It includes facilities to install add-ons for themes, dictionaries, plugins and other applications, which means it can be customized to suit your online use. It runs on Windows, Linux and OSX, and is included in most Linux distros.

The ability to customize is key! Also, Internet Explorer has no built in spellchecker - a must for anyone who fills out web forms/web email in any type of professional capacity.

I've customized my Firefox installation to include a British dictionary that automatically checks my spelling when I type into a web form, applications to expand short URLs, convert web pages to PDF and help me tweet about web pages, and themes to maximise the screen space available to web pages. It is also more than quick enough, and in the rare cases where web pages are written to be incompatible (like microsoft.com), I have another add-on to display that page inside Firefox, but using IE "under the covers".

Mozilla Firefox is a free and open source web browser descended from the Mozilla Application Suite and managed by Mozilla Corporation. A Net Applications survey put Firefox at 25% of the recorded usage share of web browsers , making it the second most popular browser in terms of current use worldwide after Microsoft's Internet Explorer, and the most used browser independent of any one operating system.
