How To Find A Legitimate Work-From-Home Job

Ranked #50,273 in Education, #942,889 overall

Who wouldn't like to work from home?

My guess is that at least 2/3 of the population has thought about working from home. And whenever there's something that a whole lot of people really want, guess what what  happens? The scammers come out of the woodwork. I'm sure you've been to sites that say you can make $1,000 per week by filling out online surveys, or by doing simple data entry or envelope-stuffing. Well, you know the saying: if it sounds to good to be true then it probably is. I've been working from home for several years now, and I can help you find the job that you want. Just keep reading!

The Difference Between A Work-From-Home Job And A Business

There's a huge difference between a work-at-home job and a work-at-home business, so the first thing you should do is decide which you're interested in pursuing.

Regarding the work itself, a work-at-home job involves doing more or less the same thing that you'd be doing in an office away from home--data entry, customer service, telephone sales, consulting, putting together spreadsheets, etc. The work itself isn't any easier because you're working from home. But you have more personal freedom. You can make your own schedule, to a degree, as long as you get your work done. You don't have to commute or dress up for work. And you don't have to interact with people who you don't get along with. If you have a work-at-home job then you're not working for yourself because you're still an employee (or an independent contractor) of a company that gives you a paycheck.

A work-at-home business is completely different. This is more like having your own business. It can be any kind of business, but almost certainly you'd have to find your own customers, do your own marketing and possibly hire people. This can be very profitable and extremely gratifying, but it involves much more work, longer hours and a lot of stress and frustrations along the way.

So which do you want to do? It all depends on your personality, your strengths and your weaknesses. I've had experience with both. I've had three work-at-home jobs and I also helped a friend of mine run her own work-at-home business (a mobile technology website which, sadly, no longer exists). But I'm more experienced at work-at-home jobs, so that's what this site is about.

There's one more thing you should understand. If you do a search for 'working from home' or 'make money from home', then what do you think you'll find? My guess is that you already know. You'll find scams. Survey scams, multi-level scams, internet marketing scams, etc. Most of them are cleverly disguised as work-at-home jobs and/or businesses, but their only purpose is to separate people from their money. And the people behind these scams are making a ton of money by pushing their questionable products. Don't fall for them! If something sounds to good to be true then it probably is. I've fallen for some of these scams myself, and that's because I didn't trust that little voice in the back of my mind that told me I was making a mistake.

Self-disciplined, Organized, Focused

Working from home isn't for everyone. If you have a hard time getting up in the morning then you really need to work on that. If you're easily distracted by television or other things around you then you'll have to work on that too. If you're home is a mess and it takes you an hour to find anything then you need to get organized. If you get claustrophobic when you're inside for too long then, well, you get the idea. My guess is that you have at least one of these characteristics every now and then, because most people do. So work on it, it's not that hard if you put your mind to it. The short version is that you need to be Self-disciplined, organized and focused.

Keeping your Work & Personal Lives Seperate

Almost no one wants to be totally consumed by their job. I'm sure you have personal interests and hobbies that are completely unrelated to your occupation, and you value the time that you can devote to them (to me, it's photography and reading Ray Bradbury). This is normal, healthy and a very balanced way of living. If you have a normal 9-5 job then it's usually easy to keep your work and personal lives seperate. But this can be very dificult if you're working from home. Many people don't understand this until they're allready working from home. I can't blame people for not understanding this because it's a very subtle thing. But if you do understand it before-hand you'll be ahead of the game. My point is this: if there's a physical separation between your home and your job, it's fairly easy to maintain a psychological separation too--and this allows you to occupy yourself with other things at home without always thinking and worrying about work. If there's no physical separation between the two, then it can be very hard to stop worrying about work when you're finished for the day and are trying to relax.

Conclusion

I bet you didn't expect to hear these things when you first came to this site, right? You probably thought it would be like lots of other sites that tell you how much money you can make in your sleep, or that promise you thousands of dollars per week by filling out online surveys. My only goal with this site is help people who want to work from home, so that's why Im being so realistic. There are advantages and disadvantages to working from home, but if you prepare youself with the right mind-set you're sure to succeed.

MY FAVORITE RESOURCE FOR FINDING A WORK-AT-HOME JOB

This is an ebook called "How To Survive Finacialy As A Stay-At-Home Mom". But don't let the title deceive you. It doesn't matter weather you're a mom or a dad, single or married--this ebook is equally valuable to all. The author leads you through the process of finding a work-at-home job, giving you many tips and insights that can only come from experience. Then she lists over three hundred completely legtimate companies that you can apply for. Most of these companies are hiring for entry-level positions in customer service, data entry, transcribing, proofreeding, etc. Others require a certain level of prior experience. But no matter what your skills are, you will be able to find something with at least one of the companies listed. None of these companies require a fee to apply or to work for them (no legit company will). Without this ebook it it would take you a least a few months of research and networking to find all of these companies. I could go on and on about how great this ebook is, but the bottom line is that you will not be disapointed in it. It's also very affordabe-it's under $10, and it comes with a money-back guarantee. I didn't write this ebook myself (obviously, since I'm a single guy), but I believe in it so much that I'll make you this promise: If you don't like it, and if you have a hard time getting a refund, then I'll pay you back myself. How's that standing up for something you believe in?

ANOTHER RESOURCE

One of my favorite sites for finding legit work-at-home jobs is www.guru.com. I joined this site abut three years ago and so far I've completed about a dozen short-term projects (they were mostly data entry). You can join the site for free, but free members can only bid on one category of projects. Only paid members can bid on any project that they see listed. And by the way, I'm calling them projects instead of jobs because most of the listings are for short-term things. You should join as a free member first just to get your feet wet and learn how it works. Later on you can decide weather or not you want to pay.
