So, where are those cheap bankruptcy lawyers hiding?

I've included some instructions on how to use each resource listed below.

Online Resource #1: www.BankruptcyLawyersAndAttorneys.com

This plain looking website actually has a good compilation of online bankrupcy resources. When you visit the main page click on the "USA Bankruptcy Search" tab located on the top of the page. Locate the custom search form by scrolling at the middle section of the page. Type in your search query and don't forget to add your hometown, state, or ZIP code to the search term. Press "Enter" or click the "Search" button. The custom search engine will give you a result similar to Google. You need to click the "Lawyer Directory" under the "Refine results" section. This should filter the search results to get it from the lawyer directory websites only.

Online Resource #2: www.martindale.com

This is the online version of Martindale-Hubbell comprehensive directory of lawyers. Use the "Lawyer Locator" to search their online database. Leave the names and law firm blank since you are not looking for a particular lawyer. Type in your city under the "City" field and select your state. Don't forget to change the country to "United States". Under the "Areas of Practice" select bankruptcy. Click the "GO" button and you should have your list of bankruptcy lawyers. If the results are too few, then you can widen your search criteria by removing the city on the search form. You can also use the adjacent cities near you.

Online Resource #3: www.lawyers.com

This is LexisNexis' online version of Martindale-Hubbell comprehensive lawyer directory. Use the "Lawyer Search" to find an attorney from over one million lawyers and law firms in their searchable database. Under the "Lawyer/Law Firm or Area of Law" search field type in 'bankruptcy'. Type your city under the "City" box and select your state. Remember to change the country to "United States". Click the "GO" button and you should have your result of bankruptcy lawyers. If the results are too little, then you can widen your search criteria by removing the city on the search form. You can also use the adjacent towns near you. Make sure that you select lawyers or law firms that handle consumer bankruptcy.

Online Resource #4: lawyers.findlaw.com

This is the online version of Thomson Reuters' West Legal Directory of lawyers. Use the "Search for a Lawyer" to query their online database. Under the "Legal Issue" input field type in 'bankruptcy'. Type in your city under the "Location" box. Remember to include your state and zip code. It will make the search results more accurate. Press "Enter" or click the "Find lawyers" button. You will then be presented with a list of bankruptcy attorneys. If the results are too little, then you can widen your search criteria by removing the city on the search field. You can also use the adjacent towns close to you. Take note of the entries that have "offers free consultation" mark. They are the lawyers that you should prioritize on your list.

Online Resource #5: maps.google.com

After using the above resources your next step is to use Google Maps. Simply type in the name and address of the bankruptcy lawyer that you have selected to view their location. Google Maps is very useful in getting directions if you don't know how to get to your destination.
