The Mystic Quest of doom

Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, or more infamously known as Final Fantasy USA, is a spin-off to the series that was specifically made for the United States. Back then it was believed that few americans played RPG's, and the Japanese developers thought that the reason was because the current RPG's were too hard. So they figured if they made a simple dumbed down RPG and released it, more people would play them.

However most Final Fantasy fans generally disregard this title.

A classic storyline for this spin-off

Young Benjamin is climbing the Hill of Destiny while his town is being destroyed. Upon his return an old man tells him he shall be the one from the prophecy - the one that says a Knight will defeat the four monsters who had stolen the four crystals and shall bring the world back to balance.

The game won't bite

The Mystic Quest Gameplay

There were quite a few changes to this title compared to other Final Fantasy games. First off it's that the monsters are easier to beat. Second is that you have to run into monsters instead of just having random battles appear (think Chrono Cross style). The battles themselves aren't overly different, though if you die you can just do it over instead of loading a save point and also you can only have ONE ally fighting with you..

Outside of battles, you don't just walk around a map, you have roads. If you've ever played Saga Frontier 2 or even Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles you know what I'm talking about. You just tell your character to go to the town without you actually having to walk there. You can also use weapons outside of battle in order to cut down, jump over, grapple over, and do other sorts of things to explore more areas. You can also save at ANY TIME.

The Characters

of Mystic Quest

There are 4 playable characters.

Benjamin: This is the main character who can use a lot of weapons such as swords, axes, claws, and graples.

Kaeli: An axe-wielding woman that helps Benjamin until she is poisoned

Tristam: This mercenary weilds Ninja Stars because he's a Ninja.

Reuben : He weilds a morning star

Phoebe : She uses the Cat Claw at first but then moves on to bows.

Note: You don't usually buy equipment, you find it

You don't choose what to equip either. Your character will automatically have the best current equipment equipped.

A First in Final Fantasy Music

This is the first Final Fantasy title to NOT have Nobuo Uematsu as a composer! Well I'm sure that Ryuji Sasai and Yasuhiro Kawakami did a very good job. There was also a soundtrack release on CD
