Final Fantasy Fanart Made of Snow!

My Snowcobo is my favorite Final Fantasy snow sculpture, but I've made more. The most ambitious one so far was Sir Auron, a seven-foot-tall snowman brandishing a sword! Below is my gallery of Final Fantasy snow fanart.

They're not all as good as the Snowcobo and Snow Auron, of course, but I've also got Yuna and Lulu.

I do these each Christmas while visiting parents in Utah. Their neighbors are definitely intrigued, although I doubt any of them recognize the Final Fantasy characters.

If you've made a Final Fantasy snow sculpture, be sure to add a link to it below!

Final Fantasy X Snow Fanart: Auron & Lulu

By Me and Mom

Auron and LuluMy first Final Fantasy snow sculpture was a collaboration. Mom did most of Snow Lulu, and I did Snow Auron. Utah snow is usually dry and crumbly, so getting details is difficult. Also, Mom didn't quite remember what Lulu looked like. I came back and tweaked her.

Note: The sharp outlines are because I selected parts of the picture and brightened them up to bring out detail. It was a very dark day.

Original Version:

Sorry; it was after sunset when we finished!

My next project was the snow chocobo. Click the link -- it's on a separate page! But come back, because Snow Auron and Snow Yuna are still to come. :)

My Most Ambitious Final Fantasy Snow Sculpture So Far

Sometimes pictures are worth a thousand words.

Final Fantasy Snow AuronFinal Fantasy Snow Sculpture: Sir Auron

Here, I'm standing behind Snow Auron for scale. I'm short, but I'm not THAT short.

Me and Auron snow sculpture

I mostly used this screencap as a reference plus the Auron Play Arts Action Figure (this was before I bought it).

A handy tree provided a little support, but I could barely touch that arm or it would fall. That's why it has less detail than the rest. The sword is an old play-sword made of a metal ruler -- I didn't have a Masamune prop lying around!

I made most of snow Auron in the traditional way: rolling three big snowballs and stacking them. Then I packed a LOT of snow around them, and started carving with my fingers. As usual, I shape the face before attaching the head.

Snow Auron took about 5 hours. The lighting is post-sunset in the mountains with a spotlight from the house.

Final Fantasy X Fanart: Snow Yuna

"I Have Become... a Snowball"

Not quite as good as Sir Auron, but I'm proud of her obi. I didn't retouch the color: Rocky Mountain sunsets can be spectacular.

For reference I used this picture of Yuna. Yeah, I know, it's not that close.

If you were coming to this page hoping for Snow/Yuna or Snow/Auron, I apologize! Google can't tell the difference. I hope you enjoyed these Final Fantasy snow sculptures, nonetheless.

One of the things I love about Squidoo is learning something totally new. Never heard of Final Fantasy, and you have, what was it, 80 or more lenses on the topic? Wow. Your snow sculptures are gorgeous. Love the obi, almost like a butterfly. And the power in the Auron figure really comes through.

Sir Auron Action Figure

Final Fantasy X Fans: Dool!

Final Fantasy X: Auron Play Arts Action Figure

Amazon Price: $26.95 (as of 06/01/2012)Buy Now

Ooooo. I honestly try not to buy toys and things that collect dust, but I am SO tempted**. it's imported from Japan. It's poseable "with 18 points of articulation". It's a good likeness of Sir Auron. And I doubt it will be around forever. Okay, yes, I want it. Do you?

** Gave in, November 2010. Here's my Review of this Auron Action Figure, including photos. Yes, I love it.

Apparently people love Yuna even more than Auron, because this one's more expensive. Again, the detailing is beautiful. If you want action figures of OTHER characters -- Tidus, or characters from other games -- click on one of these; there's a list of all the other action figures at the bottom of each Amazon page.
