First Time Gardener
The most exciting thing you'll ever do in your gardening life is to create your first new garden. When you first look out of the window at a pile of builders rubbish a groan of dismay how on earth are you ever going to turn that disaster area into a thing of beauty?
You may be put off by the thought of all the work a good garden entails. A well thoughout and properly planted garden will take half the work demanded by a weed infested mess.
Cutting a good lawn once a week takes a fifth of the time needed to cut a poor one once a month.
Weeding a well planted garden is something you'll actually look forward to doing once or twice a year. Plants in well planted borders won't put up with an invasion of weeds.
But worst of all you may feel that you just don't like gardening, most of us have memories of all that boring weeding we had to do for dad when we were kids.
The marvellous thing about gardening is that anyone who is prepared to learn just a few basic rules can do it successfully, regardless of the conditions and satisfaction to be got over the years from growing plants well.
Basic rule for first time gardening is don't try to fight nature work with it instead. You can't make a shady garden sunny for instance, but you can choose to grow shade loving plants that are as beautiful as the sun lovers.
Of course there's plenty you can do to improve poor soil, you can't alter its character.
If you're new to gardening my blog show's you how to choose the right plant's for the particular conditions in your garden however big, small.

A Beginner's Guide to Flower Gardening
The first thing you need to do is learn a little bit about flowers in general. You need to understand the difference between annuals and perennials, for example. Annuals need to be replanted every year, and perennials keep blooming year after year.
Always br sure to plan your flower garden carefully. You must choose flowers that will grow well in your area. Plan the location carefully, so your flowers get just the right amount of sun and shade for that variety. You also need to be sure your plants don't get too much water, but they need to receive enough to stay healthy.
If your soil is sandy add some compost, peat,or manure because sandy soil won't hold moisture very well. If you have clay soil, you'll need to add some sand, grit, and compost to encourage better drainage. Compost is very important to provide nutrients it sets up an ideal drainage condition.
Be sure not to plant your flowers to deep. By planting to deep the plant may die, always have the compost in the pot level with the soil.
Plant perennials and annuals together to fill in any gaps between the plants. Perennials will bloom every year. During the growing period any growth made in spring and summer will die back during the winter and start growing again in the spring
Annuals only bloom for a single season. perennials are grouped into early, mid ,and late season flowering.
By planting a wide variety in your garden you can spread the flowering display through to the end of the season by removing the dead flowers keep well water during hot weather the more you remove dead flowers the more you get and to stop the plants going to seed.
You should make sure you have some benefical insects in your garden butterflies, bees, ladybirds, lacewings, dragonflies, will help to kill harmful insects. These insects prey upon other bugs like aphids, you want to encourage beneficial insects to visit your garden and stay there.
Remember to plan your garden carefully from the start you want to choose colours that complement each other. You could group white, blue and purple together, another group pink and red, or red, yellow and orange. You can add white to any colour scheme red goes well with almost any colour.
A colour scheme is important in a garden the appearance is one of the most important parts of any flower garden.

- Its always best to pick healthy plant's green foliage, no root's coming from the bottom of the pot, and no weeds on the surface of the compost, been in the pot to long.
Plant in right soil conditions then you have no problems

- I developed my love of gardening as a young child... there is always something new to learn. The good new is that if something doesn't grow well or simply dies... you dig it up and plant something else!
