Cork or Screw Top

Which do you think is best

This is probably one of the most contentious issues in the wine world today. What do you think - and why......

The corks will be sadly missed in our household. For a number of years we saved ours for a friend who made floral arrangements. Part of me now wishes we would have saved some for ourselves.

I like to save the corks on special occasions but most of the wines now have a screw top and they are not quite a nice to save.
Fantastic 5 star lens!

I love corks and have hundreds of them in various containers. One day I will do an entire wall of corks. Some wines have screwtops that are disguised a bit, so it doesn't seem like you're drinking Annie Green Springs!

The traditionalist in me loves pulling the cork from a bottle of good wine - but I don't expect to be doing so for much longer. With a spoilage rate of around 10% due to problem corks producers are turning to alternatives, generally screwtops which don't appear to have a negative effect on the wine.

Hi Flaminglacer - I love a great wine! I enjoy the 'old world' wines, as well as the 'new world' ones. Right now some of my favourites come from Australia, South Africa and California. I've heard great things about the Portuguese wine too Jonitas. Great Lens, thanks. 5*

A sizzling site for snooty sniffers and sippers!

My three favorite wines are: "Two Left Feet", "Blasted Church" and the "Church Mouse", (all made in beautiful British Columbia), Canada.

Will definitely be a great resource for when I'm old enough to drink alcohol. I've always wanted to try wine, and I definitely did not want to try cheap wine that will turn me off to wine! 5 stars!

What I'm drinking at the moment

Brief comments on wines I'm currently enjoying

Casa Piedra Alta Viognier 2005
Laithwaites Price £6.17 per bottle (Case Price)

Viognier is probably my favourite white grape variety and is currently being heralded by many wine commentators as the 'new Chardonnay' - personally it's no contest, I'd take Viognier every time!

The home of Viognier is the Rhône but it does extremely well in the Andes, and this wine is one of the best. It is rich and quite sumptuous with honeysuckle and ripe peaches on the nose with bucketloads of ripe fruit flavours in the mouth. It is a dry but well rounded wine that will drink well for at least a couple of years we are assured. 12.5% abv makes it a pleasant aperitif and it goes very well with soft cheeses such as Brie and Camembert - though I would avoid the sharper Goat's cheeses.

Whilst there are some much cheaper Viogniers around this Silver Medal Winner takes the prize for me.

Which Wine Producing Area Will You Visit Next?

Straight from the Vineyard

I love to visit the Vineyards and see where the wine is produced, meet the growers and gain a greater understanding of the wines themselves. My favourite Wines are French so I'd head there, starting in the South and heading North
