The Death of Marilyn Monroe

Rinal resting place of one of America's favorite movie stars

Marilyn Monroe's funeral took place at 1:00pm on August 8, 1962, at the Westwood Village Mortuary Chapel on the grounds of the Westwood Memorial Cemetery. She was buried in what was known at that time as the "Cadillac of caskets" - a hermetically sealing antique-silver-finished solid bronze "masterpiece" casket lined with champagne colored satin-silk.

For the morbidly curious who like to do their siteseeing riding inside a hearse, a company called Grave Line Tours will take you on a tour to the sites of several dozen murders, suicides, accidental deaths, and celebrity funerals. Among the hearse's first stops: the hotel where rock singer Janis Joplin expired in 1970 (a taped narration, with appropriate musical accompaniment, provided graphic details of her heroin overdose) and the Chateau Marmont where comedian John Belushi died.
