I am extremely petite but lost a lot of my muscle when I stopped playing sports after high school. I was still skinny but there was a noticable loss of muscle and I just didn't look toned anymore. I bought the Wave because of the great price and reviews. I worked out with it about 2-3 a week and within a very short time the difference was obvious. My thighs looked mored toned and my butt felt more toned as well. I love this product and stand by it %100. If you put the effort in, you will see results.

I purchased The Wave at Academy Sports about ten days ago. I have never been someone who works out often - rarely, in fact. I am 5'2" and have always been between 120-130 pounds. However, after getting close to 140 lbs, I decided I needed to start working in some exercise - which I dreaded having to do.

I was pleased to find that included with The Wave was an exercise schedule. It is a 4 week schedule, alternating all the different workouts with two rest days per week. This keeps in fun and exciting since you're never doing the same workout back to back. For the last 8 days, I have stuck to that schedule, so I have now completed 6 Wave workouts. I can't say enough good things about the exercise system - I have tried so many things in the past. I get bored exercising very easily, but this is fun and exciting and I want to move on to the next step in the sequence. I haven't weighed myself to see if I've lost weight yet, but I feel stronger after only 6 workouts and I know I'm building muscle.

The only DVD I found to be a little complicated at first was the Rock It Off workout. Some of the steps were extremely fast-paced in the beginning and I was very confused. But after doing that same workout a few more times now, I have the steps down. It just takes practice. Both the Ride the Wave and Speed-Slimming Sculpt were not confusing at all.

I highly recommend this system, as someone who has despised exercising in the past. It's fun, innovative, and I actually look forward to working out out each day.

    Ange,

Have you lost anymore weight? I am trying to decide whether or not to buy the wave.

I purchased the Wave at Wal-Mart. The board was too slippery. I keep slipping off the wave. My tennis shoes would not grap the wave. It was an accident prone to happen. A good concept, but my personal feeling is the wave was design with the wrong material. It needs a material on the board to grip your tennis shoes more properly for safety reasons. Wal-Mart give me my refund with no questions asked. I am glad I didn't order the product by mail. I was very disappointed because I was looking forward to adding "The Wave" with my other weekly workouts.

I have the problem with certain pairs of sneakers. You need sneakers with a strong grip/ I find my sketchers to be the best so far.

I just got the wave and have been doing it for a week now. I have to say that at first it was a little hard to keep up because I was unfamiliar with the moves but I got used to the moves after a few days and now I am fine. I am really excited about working out again.

Also, for those people who posted complaints about charges after the 30 day trial - the recording specifically stated that after the 30 days free trial they were going to start charging so I didn't sign up. It is not easy to listen to becasue the recording is so darn long but if you pay attention to the entire recording they let you know that free really isn't free. In that respect they are not any different than any other company that I have dealt with.

I received the wave over a month ago, i've been following the workout routine and eating right in 4 weeks i lost 14 lbs. I think the workouts are high energy and very fun. They can be confusing at first but i find if i took a step back the first few times i watched i was able to perfect the moves and keep up the next time. The real key is to not watch the instructor but to listen instead and watch your wave you dont want to fall over! I ordered through amazon so i have not dealt with the firm customer service. I think its a great product and I highly recommend it. I've tried other workouts before and i just couldn't stay with them they didn't keep my interest. What i love about the wave is that I have different videos to choose from so i'm not constantly doing the same thing. I feel great i look better and am still motivated to continue!
  • Debbie May 11, 2010 @ 4:41 pm | delete
HORRIBLE PRODUCT and even worse CUSTOMER SERVICE! They get your credit card information up front in the automated system and then it's impossible to get out of their automated system without getting overcharged. When you call customer service to have it corrected, they say return the product at your cost of $20. It's a $20 lesson. I wouldn't mind if the vidoes were good, but its too fast to keep up with unless you are already in tip top shape.

    BEWARE OF TERRIBLE COMPANY POLICIES!!!!
DO NOT BE TRICKED BY YOUR 30 DAY FREE TRIAL FOR THE FIRM BELIEVERS CLUB.
I WAS UNDER THE ASSUMPTION THAT I GOT A 30 DAY TRIAL AND THAT WAS IT.
OF COURSE I SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT "RIP-OFF OUR CUSTOMERS" INSTEAD.
YOU CONTINUE TO GET CHARGED AFTER YOUR 30 DAY TRIAL FOREVER!!!!!UNTIL YOU REALIZE THAT THESE ARE ON YOU CREDIT CARD BILLS.
I RECIEVED A $9.99 CHARGE AND INQUIRED ABOUT IT AND REALIZED I HAD ALREADY BEEN CHARGED 24.99 FOR THE PREVIOUS 3 MONTHS ALSO(I THOUGHT THAT WAS PART OF MY DIVIDED PAYMENT, SO I DID NOT REALIZE IT UNTIL NOW)
AND THE "BEST" PART IS-CUSTOMER SERVICE(WHAT A JOKE) SAYS TOO BAD-IT'S NON REFUNDABLE!!!!! WE WOULD RATHER LOSE A CUSTOMER THAN GIVE YOU A REFUND!!!! WOW-GREAT CUSTOMER RELATIONS!!WHAT A COMPANY!!
SO BEWARE-PRODUCT IS NOT WORTH THE HASSLE AND EXTRA EXPENSE
  • Dani Jun 1, 2010 @ 11:41 pm | delete
WOWWW... Maybe you should read/listen to what you buy. They say that those charges will occur if you don't cancel before the 30 day free trial is over. This is not the only company to do this. Make sure you know what you're getting next time.

I order my Wave on a saturday, I called back to cancel but couldn't talk to a human. I emailed and got a reply the next day saying they were sorry but once the order was made it could not be cancelled...What!!!!! They get your information and then ignore a request to cancel...that is poor business. I wanted to cancel because I found it cheaper at wal mart!!!! Don't order directly from the company! They also have third party selling tactics that will charge you even if you decline ordering from them! If they want to back up their product they should have customer service 24/7!!! BEWARE!!!
  • robertamt Apr 27, 2010 @ 12:10 pm | delete
also beware of the extra charges you will incur for memberships!!call and make sure they cancel them. good luck they told me too bad-you should have known you had the membership!!! 30 day trial does not end-it just means they charge you after that!

the Wave tones your whole body without adding so much muscle that you end up looking manly. The parts of your body you want toned will definitely see improvement without a doubt.

It should come with a big, strong warning! I was worried that I would fall of the Wave and injure myself so the first thing I did was to place the Wave on the floor mat & climb on - I found it very easy to balance rocking back & forth. I ended up bending at the waist & leaning forward as I rocked back & forth for about 15 minutes. The next day I opened the package that contained the DVD's - put in the first one & found that you should not bend or lean forward. Three weeks later my lower back is killing me!!!!!!!!!!!! I can barely walk in the morning when I get up! Beware, follow the instructions!!

I called the # on the TV to order and was forced to talk to an automated voice that kept adding on additional items (more videos, viamins etc.) that I did NOT want....yes I repeatedly told the voice NO,NO No. I immmediatly called customer service to cancel and was told that I could not do so because I was not "in the computer"....however my bank account kept getting charged over and over. I called again the next day, and the next...to no avail. Finally I was told to refuse the packages and send them back...this means traveling to FedEx and the post office many times. My bank account has never been credited and it seems I will have to file a claim against these thieves. Watch out for this company they will rob you blind. if you really want the product I suggest ordering form another place...ie QVC...Good luck

I don't want the Wave...I like the older DVDs, and want to purchase a Fanny Lifter. Why can't I find one on the Firm's web site? They are losing money by abandoning all those customers that still have and use the older DVDs. Do you know where I can get a Fanny Lifter? There are eBay auctions for them, but it's hard to be the highest bidder!
  • Ukhti Mar 27, 2010 @ 6:14 am | delete
@ Tara ---> I also don't care for The Wave and prefer the older DVDs. I tried to re-order the BSS1 series (with the Fanny Lifter) from the Firm website back in January, and here it is March and I still haven't received it yet. Instead, I received a card from the Firm stating it's on backorder and that I'll receive it within a month. Mind you, after that month was up, I just got another card stating the same thing. I also hit up ebay, but decided that wasn't an option! Some of those bids are nonsensically high! Ugh! All the other Firm steps are no longer on the sites at all, which leads me to believe they may just be discontinuing some of their products. A shame, really, because their oldies really are their goodies. All the BSS series were solid workouts (even though the BSS1 is my fave); too bad to see them go!

I have been using the wave for about 3 months now. They way I use it is I usually do one the express workouts (like the sculpt express) which are shorter than the full versions and last about 20-25 minutes and then jump on the treadmill or elliptical for another 30 minutes at least. This combo has been amazing for me. I do this 4 times a week and I have had great results. I lost 10lbs (I didn't need to lose more than that) but I have toned my body so much that it feels like I lost twice as much. I think this is really the key.
  • Sara Mar 14, 2010 @ 10:11 pm | delete
hey dr. mar how long did it take you to lose the 10 lbs?
  • nancy Mar 14, 2010 @ 9:20 am | delete
I agree with most of the comments left here. I was so excited when I got my wave. I opened it up and got started immediately. I did the start up video, learned how to use the wave and was ready to go. The video started and in 2 minutes I was already lost. The moves are so hard you spend most of the time trying to figure out what the instructor is doing. It goes way to fast and unless you use weights you aren't really benefiting from the exercises. I wish they made a beginner video; they do tell you to follow one of the exercisers if you are a beginner but the camera isn't on her the whole time and it gets confusing. It s a shame because the slower exercises they did I enjoyed. I did feel like the wave is a device that I would use regularly but he videos are more for advanced users. I'm surprised by this because the Firm is usually a company that makes several types of videos for women at different stages. They should have included a beginner video in this set. Sorry, mine is getting returned!

  • Kelly Dec 27, 2009 @ 10:20 am | delete
I just got the wave for Christmas ( my hubby wasn't being a jerk, I did ask for it!) I just started, but I do like it. And, compared to the price of a t-bow, a good deal. I have been doing the Body for Life for a few years, and I love it. However, my workouts were getting stale and I needed some zing.

The little diet pamphlet in there is worthless. As a vegetarian, I find most of those things silly and a waste. No vegetarian options. Not that I need it because I am not trying to lose weight, it just irks me how companies put in diet plans that do not have a vegetarian version.

My conern is the slipping. My foot slips on some of the exercises, and I'm afraid I will ultimately wrench my knee (I have good tread on my shoes). Even my hands slip while doing pushups. While trying to do a few of the ab moves, my body was slipping off. I think my workout was compromised because I spent a lot of time re-adjusting myself with the wave instead of actually exercising.

Also, there are a lot of complicated moves. I find it silly for instructors to feel the need to put in complicated moves. I have been doing the Body for Life for a few years now, and I have never had to do any complicated moves for results - and they last. So, complicated moves are NOT necessary for results, and the only result of complicated workouts is anger. My workouts for the Body for Life are short and intense - nothing fancy. I have to admit, the sweat and burn combination really work. Fancy moves? Fancy moves actually give you less of a workout because you cannot do the moves, and they don't show you how to do them.

The Wave did add some zing into my workouts. But, again, I feel that workout moves should be simple, not dangerous moves that you cannot keep up with or figure out. Of course you are told to watch the beginner trainer if you are new, and then fail to show much of her. And, they change the moves so quickly that you don't have time to keep up with the change. Also, the instructors are wearing black pants, making it even more difficult to see what in the heck you are supposed to be doing.

It doesn't creak for me like some people mentioned.

Even with all my griping, I think I will keep it. It was a gift, and I suspect my hubby did not save the receipt, so I will figure out how to use it constructively. I will ultimately have to create my own workout on it, because the DVD's are so poor. But, it is a GOOD piece of equipment, especially for the price.
  • Leigh Jan 12, 2010 @ 11:51 am | delete
I also received The Wave from my husband for Christmas (by request) and am also having a hard time keeping up. I do like the equipment-I just wish the instructors would slow down and not put so many, difficult step moves in their workouts. I'm not a coordinated person at all so this is really difficult for me. Also, when I start a new workout I usually get sore but I have not had any soreness from the workouts and I've been doing them for over 2 weeks now.
  • Kelly Jan 18, 2010 @ 10:48 am | delete
    Leigh -

It is possible that the reason you are not getting sore is that it is difficult to figure out how to do the dances correctly. I think most people desire The Wave after seeing the infomercial. In the infomercial, they really use the 'wave' portion of The Wave. In the actual DVD's, they use it to dance around, or as a step. I agree, I would prefer a few, good solid moves that cause me to sweat and burn - and that I can actually perform. The infomercial really insinuates you will get a good workout. It also spends a lot more time on the 'wave' aspect of the equipment, not using it as a step or something to dance around. I worry about causing injury to my knee with all the quick changing moves, which inhibits my workout.
  • Aimee Dec 14, 2009 @ 10:02 am | delete
If you have your masters in dance then the Wave will perfect for you! The most intense part of my work-out thus far has been running around trying to find my DVD remote so I can rewind the dang thing in an attempt to catch up with the very complex "dance based" steps. The instructors provide little or no detail on how to execute many of the most complicated steps. They rush through every stage of the work out as if they get a cash bonus if they finish filming in under 30 minutes! They're like hyper cheerleaders on a caffine high. Very unsettling.
On the bright side, the Wave itself is a brilliant piece of equipment. Every time I have used it I have felt the aftermath. I am a physically active person (tennis 3-4 days a week and gym 2-3 days a week) so it's nice to have a change in my routine that I can tell is working on all areas of my body. I have yet to master the ability to keep the Wave from sliding around on the floor during my work out but I believe that will come with time. I put a beach towel under it today and that seemed to help.
Bottom line is I would recommend this product but I'd plan on learning how to use it yourself without the DVD's. The Wave gets a 9 on a 1-10 scale the instructors receive a 4.
  • Sunshinegirl007 Feb 24, 2010 @ 9:34 pm | delete
I received the wave for Christmas as well as the others above. It is a great piece of equipment and always gives me a good workout. I have been in dance for 15 years so that helps me out quite a bit. The dance lessons I have taken are not formal or professional by any means. So it may help to watch the videos a few times before actually stepping on the wave just to get a feel for what some of the moves are like. I agree they can be very tricky at first but after repeating the videos I was able to get the hang of it! :]

I am finishing my second week of the Wave and really enjoy the workout. It is challenging with the hand weights and I feel I get a good cardio workout. It does not aggravate me knees like step aerobics does. I am looking forward to seeing the results I get from the Wave.

My Firm Wave creaks badly and I'm only 130 pounds. I think its a defect in design.

I have had the wave for about 2 months and it makes a cracking sound as well. I am under the maximum weight so I don't think that has to do with it.
I read other reviews that say it's ok/normal that it makes that sound - but it is quite disconcerting for it to actually be making that sound when I'm exercising!
So far so good, though. It hasn't broke! LOL!

I have had the wave for about a month. My wave makes a cracking noise to and I am only about 155 pounds. I called the hotline and they are sending me a new one. I am not sure if there is actually a problem or if that is just how it is. Besides that, I love this thing. This is the first time in my life I have been excited about exercising. I look forward to getting home and getting on it!

I absolutly love the wave. You'd be crazy not to try it. I feel great and look slimmer after only 6 workouts. Its tough so I won't be getting bored for a very long time. I strongly recommend buying rock solid buns and abs with the resistance band from the beginning. I have 5 dvds to alternate between and I love it. I already see that my hips are slimmer!!! I sweat like a pig when i do the wave...its great and worth every penny!!!!!!!

I weigh 267lbs and I worried that the little bit of creaking and crunching was bad, but so far it's working fine and the noises it makes when torqued haven't resulted in damage. It's just plastic parts moving against each other as weight is distributed differently, I guess.

If you want to try the Firm, but don't feel comfortable with the Wave, the Firm Body Sculpting System (version 2, I think), has a stepper (the Fanny Lifter) that is two small steps that stack together. It might feel more sturdy for you. I must warn you, though. I found those workouts to be far more strength-training based and were really challenging. I like the level of the Wave more. The Wave is challenging but not to the point that you don't think you can stick with it.

I had lost 85 pounds a few years ago and the Firm videos/DVDs were fitness staple for me. Their workouts do get good results, but you must modify them if anything feels uncomfortable.

You should be OK at 225lbs but I've only tested it to 170lbs (my husband). If you're concerned about the weight limit you could take a look at The T-Bow It has an upper limit of 660lbs. Snag is it costs 199 dollars a lot more than The Firm Wave.

    All the best,

I know it's very annoying they don't sell it in the UK. I was lucky The Firm sent me one to review so I'm one of the few people here to have one. You could always look at the T-Bow it costs a little more at 115 pounds but will do the same job. You can buy it at Amazon.

Gaining muscle is good and will help you lose fat. Remember fat loss takes time and if you're in good health the Wave will help.

No using The Wave wouldn't be a good choice after ACL surgery. Stick with what the Physiotherapist has told you to do.

I'm going to buy this. I'm in a second floor apartment and can't do a lot of jumping type moves up here. I'm wary of buying an expensive elliptical or treadmill that would shake the ceilling of the tenant below me and then I have to get rid of it. This wave looks versatile and won't be expensive or take up a lot of room in my apartment. It's worth a try. I''ll bookmark this site and try to remember to report back later with my opinion.

I am coming off of surgery for a torn ACL .. Would the Wave be a good choice?

Yes it does. It has the Jump-start Workout Calendar which you can follow.

Does the firm wave have a calendar to follow?

How safe is the Wave for someone who is shall we say more than a little overweight?
I like the product but worry I might hurt myself.

I agree for a piece of home exercise equipment it's second to none. It does it all cardio, strength and stretching - You can even use it to make your Pilates exercises more challenging.

Go for it! I have to say I have a biased view though :) You can buy the FirmWave at a great price and it does exactly what it says on the tin!
