File Folder Game Supplies

Ranked #4,554 in Education, #109,001 overall

This page is a suggestion of file folder game supplies. It is by no means a list of things you have to have. There are many ways to make file folder games and many materials with which you can make them. This page provides some suggestions on things you can use and mix and match to make incredible games for your children or students. The purpose of file folder games is to learn. The rest of it just helps enhance the experience. To see more file folder games, check out this page: File Folder Games.

The Basics

  • File Folder- Colored ones makes the games look more appealing, but you do not have to have them.
  • Adhesive- You need something to stick it all together.
  • Scissors
  • Paper

Other things you may want for your file folder games.

  • A printer- there are many printable file folder games you may want to print out off of the internet.
  • Stickers- add these to decorate, use them for game pieces, use them on the cards or make paths with little circle labels for game pieces to travel on.
  • A paper cutter- it is a lot easier to cut out cards with a paper cutter.
  • Die cuts- use these for decorations, cards, game pieces or even as a part of the game board.
  • Card stock- I prefer card stock over construction paper. It seems to hold up better and it does seem to fade as bad.
  • Coloring materials- these can be crayons, markers, colored pencils, ect.

Cricut Expression 290300 Personal Electronic Cutter

Die cuts work well in file folder games. I think the Cricut has many advantages over other die cut machines. The cartridges for the Cricut are much more economical because you get many designs on one cartridge. Also the ability to re-size the die is important with file folder games. You can use the dies for game pieces, cards, decoration or for part of the game board.

Circle Labels

Circle labels are excellent for making game boards for file folder games. Use the circles to lay down the path that the game pieces move on.

Carl 12200 Bidex Professional 10-Sheet Rotary Trimmer, Metal Base, 12 x 11

Amazon Price: $23.54 (as of 05/31/2012)Buy Now

I personally like the rotary paper trimmers the best. They aren't near as dangerous as the guillotine style ones and I have had better luck with them over the rail style of paper trimmer. Another plus for the rotary style, is you can get cute shape cuts that can help jazz up your file folder games.

Stickers

Have a variety of stickers on hand to decorate your file folder games, make game piece from them or you can use them on the question cards.

Xyron Creatopia Multi-Function Crafting Machine

Amazon Price: $118.94 (as of 05/31/2012)Buy Now

This machine does tons of stuff! For file folder games, it provides a great adhesive and can laminate your pieces. It can also do fun stuff like emboss and make die cuts.

Other Adhesives

I personally prefer a dry adhesive, (I'm partial to Xyron) for file folder games. They do not bubble up like a lot of liquid glues do. They also stick really well. It's no fun when you create a game and then all the piece fall off!

I still don't quite get what file folder games are. I looked at some of the other links you've provided and I just don't get how to play the games. Are there different rules for different topics or are these similar to lapbooks?

Hi! Each file folder game has it's own rules. Basically it's making an educational board game that is easy to store away and it all fits within a file folder. If your child/ student is struggling with multiplication, then you find a math game that works on multiplication, ect.

OK. Thank you for letting me know. I've bought educational board games for teaching reading and one that teaches the major bones in the body, but I like the idea of making them on my own and small enough to store away flat. I guess you have to be pretty creative to make a lot of these up. Thanks for sharing.
