Is Mozilla Firefox better than Internet Explorer?

Ranked #496 in Internet, #23,568 overall

Mozilla Firefox

Mozilla Firefox is a freeware and open source alternative to Internet Explorer that I use every day. It includes facilities to install add-ons for themes, dictionaries, plugins and other applications, which means it can be customized to suit your online use. It runs on Windows, Linux and OSX, and is included in most Linux distros.

What is the latest version of Mozilla Firefox?

I have recently updated my Mozilla Firefox to 8.0.1 on my Windows 7 and XP laptops and to 3.6.13 on my Ubuntu netbook, all for free, but you can download the very latest releases for all supported platforms (i.e. Windows, Linux and OSX) from download page. From Firefox 4 supports HTML5 and much faster Javascript processing. However, if you have any comments on the currently available Firefox releases, then I'd be interested in your views.

Mozilla Firefox is better

Curt001 says:

For me, Firefox is better than IE, however I use Chrome 100% now as it's so much faster!

Helen668 says:

I would definitely say Mozilla Firefox.

TravelingRae says:

Call me crazy, but I like a fast browser that isn't a security risk and which doesn't crash or freeze.

dogface says:

I vote for Google Chrome? Huh? No but seriously, everything's better than IE (and Chrome's better than FF, in my opinion).

nmajca says:

You don't even notice the advantages until you switch to Firefox!

Top-10-Store says:

Definitely Firefox.

evitaa says:

It has to be Mozilla Firefox!!!

Peter.Murray says:

Everything is better than Internet Explorer

kt_glasses says:

Firefox is so much better! No offense, but IE is rubbish.

thedan1984 says:

The web development plugins for Firefox make it an instant win over IE

Chromey says:

Firefox..most of my clients use IE though...Although professionally most use Firefox at office.

Sadheeskumar says:

Till today, Mozilla is the best . No doubt about that.

R_R says:

The ability to customize is key! Also, Internet Explorer has no built in spellchecker - a must for anyone who fills out web forms/web email in any type of professional capacity.

hollandnumerics says:

I've customized my Firefox installation to include a British dictionary that automatically checks my spelling when I type into a web form, applications to expand short URLs, convert web pages to PDF and help me tweet about web pages, and themes to maximise the screen space available to web pages. It is also more than quick enough, and in the rare cases where web pages are written to be incompatible (like microsoft.com), I have another add-on to display that page inside Firefox, but using IE "under the covers".

Internet Explorer is better

I generally use Firefox, sometimes use chrome. They're both good. I'm not really sure why I don't like Internet Explorer, but I don't. Great lens, thanks for sharing.

Firefox 4 does it for me, I only use Internet Exploder on my 2nd monitor, to watch online TV...I must say that IE8 is better than IE7 though, less annoying but still not as flexible as FF.

Useful lens, I have found most Internet newbies use IE, however most "seasoned" net users use a different browser. I help people with IE daily on the phone.

While both browsers have a "private browsing" mode, I find Firefox to have the additional plugins to help protect your privacy while surfing the Internet. Otherwise, you're just protecting against someone sitting at your PC
