Before you move your child from their crib to a toddler bed, think of some of the safety factors that should be looked at.

-Be sure to choose a bed that is low to the ground to minimize harm if they fall out of their bed. ( I know I rolled a lot and fell out a number of times).
-If there are no safety rails attached to the bed, be sure to purchase an adjustable bed safety rail system that fits between the mattress and the base on both sides of the bed
-Chosse your toddler bed location wisely. Be sure it is placed away from windows, doors, radiator/heating vents, cords (electrical or blinds) to avoid choking hazards.
-Be sure that any bed (old or new) is constructed or painted with non-toxic products, especially older pieces, as newer, name brand products are generally made with safe paints and structures.
- Check to see that any toddler product meets some form of standard. Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) is one certification to look for. JPMA make sure that products meet the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards.

How should you go about creating your very own Fire Engine Bedroom?

To start, the easiest method is to find a paint color that matches up with the Fire Engine Bed. Secondly, pick out a fireman/ firetruck themed border. Wall paper is another way to go, but it is more permanent than paint. If you decide to change decor, it is simpler to just paint over the walls.

Now is the time to look at dcorating the walls. There are some great peel and stick decals and murals that are Fire Truck themed. These are usually removable and can be moved and reapplied. There are framed pictures, plaques and posters that can be hung on the bedroom wall.

What should you be looking for when you are planning on purchasing a toddler bed mattress?

Should I buy a soft or firm crib and toddler mattress? For an adult, a soft mattress is a fantastic choice. But for a child , a more solid sleep surface is preferable.

Coil mattress or foam mattress? It does not really matter. Just be sure that the foam mattress is not too soft. With a coil mattress, usually the more coils in the mattress, the firmer the mattress will be.

What about the mattress cover? Look for a multi layered cover, which are usually more durable and protect the mattress from wear and tear. If you are concerned about allergies be sure that you purchase a fully sealed mattress. Some will come with an anti-microbial layer, this will aid in controlling germs.

JPMA certified? If you're concerned about quality, check to see if the toddler bed mattress manufacturer is a member of the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association. Companies that are involved with JPMA have to meet certain professional and quality standards for their products to be in good standing with this industry organization.
