Who will be the first husband to become First Gentleman of the United States?

What's wrong with this picture? Nothing at all, but imagine the picture reversed, with Hillary's hand on the Bible, swearing to uphold the Constitution of the United States, and former president Bill Clinton proudly looking on.

On January 20, 2009, the United States could have faced two "firsts" had the primaries gone differently. One could have been the first female president, a former First Lady. Second could have been the first husband of a United States president.

Yes, America, Bill Clinton could have become the first First Gentleman of the United States of America.

Better luck next election cycle, Bill and Hillary!

"First Gentleman" at a Glance

He could choose a different title.

First Lady is the unofficial title in a number of countries of the wife of an elected male head of state. It originated in the United States in 1849, when United States President Zachary Taylor called Dolley Madison "First Lady" at her state funeral while reciting a eulogy written by himself. Occasionally another woman, such as the President's daughter, will fill the duties of First Lady as hostess in the White House, if the President's wife is unwilling, unable, or if the President is a widower or bachelor. The current First Lady of the United States is Michelle Obama, wife of Barack Obama....

William Jefferson "Bill" Clinton

A brief biography

William Jefferson "Bill" Clinton (born William Jefferson Blythe III, August 19, 1946) served as the 42nd President of the United States from 1993 to 2001. He was the third-youngest president; only Theodore Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy were younger when entering office. He became president at the end of the Cold War, and as he was born in the period after World War II, he is known as the first Baby Boomer president. His wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton, is currently the United States Secretary of State. She was previously a United States Senator from New York, and also candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008. Both are graduates of Yale Law School.

Clinton was described as a New Democrat and was largely known for the Third Way philosophy of governance that came to epitomize his two terms as president. His policies, on issues such as the North American Free Trade Agreement and welfare reform, have been described as centrist. Clinton presided over the longest period of...

Product Description
ROAD TO THE PRESIDENCY is an unprecedented view of the 1992 Presidential election. Taking the viewer far more "inside" than The War Room, the three documentaries on this DVD present startlingly up-close views of Bill Clinton's path through the primaries, the Democratic convention, and the televised debates with President George H.W. Bush. Produced for PBS' groundbreaking series "The 90s," and directed by pioneering video journalist Scott Jacobs (True Life Video Stories), ROAD TO THE PRESIDENCY goes far beyond simple campaign reporting. It is compelling viewing that is at times funny and poignant as well as instructive. ROAD TO THE PRESIDENCY provides unique perspective from which to help navigate the 2004 Presidential election.

The (possible future) First Husband hasn't exactly been the best husband in the world.

January 17, 2008. The scandal turns 10.

The Monica Lewinsky scandal was a political-sex scandal emerging from a sexual relationship between United States President Bill Clinton and a then 22-year-old White House intern, Monica Lewinsky. The news of this extra-marital affair and the resulting investigation eventually led to the impeachment of President Clinton in 1998 by the U.S. House of Representatives and his subsequent acquittal on all charges (of perjury and obstruction of justice) in a 21-day Senate trial.

In 1995, Monica Lewinsky, a graduate of Lewis & Clark College, was hired to work as an intern at the White House during Clinton's first term. The two began a sexual relationship.

As Lewinsky's relationship with Clinton became more distant and after she had left the White House to work at the Pentagon, Lewinsky confided details of her feelings and Clinton's behavior to her friend and Defense Department co-worker Linda Tripp, who secretly recorded their telephone conversations. When Tripp discovered in January 1998 that Lewinsky had signed an affidavit in the Paula Jones case denying a relationship with Clinton, she delivered the tapes to Kenneth Starr, the independent counsel who was investigating Clinton on various other matters, including the Whitewater scandal, Filegate, and Travelgate.

Great as president, not so great as a husband. I'm amazed Hillary stayed with him - but then a divorced woman in the White House would be even more revolutionary than having a 'first gentleman' (isn't a lady married to a gentleman?)
