Houston, Are We Receiving?

Let's see if we're connecting — you're here because you want a baby shower invitation, stat. You want it to look pretty cool, since you probably deeply care for that woman you're throwing the shower for, and you don't want to look like a dork. And finally, you want it to be free.

Also — you want the silly thing to print without having to sign up for two years of design school, buy a new printer, or translate the whole project to 'Kinko-ese" for the benefit of a bored 17-year-old employee. You want the goods. If they even exist. Well, let's find out!

Free Baby Shower Invitations and How They Stack Up

Straight to the Juice!

We're not going to mess around here. We're going to provide some links, and rate them ourselves for ease of use, design chops, and so on. Then at the end, you can rate them YOURSELF, which is even better. In the meantime, here's some cupcake cuteness to get you in the mood.

Presenting ... The Cards!

If you just search around, a lot of "free baby shower cards" are fakes. Turns out when you click the link they're not free at all. Or sometimes, one sort of plain and boring card is free, but for everything else you gotta pay up. We'll try to sort these out for you so you can go straight to the good stuff.
Happy Greetings Printable Baby Shower Cards
This site currently offers four totally free card designs.

Some pros: These are quarter-fold designs, and it's nice that they have an inside design as well as a cover design. It's a PDF, not a Word document, so you just print and go.

Some cons: the designs are a little sugary (or maybe even dated), a copyright notice and a few ads are plastered on the back of the card, the selection's small, and they can't be personalized at all, so you'll have to hand-write the info.

Moms Break - Free Baby Shower Printables
This site currently offers a number of card designs with cute, more modern images, which can be folded different ways.

Some pros: The site owner cleverly offers PDF files you can personalize before you print them out. Brilliant! It saves a lot of time compared to mucking around in MS Word with someone else's file.

Some cons: the site is laid out like a blog. There is no simple way to see all designs at a glance, and wording suggestions and general baby shower tips are jumbled in with the templates. In fact, it is actually pretty darn hard to tell how many templates she has. You'll probably also hunt around before you find the link to actually print the template (though it really does exist!)

Baby Shower Invitations by "Plan the Perfect Baby Shower"
Ooh, jackpot! This site offers about 20 distinct invitation styles which are crisp, clean and well designed.

Some pros: Really cute! These cards are definitely as sweet as some you'd find at the store.

Some cons: You'll have to muddle around in a word processor to make the most of these. Best idea: import into MS word and create text fields on top of these, so you can personalize them before printing. For a few more designs that are strikingly similar, see here.

Baby Shower Printables by Family Shopping Bag
This site offers about 25 distinct designs that usually break down into quarter-fold style cards.

Some pros: A nice variety, not just the same design in slightly different colors like you might find elsewhere. Some of these are really cute! Plus, this page also has some shower signs and gift tag templates ... can't beat that!

Some cons: If you want to personalize the info before you print them out, you'll have to insert them into MS Word or Publisher and add your own text fields.

Baby Shower Invitations by Baby Showers Revealed
Unbelievably hot cards! I was knocked out when I saw this site ... I couldn't believe the cards were really free.

Some pros: These cards are so freakin' cute, they're really in a design class of their own. Even better: they're editable PDFs, so you can insert all your wording right on the page and then print them straight out.

Some cons: This looks like a fairly new site, and at 11 designs there's not a lot of variety yet ... but the choices seem to be growing, and they take requests!
