Mozilla Firefox

Mozilla Firefox is a freeware and open source alternative to Internet Explorer that I use every day. It includes facilities to install add-ons for themes, dictionaries, plugins and other applications, which means it can be customized to suit your online use. It runs on Windows, Linux and OSX, and is included in most Linux distros.

Mozilla Firefox is better

R_R says:

The ability to customize is key! Also, Internet Explorer has no built in spellchecker - a must for anyone who fills out web forms/web email in any type of professional capacity.

hollandnumerics says:

I've customized my Firefox installation to include a British dictionary that automatically checks my spelling when I type into a web form, applications to expand short URLs, convert web pages to PDF and help me tweet about web pages, and themes to maximise the screen space available to web pages. It is also more than quick enough, and in the rare cases where web pages are written to be incompatible (like microsoft.com), I have another add-on to display that page inside Firefox, but using IE "under the covers".

Internet Explorer is better

A Net Applications survey put Firefox at 25% of the recorded usage share of web browsers , meaning Firefox is used by about 1 in 4 internet users, making it the second most popular browser in terms of current use worldwide after Microsoft's Internet Explorer, and the most used browser independent of any one operating system.

To display web pages, Firefox uses the Gecko layout engine, which implements most current web standards in addition to several features which are intended to anticipate likely additions to the standards.

Latest Firefox features include tabbed browsing, spell checking, incremental find, live bookmarking, a download manager, private browsing, location-aware browsing (aka "geolocation") based exclusively on a Google service (section "What information is being sent, and to whom? (...)") and an integrated search system that uses Google by default in most localizations. Functions can be added through add-ons, created by third-party developers,addons.mozilla.org Browse all Extensions page of which there is a wide selection, a feature that has attracted many of Firefox's users.

Firefox runs on various versions of Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, Linux, and many other Unix-like operating systems. Its current stable release is version 3.5.5, released on . Firefox's source code is free software, released under a tri-license GNU GPL/GNU LGPL/MPL.
