Fielder Square Apartments in Downtown Memphis, TN

Ranked #6,171 in Travel & Places, #171,935 overall

Living in Downtown Memphis at Fielder Square Apartments

Fielder Square is located in Downtown Memphis, TN no more than a few hundred feet from the Auto Zone Baseball Park, home to the Memphis Redbirds.

From the door of the leasing office, which is located in the "main" apartment building (pictured on left), it is only a convenient ~800 feet to the Fogelman YMCA. From the very same entrance, it's only approximately 1,500 feet walking distance to the Eastern entrance to Beale Street, near Double Deuce -- a local bar that stays packed wall to wall.

From the Office to the closest Trolley station, which can be used for transit to numerous restaurants and businesses (including, but not to most of Main street), is only ~900 feet (0.17 miles).

The real key thing about Fielder Square is it's location. It's just right in the middle of things, and if you plan on hosting out-of-town guests it really showcases some of the coolest spots in Memphis. In the same area, people often pay $10 or more just for parking to come downtown, so the parking in and of itself is valuable. Incidentally, I've not had any problems with guests finding parking in the apartment complex.

Apartment Building Safety/Security

Security can be an issue in downtown Memphis, so if you're going to live downtown it's important that you find a place that feels safe to you. There can be a lot of homeless (though, rumor has it the issue is better than it used to be), and on the weekend there tends to be people loaded up after a night of drinking. However, fear not! With appropriate certification in ninjary, and appropriate street credibility -- the forehead tattoo stop sign comes highly recommended -- you should be safe.

Security Cameras

One benefit of Fielder Square is the presence of video cameras. I feel like this at least discourages people from displaying too much blatant sketchy behavior around the apartments. Because of the proximity to the auto zone park, it's not too uncommon to see police cars hanging around keeping an eye on things.

Fob Keypads

Residents get a nice little fob to place on their key ring that gives them access to the buildings. Not only is there a pad like this on the front door, but there's similar RFID detectors at every door entering the various buildings (including the parking garage). The number pad itself (pictured) is just for guests to call residents in order to get in. As far as I know, you need a landline for this functionality.

Recreation

The Fielder Square Gym

The free Fielder Square gym is clean, and for the most part, not overpopulated. The lack of overcrowding is likely because of the nearly adjacent YMCA fitness center. It has all the basics I need to get through a good workout, including cardio, freeweights and machines.

The Pool

The pool! It's generally kept spotless.. Rumor has it, the occasional party has been known to break out here, if that's your thing. Community grill to the right. Fire extinguisher nearby. Definitely do not swim after eating.

Spots Downtown Within Walking Distance

Fogelman YMCA

This YMCA is absurdly close to Fielder Square apartments. We're talking adjacent. Seriously. It has a basketball gym, tons of weights, and a pool that dwarfs Fielder Squares. This is shot from Madison Ave. Directly to the left is the trolley stop, and directly to the right is Auto Zone park, home of the Memphis Redbirds.

Downtown Elementary School

Prekindergarten-6th Grade...Only ~650 feet away

The Downtown Elementary School serves grades prekindergarten through 6th grade. They feature computers in every classroom, as well as a science lab partially funded by the University of Tennessee College of Medicine. This school is close enough to Fielder Square that during recess the children can be seen and heard playing from the atop the parking garage. The entrance to the school is ~650 feet from the apartment leasing office. Downtown Elementary can be reached via phone at (901) 416-8400 for registration information.

Relevant Videos

A few words about the videos I've selected to show you. The Dave Matthews Band concert was a truly immersive experience, even from my patio, and was definitely one of the coolest events held so far. The video simply doesn't do it justice to have heard the music, and seen the sheer concentration of humanity within eyesight. It was really, honestly, exciting. I'm not exaggerating that to impress you.

The Trolley Ride video gives a brief glimpse at what riding the Trolley around town is like. The Trolley is only a $1 to ride, and on the last friday of every month the trolley gives a free tour of the arts district -- which all of the art museums along South Main, and take full advantage of and provide free beer, and showcase their works. South Main itself is loaded with coffee shops, and the historic Arcade restaurant, as well as the Civil Rights museum. Read more about the Trolley Tour here.

The Memphis Flippers are a group that puts on shows every friday, as far as I've seen, on Beale street and can perform literally inhuman feats of acrobatics on a paved road with no special equipment. These guys really have their showmanship polished.

Hi and thanks for visiting my lens! I know that the facebook link is "dead" thanks for noticing anyway. I love Memphis, I was there a few years ago and really enjoyed all the food and music and fun stuff to do while there. A lot of downtown buildings were being converted in loft style living. 5* lens!

This is a great idea for promoting a specific feature of a city/town! I have a couple of my own local lenses and have thought that it may be more beneficial if I break them down into more keyword-specific lenses rather than one lens that promotes a variety of city features.
