My First Grandchild Before His Birth

Yes, my first grandchild is a boy. At least, they were very sure at the ultrasound! Hopefully there's not a surprise when the baby arrives! If it's a girl, she'll be wearing an awful lot of blue stuff!

Anyway, I created this lens as a record of my grandson before his birth. I've included pictures of my daughter and pictures of the baby from the ultrasound. I've also included some comments about the joys and struggles throughout the journey of my daughter's pregnancy.

I hope you enjoy this page! Please share your stories with me at the end. I'd love to hear about your first grandchild . . . or any other pregnancy stories too!

Update: My grandson was born on February 18, 2010 - - yes, the ultrasound was correct!

Update: Carter is 1 today! I can't believe how fast the time has gone!

My First Grandchild at 21 Weeks

This is a picture of my daughter, Cassie, at 21 weeks. This was probably the best part of her pregnancy - - after the morning sickness and before the discomfort. This is also when she started feeling the baby move a lot.

She thought she was huge here . . . but wait until you see later pictures!

This picture was taken at the same time that Cassie went for her first ultrasound. I was able to be there with her, as I have been for everything throughout her pregnancy. She was 16 when she got pregnant, and is now 17, so she lives with me and I've been able to be there every step of the way. It's a privilege and an experience that I may not otherwise have had.

Love . . .

My First Grandchild: Ultrasound at 21 Weeks

You know, I never stop being amazed when I look at this photograph. It was just about as amazing seeing all of my grandchild's little parts as it was to see my own kids via ultrasound. We could see his fingers and hands, his legs, the details of his face and the structure of his body and major organs and bones. Incredible! He's perfect and healthy and so cute! Don't you love his little profile here in this picture?

More From the Ultrasound

My First Grandchild at 41 Weeks

Remember how I said that Cassie thought she was huge at 21 weeks?? She now knows differently! She's not a very big person and her poor tummy is just huge! She was due on February 12. It's now February 15, so she's almost 41 weeks. Overdue. Stretched. And frustrated! But she's handling things really well, just like she has the entire time. She truly amazes me how well she has taken care of herself and the baby, how much she loves him, and how much she has grown and matured over the course of her pregnancy.

I can't wait for him to be born and I can't wait to hold him (Cassie can't wait either!). Cassie has asked me to be with her during the labor and delivery. What an incredible, spiritual experience that's going to be!

Oh, Her Poor Tummy!

Really Ready!

Love this lens and it is repetitious of my first grandsons arrival. My daughter was 17 when she got pregnant and lived at home with me during that time. Also wanted me at the birth and I held him for the first 2 hours of his life. He is now 22 and a lovely young man. Great story, blessed and featured on Blessed by Skiesgreen 2012 and also on How to Baby, hugs

Any updates yet! We're all waiting in anticipation. My daughter is due next Wednesday the 25th. She is only about the size that Cassie was at 21weeks. I hope everything goes well. I'm heading up to be with my daughter on Monday so won't be around for a while.

Wow, I enjoyed reading every bit of this - you must be so thrilled that your first grandchild is just around the corner. I'm sure your daughter can't wait to see her firstborn too. I'm excited to see the lens you will write once he is born. *blessed*

Congratulations you soon to be Grandma! Poor Cassie...that looks like it hurts! I was there for the delivery of both of my little granddaughters and it was awesome! Well, actually I was afraid I was going to pass out with my own daughter...couldn't stand her discomfort! With daughter-in-law I became the last minute coach because her Mom just couldn't take it. I was calmer with that one. It is a miracle that means even more when you see it first hand.
