Baseball- Go Cards

Even tho there is snow and ice on the ground here in Missouri, I know that Spring is just around the corner because baseball spring training has started. I hate to use the cliche that everyone is still in the hunt for the World Series still, but it is true. Every team starts out tied for 1st, but then again they also start out tied for last place also. But in Spring training everyone feels that this just might be the year that their team wins it all.

My love for baseball started when I was growing up in far south Texas, the closest team was the Houston Astros(those ugly uniforms), but I was a St Louis Cardinal fan. Every summer I would go to St Louis to spend time with my Grandmom and Grandfather, who was a huge Cardinal fan. He would take me to Cardinal games and taught me so much about the history of the Cardinals. I grew up hearing stories of the "Gas House Gang", Stan the Man and others. My favorite players were Bob Gibson and Lou Brock, I still swear to this day that Bob Gibson could walk on water and when he dies I am not sure if the sun will rise the next morning. The day games at old Busch Stadium were so hot and I can still picture the beer man yelling "BEER HERE!!" and my Grandfather saying "I want a short one". When I asked him why he called it a "short one" he would say "cuz it only lasts a short while". Those were great days.

These days I go to Springfield Cards games, they are the AA farm team of the St Louis Cardinals, a great organization with a rich tradition. I still think of my Grandfather when I hear the beerman and the smell of the field and sounds of the game are still the same.

Will the St Louis Cardinals go to the World Series this year? Probably not, the pitching is still weak, but Hey!!!We are in 1st place!!! GO CARDS!!!!

April 10, 2008 Cards win!!! We have been hearing this alot so far this year. The pitching has been good so far and with our best pitchers still out it looks like a better than expected year. Go Cards!!!!

Its March 31st, rain delay 5th inning. We are still in 1st place!!! I work as a paramedic and on March 28 the St Louis Cardinals were in town to play the AA Springfield Cardinals. I worked the baseball game, each game has an EMS crew for the game. The great thing it that we are stationed in the visitors locker room. I got plenty of autographs and pictures. It was a great night. I will write more about this later. GO CARDS!!
