    in manager mode, do player improvements depend upon the formation used? I mean, if a team has a traditional 4-4-2 formation and you achieve more success using the conventional 4-3-3, will player growth be affected? In my manager mode, I picked up Hereford (default 4-4-2) which was a half star team and have been continuously using 4-3-3 to get an attacking edge. The doubt that I have is whether this regular use of formation will affect player growths. thanks

    when playing manager mode, I haven't found out how to acess the "player stats" - the only thing I can find is the overall rating/changes during the season, and tables for "most goals, assists, etc). pls help.... :-)

    For Fifa 10, the sounders formation was edited. For Fifa 11, it is the default.

    Your goal keeper will automatically move up the penalty box for corner kicks when your game tactics is set to "Ultra Offensive" and when you are a goal behind.

    You will need to able to direct your console HDMI or AV output to your computer.
    The hardware to use is BlackMagic Intensity PCI for HDMI output/Input.
    If you are using AV signal output or you don't have a PCI slot desktop, then you can use DVD Maker 2 for Kworld which I'm using.
    The software to receive the console input is Adobe Flash Media Encoder 3. Google for more details.

    on fifa 09 in manager mode you gained team stars, so when you went up from league 2 to league 1 and so on your team rep went up and you wouldn't end up with a one star team in the premiership.... i'm now playing fifa 10 and i have taken a league 2 team to the premiership but am struggling to sign big name players because my team is still only a 1 star team, even though i have one every match and every cup. Am i doing something wrong? please anyone help. (360 version) Kenny.

    Hi, i have an xbox 360 and my mate has a ps3 and on his instant replay, he gets to view the whole match upto where he is, but on mine, i only get to watch about 15 seconds of it, how can i switch it to the whole match???

    he doesnt use a capture card, he could pause a game halfway through a match, click instant reply in the options, and watch the match from the beginning, if i do it, it only shows 15 seconds of the match.

    Concerning Fifa 10 my problem is running straight with a pad. My palyer somehow always breaks away, loses speed and the ball. Any hints how to avoid that?

    You can't just run straight with the ball. The defender will catch up with you if they are near. When the defenders are closing down, look for a possible 1-2 pass to your nearest player or just turn and stop the ball away from the opponent.

    I just do not get how to head the ball from crosses and corners, like on corners i get the ball right to the guy and tap X ( I play with the new alternative for Xbox 360) and it goes miles over the bar or goes right to the to the keeper.. And with crosses... oh those darn crosses... I just cant do it!? I know its easy for everyone else but for me, I just suck at it, Can you give some tips on this please please!!!!!!

    Double tap X (xbox) only when the ball is about to land for high crosses. Low crosses are always easier to head accurately.

    For more accurate headers for corners or high crosses, double tap on the shoot button only when the ball is about to land on to your player. In Fifa 10, it is harder to score accurately from high cross headers.

    i am confused about is some of the defensive controls/terminology. What is the difference between the press, jockey, running jockey, and jockey press? By that i mean what do they do and when do you use them? I am new to this game/soccer

    Press - To put pressure and often using a standing tackle to the opponent player who has the ball
    Jockey - To closely mark the opponent player without committing any unnecessary tackle
    Running Jockey - Same as jockey but sprinting while jockeying
    Jockey press - Same as jockey but a term used why releasing the L2/LT button to execute a standing tackle.

    Position your defenders backwards to the penalty box. Set your custom tactics to 15-20 pressure and about 20-30 for aggression.

    Hi, do you have any tips for scoring headers from crosses using default settings and defending crosses. I always find it difficult to defend normal crosses to the back post. Cheers

    Yes semi-assisted for crosses. It is easier to score from semi rather than full assisted for crosses. You will need to practice to adjust the crossing power. Your player should preferably be facing the goal post at about 45 degrees for the cross to be more accurate. To defend crosses, there is not sure way. Find out where the ball is going to land by looking at the cross on the floor. Press the shoot button or pass button (if unmarked) to clear the ball.

    New to the game, my defense seems to be ok, but my offense is bad. I seem to pass well to set up chances, but most shots go straight at the keeper or lauch over the goal - I don't think I am holding down the button for power.

    Keep practising your shooting to find the momentum and angle of the shot right. Try using R1+shoot button for finess shot. Finess shot is less powerful but more accurate. Tap the shoot button lightly for a ground shot when one to one with the keeper.

    There is no sure way to score from corners. If you are using assisted shooting, let the computer aim the shot direction (release your hand on the direction stick). Double tap the shoot button just before the ball is about to land.

    On Manager Mode, whenever i try and play a match, it freezes immediately after the match has finished, not allowing me to continue and meaning that I lose whatever result i had and then having to restart the console and eventually give up and sim the match. Do you know what this is and (hopefully) how to stop it short of buying another copy of the game? I have an Xbox 360 Elite if that helps.

    The sweeper is a formation position of a player. You need to use custom formation to change the role of the player. For example, when you move a CB more to the lower center just infront of the goalkeeper, you select "Change Role"; the game will prompt you to select a list of available role. If you can't see the sweeper role, try moving it closer to the keeper.
    Currently, I don't use the sweeper role unless you wish to play a defensive gameplay. The sweeper is best to stop long through balls players.

    Hi great blog btw :) ,

    I have seen a freekick glitch where the ball is aimed at the keeper and has some wierd sort of spin on it and literally the ball goes straight in under the keeper everytime. I have even seen this done at LAN events and it is really starting to annoy me. How is this done?

    I'm trying to figure out how positions work. I've got several guys on my team whose prefered position is CB or CM for example. Does that mean if I play him as an RCB or LCM that this player is "out of position"? I didn't think so at first, but I've noticed some of the defensive players get real specific sometimes; I once scouted a fellow who preferred to play RWB....thanks!!!

    Always look at the players preferred position. Take for example, a player preferred position is CB/SW/RB. If you play him as RWB, you will notice a drop in his overall statistic. If you play him as Striker (ST), his statistic will drop even more, meaning he is out of position thus affecting the player's attributes.

    Is it possable to upgrade your stats manualy with exp. points like '08 and '09 in Be a Pro Season? I remember reading that you can in this mode but I haven't figured out how to.

    Exp points are added automatically in Fifa 10. You can't distribute them unlike in Fifa 09.

    There is no Fifa 10 dream team glitch. The video you seen in youtube is a unrank match. That kid is trying to scam 2100 MS points. Cheers.

    Hi, ive been trying your formation and similiar tactics but find that alot of space is left in front of box when defending allowing opponents to shoot with little pressure from long range. Do you find this, how do you counteract this if you do and how can i stop this.

    In manager mode the players' form doesn't stay high. I rotate the squad quite a bit, the starters' form stays higher, obviously, but the other players stay low. I've tried using the assistant coach (it didn't make a difference). No matter how well the players and team are doing (top of the table), using them in their favorite/best positions, or being a top ranked manager with all coaching staff maxed, I can't keep all the players in high/top form. Is there a way to keep them all/or a good majority of them in top form?

    i reached level 20 in 2 days then i can't just go past there.. i can't win and i can't seem to have the upper hand in any match...

    i'm always under pressure and alwayes easy countered. i've been playing fifa 09 for long time and i've not had such toubles.

    i tried all teams "man u , Barca , Chelsea and inter" with many formations. 442,433,41212 with different styles. defensive + counter attack, ultra offensive... i've tried everything and i can't seem to find the key to have the upper hand in game.

    i know there is a part i miss or i'm bad at but i am good @ fifa and i know what i'm saying. it's just i don't know what's the missing piece in this puzzle, please help

    Try changing your playing style and use custom tactics. Try playing more realistic game style as you see in real life matches. Try it and you can see the difference.

    customs tactics won't work online as you know. i found out the issue m8, it was about the customs tactics. all my teams i used had a very slow build up which caused my midfielders to slowly move up the pitch.

    i changed the team to a team with default high speed build up and i'm on a 9 matches winning streak :D level 25

    Custom tactics work online for rank and unrank. To use custom tactics online, change your "Quick Tactics" configuration to your saved custom tactics. When the match starts, press "down" and "up" on the keypad to select your saved "Quick Tactics".

    How can i load my custom team for online play? It's actually kind of a pain in the a@@ to even do it for a quick exhibition game. Maybe i'm just a total tard & can't figure it out. Sometimes i play opponents who's online team is infinitely stronger & faster than mine & i need a miracle to score 1 goal per 6 or so chances because i get run off the ball or mauled by 2-3 defenders at once. Please advise if you can & i really appreciate your feedback.

    I have same problem. Sametimes, i find opponents very very faster, stronger, etc... The reaction time of the players is very faster; the rebounds is always yours; the cover is always perfect; the goalkeeper very good. I think it could be upgrade bought in Fifa Store, perhaps anabolics. Rightly, it isn't a command in the joystick. May be a glitch. I don't know what to do. Someone knows?

    hi i have just started my 6th season on manager mode and i had about 120m in the band and remaining wage budget of £950,00. once i signed for the next year i have noticed that my money has gone and in 2 billion debt with my wage budget down to -£250,00. do you possibly know whats happened??

    I sit possible to set up a game with more than one friend in it? We have tried and tried and even got all three of us in the same game lobby but then can only play one on one. We are wanting 2 on 1.

    Go to Online lobbies > Game modes > and create a room. Set the "Friends Only" to yes. The "Game Mode" set to Online Team Play. Once your friends are in the room, "Create Session" to create your game. Your friends in the room will then able to join the game.

    I have a question about the one touch sytem. When you receive a pass, are you simply suppose to tap the direction you want to move as the ball touches your foot?? I am having difficulty getting it right. My players will stop for a second before moving, losing valuable time

    I believe you are referring to pass and move 1-2 passing. Yes, sometimes your player will pause momentarily before making a quick run to intercept the return pass The AI and your player tactics awareness attribute will determine how fast the passing player will make the forward run after passing the ball. The position of the opponent players will also affect how fast your player make the forward 1-2 run.

    Thats not exactly what i was referring to ( 1-2 pass). When receiving a pass, some players will ( in 1 fluid motion) take the ball and start running in the direction you tap the controller. Other players will, upon receiving the ball stop momentarily and then continue moving. I just checked in my setting, in general gameplay. Its called First Touch/Knock-On. RS+ direction upon receiving the pass. Some players will do it better than others. After reading info on this site, i'm assuming it's because some players have better attributes than others and perform this maneuver better. Thanks alot for your input!

    On manager mode, 1 of the msgs which comes up is other teams having an interst in my players and advises me to make sure they are happy and have a long contract if I am to retain them. Each time I try to give them an extended contract it declines the offer - please advise as I seem to be loosing some of my best players and feel this may be the reason.

    Everything the same with the exception that I'm using 4-5-1 now. The only change is to use a CAM and ST. Previously, I'm using a LS and RS in a 4-4-2 formation.

    I tend to use a modified 3 4 3 with the midfield positioned so that the right centre midfield is advanced of the left centre midfield. Not quite a diamond but a sort of squished diamond. I then have two L and R strikers feeding centre striker. However I also use a different formation that floods the midfield against more central teams so I can spread it out wide and cross in to a lone striker supported by a CAM.

    I have a bad bug or glitch I have found, and wondered if anyone else had the same problem. After the first season with my virtual pro, I noticed that the game kept freezing and crashing in the Arena. When I changed out of my pro's team it didn't crash, but as soon as I switched back again it did. Also one of my players had a -14000 skill level.

    Anyone else get something similar?

    of course you can do the set pieces on xbox360. However, most people don't use it anymore. Furhtermore, there is a bug in the set pieces. When using set pieces for corner kick, this will cause the power gauge bar to be disabled.

    Hi,

    In Fifa 10, I find that often the performance bar at the bottom of the screen (that fills or empties based on what you do during the match) often freezes or does nothing. I am finding that increasingly often I am stuck on a 6.5 match rating despite having completed 90% of my passes and scored 4 goals. What is going on? Is there a glitch or what?

    So I am playing INTER VS CHELSEA, on championship Gaming 360 LIVE. I go up 4 - 0 in first 30 minutes. The next thing I see, my whole team goes dumb and limp, and the guy scores 4 goals on me,
    I win 5 - 4 in OT. but proves my point. AI (artificial intelligence) is so hard to implement in this game, its fake. The built in advantage for the home team, handicap for the visitors, I wish this game was more arcade, than real life BS. I miss Ultimate Team, cant wait to get my all Italian D, English midfield and French Strikers....

    There is no one size fits all custom tactics for sure win. You will need to keep practising to improve. The custom tactics for your team is unique to your playing style only. If you really wish to improve, just play a low rated team and use Seattle sounders default custom tactics. For fast abuser team like Real Madrid, you can go to my Fifa 09 blogs are use the custom tactics which I've highlight in the Ultimate team section.

    I like playing a fast short passing style with the tendency to hit quite a few long throughballs to get strikers to breakaway. Im finding that the 4-3-3 formation with narrow wingers and a cdm effective. Do you have any suggestions on strengthening the defense of such a formation and i also find that the wingers tend 2 get isolated. Cheers

    I used the same custom tactics for all teams and it suits my ball possession and counter attacking game play style. If my custom tactics don't work for you, you have to teak it to suit your style. I don't play Arsenal and i don't have a sure win Arsenal custom tactics..

    Any tips on how to tweak your formation to suit a more direct/faster build up play. I cant seem to hold on to ball without getting myself in trouble. Im caught in possestion/ run out of passing opportunities often and also end up being caught in possession with defenders leading to breakaways. Also when i can hold on to ball dont seem to get anywhere.

    The corner set pieces is currently buggy. You couldn't see the power-up bar when set pieces is executed. For free kicks set pieces, they don't work well for me at the moment. It is still more effective to practice direct free kick that curls round the wall. In summary, set piece is not a necessity at the moment. It is better that you create the set pieces yourself so that you understand how it works for you.

    The custom tactics settings are exact to Seattle Sounders default. The formations, positioning and work rate are the same as in my Fifa 09 blog. I may put up the screenshot later but basically, what I've said here is what I use so far.

    The custom tactics will depend on the individual style of play. Currently, I'm using Seattle Sounders (MLS) default custom tactics which I find it pretty balanced for attacking and defending.

    My mid fielders are all set to medium attack and medium defence. The defenders (CB, SW, LB, RB) are set to low attack and high defence. The CDM is set to medium attack and high defence.     The .flv extension is a flash file. Windows media player is able to play the file. If your media player is unable to play the .flv file, then there must be some missing codecs then need to be installed. Another method is to download this very good video player VLAN.     I can only give my personal preference. You can play 5-3-2 or a modified 4-4-2 with sweeper, CDM, LAM and RAM. Different team players have different player vision ratings which allows them to run into space more intelligently. So, the formation is not really the most important factor to consider.

    Which defensive formations are best for players who arnt great at dribbling. I for example cant play with a lm/rm in a 442 or 4-1-2-1-2. If i play wingers then i make them relatively central and high up the pitch in a 4 3 3 close to my striker.

    I used "cover" defender line tactics in Fifa 09 and Fifa 10. The reason is because the "offside trap" tactics is not really effective for low rated teams which I normally used. If you are using a sweeper formation, do not use "Offside trap" tactics... common sense right... LOL.. You can read more the "Offside trap" and "Cover" tactics in my blog which I put just up. Cheers.

    For me, I'm a ball possession style player, always playing defensive with quick counter attack tactics. My formation is a modified 4-4-2 with a sweeper and CDM. For all out attacking playing style players, the 4-3-3 is a very good attacking formation in Fifa 10.

    Yes, agreed that 1-on-1 with keeper outside the penalty box is more difficult now in Fifa 10. The fitness shot is also "nerfed" which is less accurate now after the patch. When the keeper is off his line, the chip shot is most effective. You can also pass it to another player for a easy tap in. For me, most of my shots are created by ball possession passes into the penalty box for a easy short range shot goal.

    I know you like to play cover over offside traps but how much do you value cover tactics. Do you you think Inter (cover tactics) are better then real madrid (offside traps) to play online despite madrids fast attacking riches?     Any tips for finishing one on ones when you have no pressure and also when the defenders are on top of you.Cheers I had a good record on fifa 09 managed to often get 10 and even 20 or so match streaks against same level opponents when focusing but finishing was dire and now even worse on fifa 10 seem to eaither shoot at keeper or put it just wide of the post.

    True enough; but more precisely: to unlock skill level 1 (or 2/3/4/5) you need to do specific tricks with your VP (Virtual Pro). I'd recommend the Arena.

    Ben: to unlock trick level 1: while standing (still) with your VP, press and hold LT and hit RB a couple of times. There, that's level 1 for you, good job :)

    How to unlock levels 2,3,4 and 5: hit start. Go to "VP" menu. Go to "My skills" menu. Go to "Ball control" menu. Then, move down to the line that says "Skill level". Now, hit "Y".
    This will bring up a new screen that will show/expain how to do each and every trick. To move around between trick levels, use LT and RT.

    Notes: above is written from an Xbox 360 point of view.
    LT = left trigger, RT = right trigger, RB = right bumper.

    The stadium name should not be able to edit once you started the MM. I couldn't find ways to edit the name. There is no way to change the game difficulty midway through the game. The midfield is always been closed down too fast. Use 1-2 (pass and move) passing to make your midfielder run up the field. Set your midfield players attack and defence settings to both medium.

    You will need to improve your virtual pro player skill level before he can do more tricks. To improve the skills, you will need to complete the assigned virtual pro accomplishments
    The game face server currently is facing some problems. My suggestion is to delete the game face and recreate again or just use the default "non-photo" game face.

    Hi, I've created a virtual pro but he is unable to do any tricks/skills in the games and arena. If I change to any other player they are instantly able to do so. I thought this maybe because I had to unlock the skills but some of the objectives require me to use the skills so I'm a little confused. Also I created a gameface but it previews as a black head with read eyes? any help or suggestions would be appreciated, cheers.

    What i wanted to say is that i am playing in be a pro mode in the season for Ajax. I already finished one year and won everything. Now is it possible that other teams will make transfer offers for my player or i will play the rest of the seasons and the rest of be a pro mode only for Ajax. And i am not sure but if i edit the player i believe i have to start again the season and therefore loose everything i got in playing be a pro mode till now.
    So the question is will my player get offers from any other clubs in be a pro mode , so that i can also play with him in other leagues?

    In online rank play, I'm not too sure of the exact calculations of skill points. One thing is sure is if you use a lower rated team and wins the match, you can get more skill points. Also, if you score more goals (goal difference), you get more skill points too.

    Honestly, I can't comment much on one's formations, because it needs to suit your playing style as well. Your formation is pretty fine to me. You can make your CDM with medium attack and high defence. Your CM can be positioned higher to support your attack because Fifa 10 is mostly about possession and passes to create goals. Cheers.

    Could you comment on my formation (balance, improvements etc) I play with a 4-3-3 with a flat back 4 all low attack high defense workrate and positioned backwards in defense. A cdm on defensive semicircle with high defense low attack and positned forwrds in attack and backwards in defense. Two cm with medium attack and defense and positioned backwrds in defense. Then a striker positned forwrd in attck and two wingers just infront of the corner of the penalty box positned at angle into the box ahead with the wingers and striker high attck and low defense. I normally play with fast strikers and wingers over heading ability etc

    When defending, use jockey press when near penalty box. Try not to run your defenders out too far out to leave gaps in the defence.

    For Fifa 10 online matches, there is no custom tactics any more. I love to play as the underdog by selecting a 1 to 2.5 star teams. I avoid teams with "offiside trap" as the default tactics. Yes, the defence should be deep and not too high up the field.
    In summary, being able to defend properly is the key to winning matches. The defence tactics are very similar to Fifa 09 tactics which can be found in my Fifa 09 blog as well.

    Hi! Im just wondering.. Anybody who knows of a site/video which shows all the new tricks and how to do them? Kind'a like the "New Skills"-movie on youtube, but better?

    I don't play virtual pro because I don't really like the concept of creating fake super power player. :-)
    Basically Fifa 10 is a combination of Fifa 09 skill moves. For Fifa 10 skill moves, you can find the video on this site. For Fifa 09 skill moves, you can find it in my Fifa 09 blog site. Cheers.

    My prefer formation is 4-4-2 and perhaps a sweeper for weaker teams. The formation depends on your playing style too. As for custom tactics, I will not change it because it is pointless to change it too. This is because you cant change the custom tactics in online play, for both rank and unrank.

    Can you do a list of all the skills if that isn't to tricky

    The manual only lists a couple and i am on the 4 star skills for my virtual pro

    The last 3 i have unlocked by just playing about in the arena but i can't seem to do the 4th ones.

    Any other tips on how to make your virtual pro better without spending any money

    The best bet when starting a new season is to put your team on auto manager untill you have enough money to upgrade fitness to level 5.Getting my fitness to level 5 is always my top priorety before upgrading,defence,mid attack and goalkeeper.

    You will need to have form 2 teams in your squad. Always try to rotate your starting 11 with squad A with squad B. In this way, your players will not be over exhausted. This is one of the method use in Fifa 09 ultimate team as well. Cheers. ;-)

    To hold off players, my personal style is to try to let go of the direction joystick. This way, you can use the Fifa 10 enhanced ball shielding by holding R2/RT to hold back the ball. Some players find it hard to shield the ball because they are always moving the left direction joystick.

    Another method is to use close control by holding L2/LT while dribbling and turning your defenders.

    The last method is to use the skilled dribbling method in Fifa 10 by holding both L2/LT R2/RT. Skill dribbling is good when your player need to move sideways away from your opponent, either to sprint forward to space or to make a pass.

    IM 3 GAMES INTO THE SEASON ON MANGER MODE AND ALL MY PLAYERS ARE SO TIRED I CANT PLAY ANY OF THEM. I AM A TEAM IN THE COLA -COLA LEAGUE 2 BUT SURLY THERE MUST BE A WAY OFF INCREASIN THERE FITTNES.

    OH N YES I HAVE HIRED A MORE ADVANCE FITTNES COACH. AND I AM ROTATING THE PLAYERS AS BEST I CAN. BUT STILL NO GOOD.

    There is always a debate whether to use manual, semi or assisted. It is entirely up to personal preference. If one feel that manual is good for him, then he can always practice manual mode. Cheers.

    Yes, the players will be updated in Fifa 10. You have to be online to get the latest game update too.

    Try double tap on the cross button. The cross will be lower, curled, faster and harder to defend. You can read about it in one of the article in this site.

    how the heck do you score a header on either corner and cross. I've played about 500 games online and I've had my share but cannot consistently hit the header or direct it propery with the right power. please help....I can't stand it anymore!!! thx

    This is a good idea to be able to lift the trophy when you won a tournament. At the moment, nothing of this sort is announced yet.

    all i've been waiting in fifa series is to be able to lift the trophy like in real life kind of like brazil did when they won the confederation cup because in fifa when you win a tournament it just tells you congratulations you have won ...etc and that is so f---ing boring you feel like you did not won anything,does anyone know if we are going to see this in fifa 10?
