Birds on Bright Water: Selling my Artwork

I'm an artist, albeit an artist with a camera.

One of the greatest joys is to sell your artwork. This is where the print on demand companies, Zazzle.com and RedBubble.com, come into their own. With no financial outlay, and a little digital work, you have quality products ready to share worldwide. The company's take all the pressure off by producing and distributing your finished work. All you need to do is collect your profits. But apart from that, it is also great fun, it's another part of the creative process and it is extremely satisfying to see your work online.

I finally permitted myself to claim the title of artist when I went to have my first photographs printed. When I saw them I was staggered to see they looked nothing like they did on my screen, or in my head for that matter. I said as much to the printer who told me, 'oh I didn't like the colours so I changed them for you.' That made them HIS photographs not mine - needless to say I didn't accept them and we now have an understanding that he just prints them and leaves the artistic interpretation to me.

On this lens, I wanted to share some of my enthusism for a particular series of photographs I have been working on. 'Birds on Bright Water' came about when I decided to buck convention and not crop and frame the birds I was photographing. For me, the water is as much a part of the picture as the wildlife, sometimes even more so. I am delighted by the way water is constantly changing depending on light and what is around it. Because these photographs are taken on the Leed to Liverpool canal, it means there are often pretty narrow-boats around to lend their colour to the water. This is what can result.

Please pass on this lens to your friends - I need to make more friends around the world! Blessings.

'Fowl Tales' in words and pictures

I am fascinated by birds, but I don't want to just photography them - I want to know why they do the things they do. For me this is bird observation, bird watching at its best.
Did YOU know, for example, that geese pluck the down from their undercarriage to line their nests? Don't believe me - see the proof in pictures in The Goose Who Came For Dinner.

Did you know young geese can do canoe rolls, seemingly just for the joy of playing in water? See the proof of one Springdiddly goose in Signs of Spring in the Goose World.

Did you know two female feral geese will lay eggs in the same nest when they are mated to the same male? See the proof in Three to a Nest.

I hope you visit and share my enthusism and pleasure in my bird pictures.

Bird Watching: Bizarre Bird Behaviour: Three Geese, One Nest
Near Bingley in West Yorkshire domestic geese have gone wild and now form a flock of about 60 birds. On a stretch of the Leeds to Liverpool canal, there are at least ten (10) goose nests within sight of the...
Signs of Spring in the Goose World
Some geese are content with a quick dunk and a bit of a preen but this youngster put his heart and soul into his evening bath. Perhaps it was a sign of spring and the joy of sunshine after the long winter,...
Muscovy Ducks on Bingley Canal
One could be forgiven for thinking one had been transported to Mexico yesterday when these two ducks were spotted on Bingley canal in West Yorkshire, England. They are Muscovy ducks, not native to England, but...

These are great images! The mallard photos remind me of our childhood home, where the mama ducks would nest in the yard and bring their liitle chicks to eat cracked corn and pieces of bread. Continued success!

I love your birds on bright water series of photographs that you included here. The duckling facing the camera (one of the first ones) is my favorite so far.

What I love about cameras these days, is that you can get some that produce amazing quality pictures that are small enough to tuck into a pocket or in your purse.

I love the way you have taken "bright water" as a theme to group these pictures - which came first the idea for the them or did you take the pics and then realise you had a theme?
