Ranked #2,009 in Games, #65,116 overall

Final Fantasy fans can now expect a new installment to the Final Fantasy series. Final Fantasy XIII by Square Enix has released preview trailers and screen shot of this game in progress. The videos and screenshots from the game circulating around the web present an array of interesting colors and artworks. Characters are rendered in fantastic details and colors, complete with flimsy, flowing hair and enigmatic facial expressions. The Final Fantasy background once again captivates us with a dream-like landscape, a perfect setting to the recent installment. Final Fantasy XII on sale initially this year in North America and Europe will be delayed. The game will first be released at Japan this year, then, hopefully at North America and Europe at 2010.

STORY
There are still plenty of details unknown about the FFXIII plot. However, like its predecessors, it will be based on the Fabula Nova Crystalis mythology. During the preview, gamers were introduced to Lightning, the female lead of FFXIII. Lightning was once a soldier of the Cocoon government but has now rebelled. Her constant companion is a green eyed girl named Oerba Dia Vanille. Vanille was banished by the religious government governing Cocoon to Pulse. Anyone believed to be influenced by Pulse is banished to the underworld. Two other characters are Snow Villiers and Sazh Katzroy. Sazh Katzroy is quite an interesting character due to his Afro and pet baby Chocobo.

COMBAT SYSTEM
Fans can expect an enhanced ATB (Active Time Battle) battle system from the Final Fantasy XIII. Developers aim to combine and enhance the battle systems within Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy XII. The game features a command-based battle system, where gamers can select commands from a command palette. The moves can be executed all at once resulting in a seamless battle sequence. Another feature is the launch command. The command sends the enemy flying into the air, allowing for more acrobatic stunts. Lightning can sense if an enemy is within the area. This gives the player an option to engage or evade an enemy.

DEVELOPMENT
The Final Fantasy XIII demo is soon to be released in Japan on March this year. Gamers are awaiting the demo release as this will reveal more in-game details. Fans of Final Fantasy are still waiting how the plot of FFXIII unfolds. The characters' individual stories, identifications and involvement within the general plot are sill unrevealed. Furthermore, much anticipation is given on the enhanced ATB battle system. Developers said that they are aiming for a synergistic story flow, motion and battle system. Expect Final Fantasy for sale in Japan within the year, though. The game will be released for the Playstation 3 platform in Japan. North America and European release would be for both the XBOX 360 and the Playstaion 3. Since the expected Final Fantasy on sale has been prolonged until next year, we could expect that the developers will not let the fans down. If the preview and trailers are any indication of the quality of the game, then we can expect more thrills and enjoyment from this recent release.
