Find Shamanism Anywhere
...And Everywhere!
In this high-rise, maze-gridded world shamanism is alive and well in every field of human endeavor and shamans are living and shifting life for the better in every neighborhood. Most modern shamans are known by another word besides (or instead of) 'shaman' and this is to be expected.
I practice everyday shamanic shifting as a neighborhood (and universal) shamanizer on the east side of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and on the Internet.
The word 'shaman' has been popularized by anthropologists studying aboriginal tribal cultures and religions. But among the peoples anthropologists were studying few shamans were or are called shamans.
Shaman, shamanic, and shamanism - like most words - have many changing meanings and will always be problematic because these s-words were superimposed generally and anachronistically, for the sake of convenience, by scholars and researchers upon too huge and diverse a set of (shamanic) functions to sum up in one word. Shamanism is too widespread, age-old, and global a set of purposeful reality shifting ways to be a proper '-ism' at all.
I continue to use the s-words (and even the -ism, now and then) because, I've learned though experience over the years, that coining new words - as fun as it is and educational as it can be - usually causes mostly unproductive energy-drains into confusions and distractions when it comes to shamanic ways. So I switched to a small 's' and press on with shamanizing.
Finding shamanism is easy once the word 'shaman' is demystified or set aside. Look for amazing reality shifts, tiny to gigantic, happening at the frontiers and fringes of life on earth and you will probably find some kind of shamanism at the center of it.

Where to Seek...
And FIND shamanism and shamans in this day and age
The most powerful shamans may be hidden in plain sight or in the shadows, near by or far away. As shamanic ways begin to resonate within you, more and more shamans may start showing!

I'll keep adding to this list of where and how I have found shamanism and shamans in my world:

I'll keep adding to this list of where and how I have found shamanism and shamans in my world:
- Among the homeless - the rare few who practice homelessness on purpose
- Among school teachers and college professors - not necessarily the most popular
- Among 'outsider artists' - or maybe I mean among outsider outsider artists
- This is just a beginning...I'll add more soon!

Finding Shamanism Everywhere & Anywhere Links
I'll be seeking & finding links on the the themes of this lens!
This lens is about finding shamanism and shamans amid everyday situations and embedded throughout modern society. It isn't so much about finding the 'shamanic practitioners' or shamanism workshops presenters, whether contemporary or traditional, who advertise. (For links to a wide diversity of shamanic teachers and healers check the sidebar at the Shamanic Ways Links Project website.)
