The first rule of Fight Club is you don't talk about Fight Club!
Fight Club has been labeled as a 'cult classic', which means while not everyone may love the movie, those who do tend to be fiercely loyal, watching it a hundred times, buying merchandise, doing re-enactments, and so on.
I've created this page for those who wish to learn about this witty, masterfully directed, brilliantly acted movie. This lens is part of my series The 20 Must See Edward Norton Movies.

All films take a certain suspension of disbelief. Fight Club takes perhaps more than others, but if you're willing to let yourself get caught up in the anarchy, this film, based on the novel by Chuck Palahniuk, is a modern-day morality play warning of the decay of society.

Fight Club - What It's About
Spoiler free overview of the movie
With a name like Fight Club you'd expect this movie to based in violence, but in fact it takes a deeper look at the effect commercialism and the desire for material gains has on our society. The main character in the film is played by Edward Norton and he's never given a name in the movie. He is a representation of an average corporate man who walks through life hollow, finding happiness only in the possessions he's acquired. He suffers from insomnia and starts seeking out others who are worse off than him by going to support groups so he might feel better. The movie takes a turn when he meets Marla Singer, played beautifully by Helena Bonham Carter. He then befriends a man named Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt) who is an anarchist of sorts and the two of them create a club for men to get together and let out their aggressions by fighting each other.
I don't want to give away any more of the story but I will tell those of you who have never seen it before, there is a twist at the end that should surprise you. This movie is rated R as there is some violence and sexual situations.

My Fight Club Review
I didn't know what to think when I first saw the cover to the movie Fight Club at the video store. I mean, a hand holding soap with fight club carved in it? What's up with that? I had never heard of Edward Norton but I liked Brad Pitt so I decided to check it out. What I saw literally changed my life. After watching Fight Club one time I became a huge Norton fan and proceeded to watch all of his films.Fight Club is one of those movies that you have to watch a least twice to fully catch everything. It wasn't until I had bought the dvd and watched the special features that I learned about the easter eggs and other cool things the film makers had done to enhance the movie.
This movie is filled with witty rhetoric, fast music (The Dust Brothers), and a compelling storyline that will have you glued to the screen. Brad Pitt makes a great teacher of anarchy and is a excellent compliment to Norton. Surprisingly, Fight Club was not well received at the box office, probably because the majority of people didn't understand it. It wasn't until it was released on dvd that it became hugely popular.
I highly suggest Fight Club if you are a fan of Norton, Pitt, or if you like movies that make you think (and maybe scratch your head). Fight Club is defiantly one of Edward Norton's 20 Must See Films.

- It's been one of my favorites since the first day I saw it. Also, it'll always hold a special place in my heart for introducing me to the Pixies and the works of Chuck Palahniuk.
