I just got the wave for Christmas ( my hubby wasn't being a jerk, I did ask for it!) I just started, but I do like it. And, compared to the price of a t-bow, a good deal. I have been doing the Body for Life for a few years, and I love it. However, my workouts were getting stale and I needed some zing.

The little diet pamphlet in there is worthless. As a vegetarian, I find most of those things silly and a waste. No vegetarian options. Not that I need it because I am not trying to lose weight, it just irks me how companies put in diet plans that do not have a vegetarian version.

My conern is the slipping. My foot slips on some of the exercises, and I'm afraid I will ultimately wrench my knee (I have good tread on my shoes). Even my hands slip while doing pushups. While trying to do a few of the ab moves, my body was slipping off. I think my workout was compromised because I spent a lot of time re-adjusting myself with the wave instead of actually exercising.

Also, there are a lot of complicated moves. I find it silly for instructors to feel the need to put in complicated moves. I have been doing the Body for Life for a few years now, and I have never had to do any complicated moves for results - and they last. So, complicated moves are NOT necessary for results, and the only result of complicated workouts is anger. My workouts for the Body for Life are short and intense - nothing fancy. I have to admit, the sweat and burn combination really work. Fancy moves? Fancy moves actually give you less of a workout because you cannot do the moves, and they don't show you how to do them.

The Wave did add some zing into my workouts. But, again, I feel that workout moves should be simple, not dangerous moves that you cannot keep up with or figure out. Of course you are told to watch the beginner trainer if you are new, and then fail to show much of her. And, they change the moves so quickly that you don't have time to keep up with the change. Also, the instructors are wearing black pants, making it even more difficult to see what in the heck you are supposed to be doing.

It doesn't creak for me like some people mentioned.

Even with all my griping, I think I will keep it. It was a gift, and I suspect my hubby did not save the receipt, so I will figure out how to use it constructively. I will ultimately have to create my own workout on it, because the DVD's are so poor. But, it is a GOOD piece of equipment, especially for the price.

If you have your masters in dance then the Wave will perfect for you! The most intense part of my work-out thus far has been running around trying to find my DVD remote so I can rewind the dang thing in an attempt to catch up with the very complex "dance based" steps. The instructors provide little or no detail on how to execute many of the most complicated steps. They rush through every stage of the work out as if they get a cash bonus if they finish filming in under 30 minutes! They're like hyper cheerleaders on a caffine high. Very unsettling.
On the bright side, the Wave itself is a brilliant piece of equipment. Every time I have used it I have felt the aftermath. I am a physically active person (tennis 3-4 days a week and gym 2-3 days a week) so it's nice to have a change in my routine that I can tell is working on all areas of my body. I have yet to master the ability to keep the Wave from sliding around on the floor during my work out but I believe that will come with time. I put a beach towel under it today and that seemed to help.
Bottom line is I would recommend this product but I'd plan on learning how to use it yourself without the DVD's. The Wave gets a 9 on a 1-10 scale the instructors receive a 4.

I am finishing my second week of the Wave and really enjoy the workout. It is challenging with the hand weights and I feel I get a good cardio workout. It does not aggravate me knees like step aerobics does. I am looking forward to seeing the results I get from the Wave.

So good to find your lens. I have several Firm videos and am interested in The Wave. I taught step training for many years, and this workout seems very similar. I just need toning. Thanks for providing answers to some of my questions.

My Firm Wave creaks badly and I'm only 130 pounds. I think its a defect in design.

I have had the wave for about 2 months and it makes a cracking sound as well. I am under the maximum weight so I don't think that has to do with it.
I read other reviews that say it's ok/normal that it makes that sound - but it is quite disconcerting for it to actually be making that sound when I'm exercising!
So far so good, though. It hasn't broke! LOL!

I have had the wave for about a month. My wave makes a cracking noise to and I am only about 155 pounds. I called the hotline and they are sending me a new one. I am not sure if there is actually a problem or if that is just how it is. Besides that, I love this thing. This is the first time in my life I have been excited about exercising. I look forward to getting home and getting on it!

I absolutly love the wave. You'd be crazy not to try it. I feel great and look slimmer after only 6 workouts. Its tough so I won't be getting bored for a very long time. I strongly recommend buying rock solid buns and abs with the resistance band from the beginning. I have 5 dvds to alternate between and I love it. I already see that my hips are slimmer!!! I sweat like a pig when i do the wave...its great and worth every penny!!!!!!!

I weigh 267lbs and I worried that the little bit of creaking and crunching was bad, but so far it's working fine and the noises it makes when torqued haven't resulted in damage. It's just plastic parts moving against each other as weight is distributed differently, I guess.

If you want to try the Firm, but don't feel comfortable with the Wave, the Firm Body Sculpting System (version 2, I think), has a stepper (the Fanny Lifter) that is two small steps that stack together. It might feel more sturdy for you. I must warn you, though. I found those workouts to be far more strength-training based and were really challenging. I like the level of the Wave more. The Wave is challenging but not to the point that you don't think you can stick with it.

I had lost 85 pounds a few years ago and the Firm videos/DVDs were fitness staple for me. Their workouts do get good results, but you must modify them if anything feels uncomfortable.

You should be OK at 225lbs but I've only tested it to 170lbs (my husband). If you're concerned about the weight limit you could take a look at The T-Bow It has an upper limit of 660lbs. Snag is it costs 199 dollars a lot more than The Firm Wave.

    All the best,

    Carol

I know it's very annoying they don't sell it in the UK. I was lucky The Firm sent me one to review so I'm one of the few people here to have one. You could always look at the T-Bow it costs a little more at 115 pounds but will do the same job. You can buy it at Amazon.

Why does no one sell this system in the UK, I'd love to try it but can't:(
Unless any of you know where to get one from within the uk?

Just curious about the weight limit. I weigh around 225 pounds right now and I'm scared that that is too close to the 275 weight limit! Will I break this thing?

Gaining muscle is good and will help you lose fat. Remember fat loss takes time and if you're in good health the Wave will help.

No using The Wave wouldn't be a good choice after ACL surgery. Stick with what the Physiotherapist has told you to do.

I'm going to buy this. I'm in a second floor apartment and can't do a lot of jumping type moves up here. I'm wary of buying an expensive elliptical or treadmill that would shake the ceilling of the tenant below me and then I have to get rid of it. This wave looks versatile and won't be expensive or take up a lot of room in my apartment. It's worth a try. I''ll bookmark this site and try to remember to report back later with my opinion.

How safe is the Wave for someone who is shall we say more than a little overweight?
I like the product but worry I might hurt myself.

I agree for a piece of home exercise equipment it's second to none. It does it all cardio, strength and stretching - You can even use it to make your Pilates exercises more challenging.

Go for it! I have to say I have a biased view though :) You can buy the FirmWave at a great price and it does exactly what it says on the tin!
