Want Some Insider Knowledge?
I have been a Recruitment Manager for a large international company for over 12 years. This company has its headquarters in the UK but employs over 2000 people worldwide. As such I believe I am in the ideal position to let you know what companies are really looking for and how to find vacancies and approach the application, interview and offer process.
I think many people come to hate job-hunting, but it honestly doesn't have to be the agony that we sometimes create it to be in our own minds. Over the years I have interviewed a great many people and there are a number of things that it is key to remembering when you are putting together your Resume or CV and going for the interview. Things that if implemented can make the whole process a lot easier and more enjoyable.
My aim is to bring you all the best tips and tricks to get you in the role that is best suited for you and in which you have the most to offer. It is true that we are currently in difficult economic times but that doesn't mean that you should be down-hearted, there is still plenty of opportunity out there for those who are flexible, determined and armed with the right knowledge.

How To Start Finding Your Dream Job
Make Your Resume Stand Out
There is an old saying, "you don't get a second chance to make a first impression." Well, when applying for a job, your resume is your first impression. No matter how qualified you are or how well you perform in interviews, you will not get the job unless you get the employer to take a closer look at your resume. When you are putting together your resume, remember that essentially you are making an advertisement of yourself. Make it evident to the employer that if they select you, they will get all of the benefits that you have highlighted in the resume. They need to feel confident that if they select you, you will have what it takes to be successful at the position they are hiring for. Be sure to elaborate further on any skills you have that are pertinent to the job you are applying for. You want them to know that you are able to exceed all of their expectations.
When writing your resume, go with the approach that you are writing to get a phone call from the employer, don't just look at it as documentation of all of your past accomplishments and qualifications. If you take this approach, it will make your product look very different drom all those other resumes landing on the boss's desk. The main goal of the resume is to greate interest and thus to receive a phone call and ultimately, an interview.
It is important not to lie on your resume. If you do not have all of the qualifications listed for a job, do not let that deter you. Stress to the employer why you can overcome these shortcomings and still be the best candidate for the job. It is very possible that the employer will notice your determination and decide that though you might not have the experience, you are still a worthy candidate for employment.
Do not limit the skills listed in your resume only to the specific industry you are working in. You want your list of experiences to be comprehensive, covering everything that can help you obtain a job. Do not use jargon in your resume. You want it to be filled with substance, not flash, and using jargon can give your employer the impression that your resume is filled with self-hype.
By putting a little extra time into your resume, you can build one that makes you stand out from all the other potential candidates. Surprisingly, very few resumes are created with the sole purpose of provoking interest from the employer. Most resumes only get looked at for a brief amount of time. Your resume will get read from beginning to end if you are able to generate substantial interest throughout the body of the resume.

Interviews: Some Top Do's & Dont's
It is important for your career going forward to become comfortable in an interview setting. If you are not comfortable at interview, it will be difficult to obtain a quality position within a company. The employers will assume that if you cannot handle an interview, then how will you handle the full responsibilities of the position they are offering. Now, let's take a look at what employers are looking for. One of the most important traits in an employee that the employer is looking for is a positive attitude. Come in to the room with a smile and an eager handshake. Give the interviewer the impression that you are very excited about this interview and the position with their company.
Be sure to express interest in the position, as well as interest in the company. Make sure to do some research about the company and the position you are applying for. This will be especially helpful when you are asked the question, "why do you want to work for us?" and this is a question you can almost always expect to be asked.
If possible, try to find out about the interviewer beforehand. If you are referred to this job by a friend that already has a position with the company, make sure to ask him or her questions about the interviewer. Get some tips about what the interviewer likes to hear. Obviously, do not go in and say exactly what you were told but use this blueprint of a successful interview, and enhance it. It is not possible for everyone to find out about the interviewer, but if you are able to do so, by all means, take advantage of it.
Be prepared to ask questions at the interview. This shows the interviewer that you are not just there because it is necessary in order to get a job. You are there because you have genuine interest in the company and also in becoming an employee for this company.
One obvious thing that employees are looking for is how you dress. To be on the safe side, be sure to never underdress. It is much better to be overdressed. This way the employer knows you take the opportunity with their company very seriously.
When the interviewer is asking you questions, do not give them one word answers, even if you have no experience in what they are questioning you about. Giving a response that is short, such as, "No, I haven't" is not acceptable. Say something like, "I have very similar experience to that and I feel those experiences would be very beneficial for me at this position."
When the interview is finishing up, it is important to close out strong, because this is often how the interviewer will remember you. Let them know how excited you are about potentially working with the company. Find out what the next step is in the hiring process. Let them know that you are able to excel at their company, and that you are very eager to receive an offer. Remember, your number one goal is to get a job offer. As you are leaving, thank them for their time, and let them know how much you would enjoy working with them personally.
