The Bible
A recipe book from GOD!
Recipe: anything proposed as a remedy, for doing something or instructions producing desired results.
The Bible: the sacred book of Christianity derived from the Greek word Biblos translated in English 'The Book'. Or as simple as one of the deacons from my church puts it BIBLE: Basic, Instructions, Before, Leaving, Earth.
We as humans are always on the lookout for something better; something more. Something to fulfill us, or something to help us forget the past or present. Could it be we're all suffering from the same unreality, where things mean more than substance? We have a terrible case of the, 'I need more Syndrome!' And, a curable disease called the, me, me, me's! Self-righteousness always leads to damnation- death.
You have tried it all, and the Jones' have still done it better. You are still left alone with YOU, and this massive feeling of emptiness- life is just too hard. So what does the average person in turmoil reside to do? They use their final measure and fall on their knees, pleading "Father God, Help Me!" You go to the creator of the recipe!
God wants for us to seek him with the same passion and persistence we use when we are on the hunt for something better. Reality is, there is nothing better than God.
In true life, (righteousness) we have already obtained the perfect recipe (instructions), but we're so busy reaching for the untouchable life (self-righteousness) that we cannot see the forest (God) from the trees (the world). The bible, just as a basic recipe, already contains all of the ingredients and the answer (God) for a perfect product (You).
The bible is direct communication from God himself. The challenge is in how we apply the knowledge. Are we going to omit things we believe are not needed or applied to us? Are we going to add to the bible things that we think will accommodate our lives?
The answers to life are obtained by living according to your word. Psalm 119:9.
That is making a positive decision, remaining faithful to God's written Word for the rest of our lives. If you are going to bake the cake, make sure you read the recipe first.
As a beginner in Christ, I often found it complicated to read and understand the bible; especially the King James Version. Oh my goodness! What year was this written in?! I needed God, and prayer was for the relationship.
I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. Psalm 119:15.
Why So Many Versions? www.bible.org/article/why-so-many-versions
First let me say that - All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 2 Timothy 3:16 NIV
How did the King James get dethroned? Which translation is best today? Are any of the modern translations really faithful to the original?
These three differences--textual, informational, philosophical--have been the parents of a new generation of Bible translations. But are these translations any good? Are they any better than the King James?
I would suggest that each English-speaking Christian own at least a NASB or RSV and an NIV. As well, I think it would be helpful to possess a King James and even a New English Bible. And then, make sure that you read the book!
For more information on the different translations of the bible and why the different versions exist read this study by: Daniel B. Wallace

For a great Valentine's Day treat!
Cannoli Whoopie pies
Ingredients
- For the Cookies:
- 2 sticks unsalted butter
- cut into pieces and at room temperature
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
- 3 tablespoons whole milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup mini semisweet chocolate chips (optional)
- For the Filling:
- 1 1/2 cups chopped roasted unsalted pistachios
- 1 1/2 cups (12 ounces) mascarpone cheese
- 3/4 cup ricotta cheese
- 1 1/2 cups confectioners' sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
Make the cookies: Beat the butter and both sugars with a mixer until creamy. Beat in the milk and vanilla until combined. In a medium bowl, whisk the flour, cocoa, salt and baking soda. With the mixer on low speed, slowly add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and beat until combined. Stir in the chocolate chips, if desired. Scoop the dough onto a sheet of wax paper
and shape into a 2-inch-thick log. Wrap in the wax paper and refrigerate at least 2 hours or overnight.
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Slice the dough into 1/3-inch-thick rounds with a sharp knife. Place on the prepared baking sheet and bake 10 minutes. Cool the cookies for a few minutes on the baking sheet, then transfer to a rack to cool completely.
Meanwhile, make the filling: Combine 3/4 cup pistachios, the mascarpone, ricotta, confectioners' sugar, vanilla and salt with a mixer on low speed until just blended; do not overmix or the filling will be too thick. (It can be prepared a day ahead and refrigerated.)
To assemble, sandwich about 1/2 inch filling between 2 cookies. Repeat with the remaining cookies and filling. Roll the edges in the remaining 3/4 cup pistachios.

which e-reader do you prefer?
Shopping for an e-book reader? At first glance, the task seems daunting--there are more choices than ever before. The good news is that the list of worthwhile choices is actually pretty short. The other good news? Prices and features are better than ever.

Sometimes we wonder,
'What did I do to deserve this?' or
'Why did God have to do this to me?'
Here is a wonderful explanation!
A daughter is telling her Mother how everything
is going wrong, she's failing algebra, her boyfriend
broke up with her and her best friend is moving away.
Meanwhile, her Mother is baking a cake and
asks her daughter if she would like a snack, and the
daughter says, 'Absolutely Mom, I love your cake.'
'Here, have some cooking oil,' her Mother offers.
'Yuck' says her daughter..
'How about a couple raw eggs?' 'Gross, Mom!'
'Would you like some flour then?
Or maybe baking soda?'
'Mom, those are all yucky!'
To which the mother replies:
'Yes, all those things seem bad all by themselves.
But when they are put together in the
right way, they make a wonderfully delicious cake! '
God works the same way. Many times we wonder why
He would let us go through such bad and difficult
times. But God knows that when He puts these things
all in His order, they always work for good! We just
have to trust Him and, eventually, they will all
make something wonderful!
God is crazy about you.
He sends you flowers every spring and
a sunrise every morning.
Whenever you want to talk, He'll listen.
He can live anywhere in the universe,
and He chose your heart.
If you like this, send this on
to the people you really care about.
Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are
here we might as well dance!
