Play Arts Action Figures: Final Fantasy VII
Here's my guide to Play Arts' Final Fantasy 7 Action Figures, with detailed photos, info and links to current Amazon and eBay listings.
These 1/6th scale collectibles are articulated so they can be posed for action -- in fact, as you'll see below, many fans are making stop-motion videos with them! Thanks to Final Fantasy game designer Tetsuya Nomura, they match their original game models closely.
Most Play Arts figures come with alternate hands and weapons plus a stand (which I never use; the ones I've bought stand by themselves).
Below are my mini-reviews of each Final Fantasy VII action figure, including the best photos and/or videos I can find. Enjoy!
Unless otherwise noted, promotional photos are from Square-Enix. Also, thanks to TomoPop Reviews website for allowing its review images to be sharable!

Final Fantasy Action FIgures By Play Arts

Remember the epic escape from Shinra HQ with Cloud busting the gang out and fighting off Shinra grunts on a motorcycle? Here's that famous motorcycle. Handlebars turn, wheels turn, shocks move, there's a kickstand... it's a nice piece of work.

Get Cloud From the Original Final Fantasy VII Game
Don't want the motorcycle, just Cloud? No problem. He comes with the same alternate hands and Buster sword as in the set. Here's a great photo from TomoPop giving you another view of this action figure. Again, compare with original game concept art.

(Photo Credit: Colette Bennett, TomoPop Reviews)
Also see this fantastic photo shoot of the Cloud Action figure. He really does seem to look good in any pose.

Buy on Amazon or check the eBay listings below.
Watch out, because there are also a rare Cloud Strife Static Arts Figure
(fixed on base; note flame-like backdrop) and Dissidia Trading Arts Figure
(matches original concept art; sword fixed over shoulder) of Cloud that look fairly similar. And if that wasn't enough, there's also a cute Cloud Strife FF7: Crisis Core Figure
(old blue Shinra uniform, two shoulderpads) without the Buster Sword.
Below are eBay listings for the original Cloud Play Arts figure; just double-check to make sure seller haven't labeled them incorrectly.

Aerith Play Arts Action Figure
aka Aeris Gainsborough from Original Final Fantasy VII

Aerith is not quite as flexible as some of the other action figures due to her skirt, but she can still dance, as you'll see from the rather...unique...*cough* fan-made video below! Also check out this great fan photoshoot of the Aerith figure.
Alternate hands let Aerith grasp her staff or clench a fist and look slightly less like a flower girl. Speaking of which, that Crisis Core Play Aerith

Tifa Play Arts Original Game Figure
Final Fantasy VII's Brawling Bartender

And oh does she. Have you tried giving her a Power Wrist early on? She wipes the floor with just about any monster.
At any rate, this is Tifa's original concept art recreated. Alternate hands let her do maximum damage or drive the Daytona herself!

Again, watch out for Advent Children Tifa
Some seller list the Tifa Advent Children figure as just Tifa, but she's easy to spot: she's wearing all black, longer skirt. (I actually like Tifa's Advent Children sculpt
even better, but here's original Tifa for FF7 original game purists.)

(Original) Vincent Valentine Action Figure
Play Arts Action Figure from FF7 Original Game

He looks fantastic, as you can see, and is once again faithful to the original concept art. Like most of the Play Arts figures, he comes with alternate hands for grasping his weapon -- a pistol -- and an optional display stand, but he doesn't need it.

Yuffie comes with alternate hands for grasping ill-gotten gains or punching Vincent. Materia? You'll have to hunt for it.
Unlike Aerith with her sheath skirt, this Yuffie figure is extremely flexible for getting into maximum trouble.

Red XIII and Cait Sith Action Figures
Play Arts Figures for Final Fantasy VII

Cait Sith comes with an alternate hand holding his megaphone (gosh, those crazy game designers), while Nanaki just looks cool. They're not articulated in quite as many ways as their bipedal friends, but they're still flexible enough for many action poses.
Check out this fan photo of the Red XIII figure. Did I mention he looks cool?

Advent Children
These highly-detailed figures are all based on designs by Tetsuya Nomura, award-winning game designer of Final Fantasy. Below are some of my favorite FF action figures: they look fantastic, and they're some of the best characters in the series.
No Rufus, but at least we've got Reno and Zack!
But first, let's take a quick video preview so you can see how great these action figures look...

One of the Final Fantasy VII Play Arts Figures

Zack's venerable Buster Sword has been retired. Cloud now wields an even more enormous sword by the name of First Tsurugi aka the Fusion Sword. Alas, the Play Arts toy doesn't disassemble like the movie sword, but it looks pretty good in his hands. (Cloud also has alternate hands clenched into fists.)

Cloud's New Bike for FFVII: Advent Children Movie

Hang on, what about that bike? Here it is. Fenrir is Cloud's new bike seen in the Advent Children movie. It's a simply phenomenal piece, with some of the finest detailing you'll find on any toy or replica anywhere. All the parts that ought to move do. If you look closely, you can see where one of Cloud's Fusion Sword blades is sheathed along the fork of the motorcycle.

Tifa Lockhart Advent Children Figure

I can't help thinking of Tifa's great battle sequence in Aerith's church every time I see this figure. I really love the details on this outfit, from the treads on her shoes (no 3 inch heels for this gal, no offense, Lulu) to the pink ribbon in honor of Aerith. Here's a fan photo showing a close-up of the Tifa Advent Children figure's face.

Sephiroth Advent Children Play Arts Action Figure
He's Baaaaaaaaaaaaack
First law of Final Fantasy: when a character comes back from the dead, designer Tetsuya Nomura adds more buckles, straps, and/or zippers. Sephiroth being nearly impossible to kill, he's received a whole bank of buckles. And another few feet to his masamune sword, of course. Mommy issues, length issues... Sephiroth is one mixed-up mutant.

He comes with hands for grasping his epic sword, and a second pair of hainds for gesturing menacingly to summon down the apocalypse... or perhaps simply to give you dis pear (Click the link. Everyone needs to see it once.)

Yuffie's back, and I must say the face sculpt on her new Advent Children is a more realistic-looking likeness than the original game figure.

it's a fine figure that captures Yuffie's personality well, with enough articulation to let you pose her in many dramatic ways. Check out this great fan photoshoot for some examples.

Reno of the Turks Advent Children Figure
Final Fantasy VII Play Arts Action Figure
Hot dog, it's Reno of the Turks! Too bad Rude's not around, but it's great to have this sly thug-turned-trickster as part of the Play Arts Final Fantasy collection.

Compared to some of the other Play Arts action figures, Reno is a little plain, but there's only so much you can do with a neatly-pressed mobster suit. On the other hand, check out this amazing fan photo of the Reno figure. What a stud!

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Figure
Kadaj Play Arts Action Figure
Villain of Final Fantasy Advent Children
Poor Kadaj. Yaoi fangirls fawn on him; most other fans ignore him. He's always second fiddle to you-know-who.
Nevertheless, Kadaj was the main villain in Advent Children, so of course he gets his own action figure. The good: his double-bladed katana, which has a fantastic hilt. The bad: I really don't know about those pants, Kadaj. On the other hand, the head and eyes manage to capture his creepy personality very well, despite (or because of) being nearly expressionless.

For those who are completing their Final Fantasy Play Arts collection, or who love Kadaj, here he be.

There's More!

Last but not least, Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core Action Figures... with Zack!
Crisis Core
Here's my mini-reviews and photos of the Play Arts action figures available for Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core. There's only three of them, but they allow us to see Cloud and Aerith in more innocent days. More importantly, Crisis Core at last lets us meet the endearing hero, Zack Fair. Here's some good photos and listings for all of these action figures on Amazon and eBay. They're becoming rare, so if you want them, you'd better find them soon!

There's better videos showing you the Zack Fair action figure, but this one made me laugh. (For a more serious one, look for Zack vs. Sephiroth).

Zack Fair Play Arts Action Figure
He's Such a Puppy! Ahem.
I haven't even played FF7: Crisis Core, and I'm fond of Zack. Squeenix did a good job making him into a lovable character.

This 8" tall Play Arts figure captures Zack Fair perfectly, from his Buster Sword to his scar and the trademark anime forelock hanging over his eyes. As you can see from the above short, his twenty points of articulation mean he can be posed in many ways. An extra hand lets him grasp his sword or have a closed fist, and he also comes with a display stand.
My only quibble is that they didn't include the beach umbrella Zack wields in one battle.
This is a rare and fun figure to own, but the price keeps climbing, so grab him soon.

Young Cloud Strife Action Figure: Crisis Core

This Cloud has a younger, more innocent face (very well portrayed in the action figure). He wears the uniform of an ordinary Shinra infantryman, which is why he also carries a rifle and a baton. An alternate second head wearing a helmet lets you play out the famous moment when he and Zack first meet.

Aerith Gainsborough Crisis Core Figure
Final Fantasy VII Play Arts Action Figure
Here is the unlikely princess of this saga: a down-to-earth girl living in the slums who happens to hold the key to the planet's salvation. Not that anyone knew it back then.

Aerith comes with alternate hands and a flower basket-- which now means more, since we know who suggested it. The delicate details on her sun dress add to the light, airy feel of this figure. She may seem boring when you're used to fighting monsters, but check out this sweet fan photoshoot of Aerith, Zack and Cloud (scroll down for gallery).
