Ranked #10,090 in Games, #486,880 overall

The Legend Series Ends

Final Fantasy Legend III is the last game in the Legend Series.. This game whose Japanese name, Saga 3 Jikuu no Hasha, shows its faithfulness to the SaGa Franchise, was put in the Final Fantasy franchise due to the two previous Saga installments also being called The Final Fantasy Legend, and Final Fantasy Legend II. This happens to be the last SaGa game using this fake FFL name, and also the last SaGa game for the Game Boy. However old and last do not necessarily mean bad. This RPG well beyond its time has great graphics and sound and amazing gameplay if you consider how old it is.

The Storyline

that made this game great

Thousands of years ago, there was a raging battle over who would control Pureland. For their survival, the warriors were placed to another dimension through Talon - a ship that can go through time and space. However the masters of Pureland created a rift in space, and now you must journey through time to bring each 13 pieces of Talon back in order to restore balance.

Final Fantasy Legend III's gameplay

Pure RPG goodness packed in a game boy, what more could you ask for? Going in dungeons, walking around and beating monsters just so you can get stronger, defating bosses that threaten the world, gathering money for equipment...RPG Gold isn't it?

Also different in this game is that instead of choosing among many different character classes, your characters can change classes within the game. Instead you start out with two default classes and can change classes with meat or parts.

There were also battle changes such as Unlimited weapon usage (yay, weapons don't break anymore) and the ability to pick specific monsters within a group of monsters.

Characters and Classes

of the Final Fantasy Legend III world

This is the only Legend game that actually has "real" characters. To be more descriptive, this is the only game where you do not have have to pick your characters before playing. You are assigned characters, along with their default classes, and they actually have names!

Arthur: Human(default): This protagonist was accidentally sent to the past and lived there for ten years. But now things are about to change.. Fire Element.

Curtis: Mutant(default). Curtis is Arthur's best friend and is also from the future world. Air Element.

Gloria: Mutant(default)
These guys are weapon wielders. Water Element.

Sharon: Human(default) While Sharon did grow up with the rest of the gang, she only got to know them after their time shifting accident. In other words she's from the "present" while the other 3 are from the future. Earth Element.

There are 6 classes available, 2 of them are default classes, and a slightly different system, for this third installment.

Human - Default Class. These guys are very good with traditional weapons (like swords) especially since they have a lot of raw power, and get stronger by leveling up.

Mutant - Default Class. While they're not as physically able as the human class they are way better at magic and can even randomly learn spells on their own.

Monster - Meat Class
Monsters are naturally strong which is good considering they cannot equip armor nor weapons. They have their own innate abilities and only level up by eating more monster meat.

Beast - Meat Class

Beasts are like super Monsters. Not only are they strong but they CAN equip armor and weapons (like Punch. Basically Beast techniques you can buy). When a beast levels up it will change form to another beast.

Robot - Parts Class. These guys are worthless in magic and most stats actually but you can buy capsules that can raise their stats. If you've ever played as a human in the first game, it's basically the same class.

Cyborg - Parts Class. Cyborgs can get stronger stats and especially HP/MP by equipping items.

Note: To change a character back to a default class, simply give him/her the opposite item of his class. So let's say Sharon (a defaulted Human) is currently a Cyborg, which is a Parts class. Simply give her some Meat and she'll turn back into a Human. There is no way for a Human to become a Mutant and vice versa.

Don't change classes right after battles unless you expect to do some training as your characters will end up generally weaker .
