Your furniture collection for the room surrounding your fireplace will most likely include a couch and sofa, an area rug-most likely a deeply colored modern rug, like a blue area rug or brown area rug, or an oriental area rug, and soft lighting that can be used in addition to or without the fireplace.

One of the mistakes people make when decorating the room around their fireplaces-myself included%u2026I made this mistake once in the worst way-is that they skimp on furniture, area rugs and lighting sources. Never select pleather over leather and certainly don't choose a polycotton blend area rug when you can select an oriental area rug made from thick, hand woven wool pile that will last long, retain color and durability and become an heirloom.
