Find Truck Drivers

Truck Driver Leasing - a Growing Trend

Companies are looking for ways to cut costs and one of these ways is to outsource many of their business activities so that they can focus on their main skill. For larger companies that are in the heavier industries, like manufacturing, they are outsourcing their trucking needs, or leasing truck drivers. Instead of hiring drivers to haul their goods, they look for companies that lease truck drivers. There are many reasons why a company would want to lease drivers instead of hiring them outright. Some of these reasons include:

- Don't have to go through the process of hiring truck drivers

- You can get specialized drivers for specific assignments (experience with specific types of cargo and type of truck needed)

- You don't have to pay the cost of long term benefits and pensions

- You can have an outside company guarantee your shipments

- You only pay for truck drivers when you have actual shipments and not when you are parking your trucks

- You don't have to get caught up with the problem of the shortage of truck drivers that is out there

What you should look for when leasing truck drivers

When using a company to staff truck drivers for your needs, there are several things that you should look for before you decide on a particular company. Here are the following things you should ask your truck driver staffing agency.

- Do their drivers exceed DOT requirements - The more qualified and experienced the drivers are, the less you will have to worry about your shipments.

- Do their drivers get trained on your company specific needs before leasing - You will want a driver that is already familiar with your paperwork, will have knowledge of your products, truck types and equipment before hiring so the drivers are ready to work when they arrive.

- How soon can they dispatch drivers? - Can you get your drivers the next day? How many drivers can you get?

- Does the company keep up with safety standards of their drivers on a regular basis?

- Does their company provide a number of different services to transport your products safely - services like tarping, roll-off, Hazmat, drop and hook, unloading,

- Is their company able to handle a number of different types of vehicles? - Flat bed, dry van, over-sized loads, doubles, extension trailers.

- What kind of leasing options are available? - Does the company have full service truck driver leasing? A Lease to Hire program? Casual or temporary emergency coverage? What options are available?

- Does the company provide logistical support personnel as well such as fork lift operators, dispatchers, billing clerks, floor supervisors, etc?

Some Truck Driver Leasing companies also provide consulting services as well so companies can keep ahead of their competition by making there back end systems more efficient and compliant. These services include:

D.O.T. Driver Qualification File Requirement Training
D.O.T. File Maintenance and Procedure Training
Alcohol & Drug Testing, Training, Record keeping, and Policy Development
HazMat Transportation and Certification Training
Customs/Border Crossing Compliance Training
I-9 Compliance Seminars
"Maximizing CDL-Driver Retention" seminars
