The best for the least!

I solve computer problems for small businesses and individuals. Friends and customers ask me about finding the best prices for PC's and components. I love finding the best deals for them and for myself.

So, how do I find the best deal?.

This is the story.

Where do I start?

I go online.

Finding the deal is more art than science. No one site or store always has the best price. The best deals change from day to day.

Lots of help is available. As you search, keep a list of the best prices. Just print the screen and paste the page into a Word document. Make a spreadsheet with the item, price and who has the deal. Believe me you will forget.

If you have to have it today, you are not likely to find the best deal. The sites below are the ones where I start my searches.

How do choose a brand?

I assume you have a product in mind. If you don't have a brand in mind, here are some sites that can help.

Search for product recommendations.

For general reviews, start with cnet, PCWorld or PC Magazine.

For more technical reviews, check Tom's Hardware.

What do I do now that I have a brand and maybe a model?

You now have a brand and probably a model picked out. Maybe several, the choice depending on the best price. Now the fun begins on checking prices.

Check TechBargains.

Check PriceWatch.

Check eBay.

Check craigslist.

Check your local weekly ads. See the Sales Circular, an on-line list of all your local Sunday paper ads.

Search until you are satisfied. Consider how much time will you spend to save a dollar. Remember driving 20 miles to save a dollar is no savings.

Let's roll!
