Celebrating Fifty

I turned 50 years old in January. A half of a century old. I can remember going into a store and getting a little brown bag full of penny candy!

I can remember my step-father searching in the car seats for coins to put gas into his car. That was back when gas was; are you READY for this $0.24 a gallon.

I can remember playing outside at night in Baltimore with relatives; feeling safe and it being okay to get frozen coffee from an old man down the street who did this for children as treats?

I remember listening to 45 records, to songs such as "Build Me Up Buttercup Baby" and hit songs by the "Monkeys" and playing "Cherry Hill Park" a million and one times.

I remember looking out my step-fathers car windows when we were driving down the road and seeing all of the "Flower Power", "Peace Signs", and "Love" written everywhere!

I remember watching Bonnie and Clyde for the first time and my step-father playing the 33 record of the movie all of the time.

I remember a day when living in a community and feeling safe, and there always seemed to be help when you needed it.

I remember when Halloween was a big event, and Christmas was everything in a child's heart.

Well, needless to say, I could probably come up with 50 things easily that I remember in my 50 years of life, but I would much rather focus in on other things.
