Squidoo Payday - The First of Many!

I got paid! So, how did I earn this handsome sum? How does Squidoo payday work? What's revenue share? What about royalty payments?....It's all here.

I am a stay at home Mum looking to build an extra income from home and each month I am the happy recipient of a Squidoo Payday.

Look! My First Squidoo Pay Note

It's only peanuts but it's a start. I'm proud as punch, I have started to make an income from home and from here my Squidoo earnings will only grow.

My Second Squidoo Payday

Doubles the Lenses, Double the Money!

Income From Home - Squidoo Payday

At $1.09 my second Squidoo payday is almost double my first. This February 2011 payment relates to lens performance for December 2010 and thanks to Squidoo's super new payment reports I can see exactly which lenses I was paid for and a break down of payments by lens.

In a nutshell, I doubled my earnings by taking my portfolio from two to four lenses. I'm now looking forward to building more great lenses and watching my income from home grow...and grow...and grow!

Squidoo Payday - When You Get Paid

Squidoo paydayAmongst other things Squidoo is a revenue share site. This means that Squidoo lensmasters (the people who spend time creating, publishing and promoting Squidoo pages) earn a percentage of the total advertising revenue Squidoo.com earns from Adsense, Infolink and Chitika (inclusion in the Infolink and Chitika revenue share is optional).

Squidoo payday comes on or near the 15th of every month (it's always early and never late) and how much a lensmaster earns depends upon the average ranking of each of their lenses.

As soon as they have been live for a month, lenses qualify for the revenue share program and exactly 3 months after the publication of the first lens new squids will enjoy the first of many Squidoo paydays.

Like most revenue share sites Squidoo pay their members in arrears. This means that the January 2011 Squidoo payday related to site activity for the period 1st - 30th November 2010.

How I Qualified for Squidoo Payday

My Story, An Example of How it Works

I launched my first lens 8 October 2010, closely followed by How To Make A Disco Cake and The Perfect Disco Party for Kids.

I qualified for payday 3 months later on 8th January 2011.

Working in arrears, the January 2011 Squidoo Payday covered the period 1 - 30 November 2010.

During this period the three lenses I launched in October became 1 month old thereby qualifying for the Squidoo revenue share program. Yipee!

Each of them was a Tier 3 lens.

Squidoo Payday - Revenue Share

The Squidoo Tier System

Squidoo paydayEvery Squidoo payday a proportion of the total revenue for each program - Adsense, Infolink and Chitika - is allocated on a Tier system with Tier One lenses receiving the highest payment, Tier 3 the smallest payout. Each month the size of the payment varies relative to site traffic and click throughs.

The very nice people at Squidoo advise members not to waste their time trying to calculate or deconstruct the extremely complex Tier payment system. They rightly suggest that time would be more wisely spent creating and grooming a portfolio of highly popular lenses. However, to give you some idea of the extra income you might be able to earn I'm sharing the average monthly Adsense payments for a lens within each tier between January and November 2010 with guidelines for the relationship between lensrank and Tier:

Tier 1 ---- $17.80 ---- Lensrank 1 - 2000
Tier 2 ---- $3.02 ------ Lensrank 2001 - 10,000
Tier 3 ---- $0.15 ------ Lensrank 10,001 - 86,000

Adsense is by far the most lucrative revenue share stream on Squidoo but it's not the only way to create an income from home with Squidoo.

Infolinks and Chitika also offer extra income through revenue share with average monthly payments for a Tier 1 lens in January to November 2010 equating to $4.89 from Infolinks and just less than $1 from Chitika.

My First Squidoo Payday Lenses

I launched my first Squidoo lens on 8 October 2010. This was my first experiment with Squidoo and although live, this lens remains an unfinished symphony. As a result it's ranking is so low that it does not qualify for the revenue share program.

Thankfully, I also launched two other lenses in October - How to Make A Disco Cake is consistently the most popular and highest ranked of my lenses, it is closely followed by The Perfect Disco Party for Kids.

These are the lenses that earned me $0.58 - my first payday lenses. In my humble opinion, they're also good examples of Tier 3 lenses.

Squidoo Payday and Me

On Tuesday 12 January 2011 I received revenue share for the period 1 - 30 November.

During this period I was master of 3 qualifying lenses, each ranked in Tier 3.

I did not make any sales via my lenses and therefore did not receive royalty payments.

My first Squidoo payday equated to $0.58.

Squidoo Payday - Royalty Payments

Earn Commission from Affiliate Sales

And there's more...every Squidoo lens offers the opportunity to earn an affiliate payment through the sale of products on Amazon, eBay and iTunes. Simple modules (just like this one) allow lensmasters to easily promote relevant products from any of these sites. Every time a reader clicks from a lens through to make a purchase the lensmaster receives a commission or royalty payment.

I've included a series of books on how to make money online with Squidoo as an example of the royalty system in action. If you click on one of the links below and buy one of these great value books today I will receive a royalty payment. A small thank you from Amazon for helping them make a sale.

I Made a Sale!

Tuesday 24th January 2011

Squidoo have informed me that an Amazon item was "purchased off your lens, or during a visitor's shopping session that started because of your lens".

More exciting news and a big thank you to my first buyer!

My First Royalty Payment

The Lens That Helped it Happen

My first Squidoo sale was made when somebody purchased a book via this lens.

Lensmasters receive a 4.25% royalty commission on Amazon purchases. The book I sold "Long Tail, The Revised and Updated Edition by Chris Anderson" was priced at $9.34. For reference I've featured it in the side bar of this lens or you may choose to visit the lens that helped it happen.

As part of the March 2011 payday I will be paid 39cents for this January sale. I'm thrilled!

I've just spent half an hour hunting down a lens that got down to the nitty gritty, none of the other lenses I visited actually laid out the tier system in black and white, thanks for the info!
