Becoming a New Mom is Actually Easier When You Understand Your Identity Change
I am writing this page about parenting tips for new moms because most women are taken by surprise when they find out just how much their life changes with the first baby born. The younger moms that I know seem to be especially squeezed between two major expectations for themselves. The stress of trying to force these two expectations to play ball together add an unnecessary challenge to the already-challenging adjustment to motherhood.

On the one hand women have been socialized to believe that they should have a career and that there something "less than" about them if they follow their innate craving to give life. On the other hand, a young woman in her 20s or 30s has witnessed numerous families dissolve with sometimes devestating results. Consequently, they feel the pressure to be the super mom. It seems like the shock of reality for new dads is a bit softer or, at least more gradual, than it is for new moms.
