would be wiser to wait for requests before I do anymore because I have no idea whats popular in the ferret world.)
