A Little Adventure into this Final Fantasy Title

Final Fantasy was the first game in the Mana series. This Final Fantasy spin-off released on the Game Boy has a different RPG style; it is an Action RPG . An Action RPG is a game where you fully control the character even during battles, but still have RPG elements such as equipment and stat points (HP, strength, defense, etc...) This difference in style is why most Final Fantasy fans reject this game as a Final Fantasy title and insist people refer to it as a Mana title.

Final Fantasy Adventure , or Seiken Densetsu: Final Fantasy Gaiden as it is called in Japan, was released in 1991 in both Japan and the US and two years later was released in Europe. The game was rereleased here in 1998. No updates were added, only that it was put back on the shelves thanks to SunSoft. Years later the game was remade and given a real Mana name - Sword of Mana.

Unlike regular final fantasy games where battles are in an alternate screen and characters take turns, characters in this game take upon dungeons with a Zelda-esque attack system, but also the ability to use magic and raise stats other than simply health. There are also more puzzles to be found here than any Final Fantasy title of the time.

Worship the music

While this was a Final Fantasy spin-off, the only song within the game to be composed by Nobuo Uematsu was the Chocobo theme song Chocobo Tanjou; the rest of the score was composed by Kenji Ito and the score was released under two albums containing , and later on both of these albums were combined to create a full 3d album.. Sword of Mana also had soundtracks released.

Similarities to Final Fantasy Games 

it was a spin-off after all

  1. Moogles are there! Kupo Kupopo!
  2. Chocobos and their theme song also make an appearance - though taken away for the Sword of Mana remake.
  3. The original game had a similar graphical style. Sword of mana was remade more in the style of recent Mana games.
