You Can Employ Yourself by Writing a Comment Here! (At Least it Gets Your Name Out There!)

But keep it nice. No Spamming! No Junk. We Only Accept the "Best Candidates" (Have we heard that before?)

From the lens Unemployment - From the Other Side of the HR Desk.

If you like this Squidoo lens and you are currently unemployed, you might consider also posting a "mini-resume" of the type of job you are looking for and if you have a Twitter or Linked-In account for folks more interested in contacting you about the position. Be careful what you put there (because you never know where the nut-cases will come from), but you are welcome to add more "Google Search" material here to get your name a "higher-ranking" in the search engines for that position. (Just a thought!)

My husband is an aspiring writer/editor. He would much rather research and write about something than perform any other activity. I just wish he could make this passion lucrative. I asked him one time if he thought he could be a freelance writer. He would like that very much but doesn't know where to begin.

Your lens is both informative and helpful. Sadly these are rocky days, counting on a job for life has long gone and now you can't even count on a job at all except for those your create yourself.

A very important topic Dave. Many readers will have no doubt experienced the things you talk about. In my experience a period of extended and un-wished for unemployment often becomes a transformative experience. There is a risk that reliance on employment agents to be 'on your side' will result in disappointment as really they are about very precise square hole in very precise square pegs and are not really interested in your overall talent an potential. Be wary of the myth of psychometric tests too. They should never be taken as an indication of your capability and potential.

Love your lens -- and I like the blog-like, personalized feel of it. You are so very correct -- never give out a SS# to someone over the Internet. I nearly got "scammed" like that recently. I can't believe some of the outrageous things that scammers are doing to collect info these days!
