Diet Induced Trauma
Dieting can be one of the most gosh awful things that a person can be forced to endure. The tummy growls constantly. You wind up sitting in a corner all by your grumpy old self, sipping herbal tea, and munching on a stick of celery to stave off the traumatic effects of self induced starvation.
Every trip out into the glaring reality of life and living has you pouting as you find yourself staring into the satisfied eyes of the gazillions of skinny people out there in the real world. They always seem to wind up right in your line of view, and you can't help but notice as they pig out on candy bars, chocolate covered donuts and any other number of the millions of fattening foods that they seem to deem a necessary part of their diets. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
Super Antioxidant: Acai Berry
How To Survive Dieting:
One of the latest studies to help us in our never ending battle of the bulge comes from Dr. Susannah Holt, who has now conducted research studies into discovering the most filling foods. The theory behind this type of research goes sort of like this: feeling less hungry throughout the day should make losing weight a much easier task to accomplish. If we are able to consume foods that make us feel full for longer periods of time, it should have a major affect on the actual amount of food that we consume throughout the day, and this would then ultimately affect the amount of weight that we would then lose as we diet.
Sounds reasonable to me!
So each respondent in her study was offered an equal 240 calorie portion of one of 38 different foods and then checked on at regular time periods afterward to measure the degree of satisfaction that the food was providing. These foods were then analyzed to discover the reasoning as to why they were able to satisfy hunger cravings for longer periods of time than the other foods that were tested. The resulting list or "Satiety Index" indicates how each of these foods ranked as the most filling foods and why.

Bon Apettit'
Satiety Index's Most Filling Foods:
1.Boiled potatoes2.Ling fish
3.Porridge
4.Oranges
5.Apples
6.Brown pasta
7.Beef
8.Baked beans
9.Grapes
10.Wholemeal bread
11.Popcorn and Wholegrain bread tied for this spot: If you like to snack then take into account that you will get to eat much more popcorn than bread.
12.All-bran
13.Eggs
14.Cheese
15.White Rice
16.Lentils
17.Brown Rice
Now grab a plate and go fill up on these foods.
The Factors That Make Foods Filling:
Fiber, protein, bulk, and fluid content all were major components as to why a food was ranked as filling.Boiled potatoes were by far the all out winner in this research study. They were found to be the food that most greatly reduced our hunger cravings. However, fried potatoes (French fries) did not produce the same satisfying result, it is believed that our body's ability to store fat as an emergency source is the reasoning as to why greasy food did not satisfy our hunger cravings. Our body takes fat and stores it for future use and so does not view the intake of fatty foods as an immediate food source, therefore our body does not advise our brain to quit eating, and we continue to feel hungry.
Popcorn and oranges were satisfying because of the bulk amounts that one could consume in relation to the number of calories they contain. You can eat a tremendous amount of these foods for very little calorie content.
The slow digestion of beans and lentils is believed to be the reasoning as to why they were found to be so satisfying.
So when dieting keep in mind the foods that fill you up most, even though they may not be typical diet foods, they might be the most important ones to consume if you want to succeed at losing weight.

Very interesting Lens. Glad to see that porridge was listed as the third filling food item. I eat bulgar wheat porridge for breakfast, which has the fiber, protein and water needed for the full feeling. Check out my healthy breakfast foods Lens to find out what else I have for breakfast, that helps with weight loss.
