Firefox Web Browser

Ranked #787 in Internet, #39,586 overall

The Best and Fastest Web Browser for me: Firefox

Do you know why I love Firefox among others? These are the reasons:

1. Firefox is second to the Internet Explorer when it comes to the year of creation.
2. Firefox is stable and free to download.
3. Firefox offers a secured as well as safe browsing experience.
4. Firefox can be customized (themes, add-ons, etc) the way you want.
5. Firefox is now on version 4 (now, it's 12!) which is far from zero.
6. and Firefox lets you to be his boss.

These are some of the reasons I have and there's still more.

Where to Download Firefox 4?

Firefox official site

This is where I got my Firefox web browser Mozilla Firefox Download Page or if you already have firefox browser just update it under one of the menu options (which I'll discuss on this lens later).

Have a happy and wonderful experience with the new Firefox 4. :)

By the way, the picture next to my post is the current look of their site. See the web browser I am using, it is the latest Firefox 4.

Update: Clicking the above link will offer you to download Firefox 12 since it is the latest version. There's nothing wrong with it whether it is 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12 coz each of them offer almost the same functionalities and features (maybe there are minor changes).

How to Update Your Outdated Firefox into Firefox 4?

Easy as pie

I used Firefox 3.6.17 in this screenshot. And the file size of Firefox 4 is 15.4 MB (which we are going to download in this post).

The topic is the answer to the thing I promised you on my first post, "how to update your outdated firefox browser into the newest and latest Firefox 4?". Lets begin by following the listed steps below:

a. Click 'Help' at the upper right side of your web browser (one of the menu options).
b. Highlight and click "Check for Updates...".

After you click it, a new window appears (Software Update) it will ask you if you want to upgrade to Firefox 4.0.1. In responding to it, you would find three buttons at the lower part of the window: "Ask Later", "No Thanks" and "Get the New Version". Of course choose Get the New Version. It will take time (more or less 5 minutes or depends on the internet connection you have) to complete the download. When the download is finished, it will prompt you if you're ready to install it or later by clicking one of these two buttons: "Restart Later" or "Restart Firefox". If you click Restart Firefox, your firefox will restart and do the installation. When it opens back, it will check the compatibility of some of your add-ons (just choose what you feel is right) and voila you now have the latest firefox which I promised to show you (oh I'm a man of words! :D).

Hope everyone is doing fine and don't forget to interact by leaving your comments.

Update: Same as above. Doing these steps will end up you with Firefox 12 (I think I should create lens that is fixed and not the kind that keeps on changing).

Security & Safety Tip

Private Browsing

Sharing what we have especially when we have something to give is wonderful. Of course, it does not only refer to tangible things but knowledge does matter. And receiving these blessings is what makes us happy.

Here's one of the best yet simple features of Firefox 4. They called it private browsing. What is private browsing?

Private browsing is one of the great things that we often ignore of or no knowledge about. This one will be very useful especially when you are in a public places (computer cafeteria/internet shop) to avoid storing the sites you visited (from the people you do not trust/strangers) as well as personal information to be exposed. At home, there you have brothers and sisters who share one computer with one another. If you want to benefit from it, it's a one click away. I'm not telling you to be selfish with them or keep things only to yourself but if you really want a private browsing, go ahead.

The screenshot next to this lens tells you how to make a private browsing in your Firefox 4 web browser. Or if you're into keyboard shortcuts, hold and press Ctrl+Shift+P right in the firefox browser. To return to a normal browsing, repeat the shortcut or click the orange button with "Firefox" on it and you will find "Stop Private browsing". Click it and voila! you're back. It's so simple.

Enjoy! =D

Which Sides Are You On?

(They're both fantastic coz everyone can use it for free)

This is not a competition of/between the two giant web browsers. I just want to know your ideas and opinions when it comes to choosing and picking up a web browser. I also like chrome but this lens is about firefox and firefox is my bet. ^_^

Which is way better when it comes to design, performance, features and others:

Mozilla Firefox

wilfredpadilla says:

I take both sides!

Serenia says:

I have not tried Chrome, and am not going to. This is purely because Google changed its privacy policies to collect data on our searching to sell to advertisers. So based on that policy I will not use their products.

AnimalHouse says:

I love mozilla firefox its easy and very secure to use.

JanAna1 says:

mozilla is better as of now because it has a debugger that can be used by the developer

manlalakbay says:

Yeah I encountered that before (firefox stays active even after you close it and the only way to fix the problem is go to task manager process and end it) and based on the research I gathered why it happens is because of:

- Your computer is infected by virus.
- Some add-ons installed on your firefox browser are outdated, so better update it. Plug-ins (Java, Flash, Adobe Reader) can also cause this odd behavior if they're not updated...

Anyway, thanks for pointing out some of firefox weaknesses. I learned by doing this way, and you provoked my little mind to think and find answers. :)

ajgodinho says:

I still like Firefox 4 for most part, but prefer Google Chrome especially for Squidoo. I use both for different purposes, but use FF more.

manlalakbay says:

What's the point of turning you browser into a private browsing and then you open another tab/window (under of the same browser) for a non-private browsing. In the first place, you turn your browser into a private browsing because you want to make sure that you are safe. For web development, firefox got one also: Firebug extension. About the tab crashes, firefox released a Tab Crash Protection which responds to the crashing or freezing of a tab, because of this, the others are not affected and run smoothly.
Anyway, thanks for participating in and providing your knowledge about chrome (I actually didn't know, but now I know, the presented features of chrome you pinpoint except the tab crashes). :)

Google Chrome

mihgasper says:

I use both:-)

wilfredpadilla says:

I take both sides!

sukkran says:

for squidooing, chrome is my fav browser.

goo2eyes says:

firefox is better. google chrome looks very simple to me.

karmicchristian says:

Chrome works fine for me. :)

Firebrains says:

I am into chrome but I have to disagree with what hollandnumerics said.. Chromium is a little buggy compared to firefox

hollandnumerics says:

Although I use Firefox a lot of the time, my preference is for Google Chrome, or Chromium that is the standard browser on my Joli OS (Jolicloud) netbook. Firefox, even Firefox 4, is not as quick as Chrome (Chromium), and I've been using the extra HTML5 functionality for some time there. Either way I only use Internet Explorer when a business client forces me to!

jeremejazz says:

Firefox often stays on your memory even it is closed.. you can see this after closing your browser then running the task manager then the processes tab

jeremejazz says:

It has the add-ons you need in web development like the debugger.. and when a tab crashes, the others are not affected.. much more, you can open the private browsing together with the non private :) making u log in two sites at a time :D (nice lens)

I have used Firefox for over an year now and i cant complain i had to upgrade from internet explorer as it kept asking for updates and sometimes doing it automatically.
  • javrsmith Sep 24, 2011 @ 2:17 pm | delete
I don't like that Firefox wanted to upgrade instantly all the time. My plugins weren't compatible, though. I have turned off autoupdating because I need my plugins to work.
  • mattyrobinson Aug 14, 2011 @ 4:47 pm | delete
Firefox is superior at present, largely due to the extensive range of add-ons availible. Chrome just isn't quite there yet.
  • kwj Aug 10, 2011 @ 1:12 am | delete
I like Firefox because of the browser functionality

Yeah I know that there is a firefox 5 version already but I haven't got a chance to update this lens. Besides there is a version 3.6.18 too which is for those who like to stay on the stable and use to that looks and features. Anyway, thanks for reminding me. :)
  • karmicchristian Jun 26, 2011 @ 5:26 am | delete
Ditto Sukkran, esp. for squidoo usage, I find chrome faster after trying out both.
