Fibroid Symptoms

Excessive menstrual bleeding is a common symptom of uterine fibroids. This can take the following forms:

1. Heavy periods, where the bleeding seems uncontrollable even with super-plus tampons and night time sanitary towels

2. Prolonged periods, lasting more than 7 days

3. Short menstrual cycles, of 21 days or less, giving you less time to recover from the last period

4. Bleeding or spotting in between periods

In most cases, fibroids only cause a small amount of pressure and discomfort, which can be managed with painkillers or natural interventions.

However, a minority of women with uterine fibroids experience intense pain.

The pain arising from fibroids come in the following forms:

1. Menstrual cramps and painful spasms during periods

2. Pressure on the intestines, causing IBS symptoms and constipation

3. Severe pain with fever-like symptoms

4. Painful intercourse, caused by fibroids growing near the cervix

5. A dull, constant pressure-like pain, anywhere in the pelvic cavity
