Firefox: the best web browser

1 - I can do better 2 - Jury's out 3 - Pretty darn good 4 - Splendiferous 5 - Awesometastic by 12 people | Log in to rate

Ranked #5,335 in Tech & Geek, #127,166 overall

A long time Netscape/Mozilla fan, I downloaded the first version of Firefox (version 0.1) and have been hooked ever since.   At that time, the browser was named Phoenix, then later changed to Firebird before finally choosing "Firefox".

This is the browser that reignited the browser wars and caused Microsoft to begin work on the new Internet Explorer, much earlier than they had planned.

My favorite extensions for hassle-free browsing

Delicious extension
For me, this extension is a huge upgrade from the bookmarklet tool, which I really loved. This is a far more integrated approach to adding sites to you Delicious bookmarks with a few handy buttons added into Firefox.
PDF Download
If you're like me, you really don't like hitting a link for a PDF unknowingly, and having to wait for the browser to open Acrobat and display the PDF. Firefox seems particularly buggy with PDFs to boot. PDF download prompts you when you hit a PDF link and asks you what to do: view a PDF file inside the browser (as PDF or HTML) or you want to download it. Brilliant!
Tabbrowser Preferences
This extension provides a comprehensive UI for changing a number of the hidden tabbed browsing preferences in Firefox. It also provides the ability to control how internal and external links are opened in the browser and how the browser will react when links are sent to it.

My favorite extensions for web development

This list is for web designers and developers.
Web Developer Toolbar
The best of the best! An essential extension for any web developer/designer as it provides a raft of incredibly useful features all under one roof. You will wonder how you ever managed without it!
View Source Choice v0.1
Finally! Someone has developed an extension that redirects View Source to current window (current default in Firefox), new tab, or new window and more. New for Firefox 1.5
ColorZilla
Advanced Eyedropper, ColorPicker, Page Zoomer and other colorful goodies.
MeasureIt
A handy on-screen ruler to get the pixel width and height of any elements on a web page.
View Rendered Source Chart
HTML charting is a totally new and innovative way to look at source code.
