That's awesome. I just finished creating my first lens...do I need to make different lenses for each blog I post? Or do I have to re-create brand new lenses for completely separate topics?

I think it is important to "be yourself" when creating a lens. I think so many people try to make an amazing lens by talking about something the think people will want to hear that they forget to write about what they know best.

Hi, thank you for a very helpful guide.
Unfortunately, I saw it after I have created my first lens so I have made a worrisome mistake.
When I edited my profile I didn't understand that my username will be my public name on the blog so I wrote something that doesn't match my needs.
Is there a way that squidoo team can help me revise my username? If not, how can I start over? Do I need to erase my account?

And another question- How can I make my full name and my email adress private?
    Thanks!!
  • lakeerieartists Nov 12, 2010 @ 4:20 pm | delete
I am a little confused by your question because I do not see any profile up at all on your account. However, you cannot change your lensmaster name without starting from scratch.

  • MaximillianHeadroom Aug 17, 2010 @ 11:58 am | delete
Hi, Very inforomative but i have a question. I am a Hubber and have been told Squidoo is better. So I am giving it a try. There are many similarities, but one thing i cannot find is how do I review my page as if it is live (without the text block markers etc)? I need to see it as others will once it is published, before I publish it.
    Thanks
  • lakeerieartists Sep 7, 2010 @ 9:51 am | delete
There is a preview button on the workshop page that you can click to see it "live".

Great info, but as a new squid, i am having a problem loading a video. i do the copy and paste from the embed code that you tube gives me, i thought it might be just the video, but every on i try says that link will not work after posting, anyone have a answer? i went thru squid U to find the answer but no luck. is there maybe a long delay after updating lens then publishing it then a wait time before the video comes on line?
  • lakeerieartists Jul 5, 2010 @ 12:55 pm | delete
Hi and welcome. You should be able to load a video by just putting the video url into the video module. Don't need the entire embed code.

You have a wealth of information here. But I'm really not sure now that I have my lens set up right. Just did it last night. I made a "Who Is" page as my main page. I'm in IM also. After reading this, I'm wondering if I should have two accounts, one for personal, and one for IM. (Perhaps with links?). I also don't know if I have everything set up right. Like the one page you can't change, forget what that was now. Can you look at this for me? I also didn't see your contact information but will go back and see if I can find it. My first lens is Who Is Rhonda Leigh Tardif and the second is A View of My Son George. I also notice when I'm in the Dashboard, it shows that both of my lenses are the same, A View of My Son George. Also, if I do publsih my storey The Light Still Shines, would each post be a new lens? So many questions, but I'm a bit confused. Thanks
  • lakeerieartists Jun 21, 2010 @ 11:27 am | delete
Each lens is a single page. So yes, each would be a new lens if you put in a new url. That is how Squidoo is set up. You can set up two accounts if you wish or you can use one account for whatever you need. I only have one account that I use for everything.

Hi i have just built my first lens but i am confused about the Big Arrow section.
It asks. What is the URL you want to promote.I have a link to the product i wish to promote do i put this here. This is a website address that is linked to the product.
Whats the link name. What do i put in here,i have been told this should link to my product page.
Sorry about this,i am still learning
    Dave
  • lakeerieartists May 17, 2010 @ 8:19 am | delete
    Hi Dave.
The big arrow module is for anything that you wish to highlight. So you can definitely put your url there that you want to promote. Link name is what you wish to appear on the page for the url.
  • JonMartinEsq May 5, 2010 @ 2:48 pm | delete
Good Job. I learned some good stuff here. Will Be Sure to use the info that you gave me.

Sorry, I did not get very far, could not even create my first lense. Was asked to inquire for help. My URL-add-on was
    new-medical-paradigm
    with heading
    New medical paradigm changes everything
with nothing at end, or a period or an exclamation mark (which I deleted on recycling).

I don't see a Contact Me button on the pg. I need help w/Photo Gallery but can't find any info re my problem. I've been trying for two days to add Photo Gallery to my first lens. It doesn't work. When I click on Add Photos the pg goes gray & the Add Photos box reappears at the bottom. I first joined Squidoo last spring & gave up on it because of the problem w/Photo Gallery. I decided to try again & problem is still there. I thought I could add photos thru Flickr but they require that I license my photots & I don't think I should have to do that. I'd prefer to add directly to the lens w/o going thru a 3rd party. Contact me at loricherokee@yahoo.com

Hi I am having problems with step three Set your lens URL:
www.squidoo.com/ each time i put in a word then press next nothing happens except it tells me something about not getting to fancy I dont know whats wrong can you help please thanks liz
  • lakeerieartists Jan 8, 2010 @ 2:32 pm | delete
Not sure exactly what you are doing. Make sure you are not leaving any spaces. You can put a dash or just put the words together. Are you sure that it is not telling you it is a duplicate url? If neither of those work, go to the forum on SquidU for help in the Help section for more help.

This is a wonderful lens and full of information that I didn't know.

I have a question, a certain new lans person has taken the charts from one of my lenses and copied and pasted the charts into his own lens... as his own. The charts are vital to my lens success and it actually takes me quite a while to get the information for the charts and then put them in chart form and addd them to my lenses. I reported the lens, but it is still up and running. Do you know where else I can turn to for help?

    My lens is http://www.squidoo.com/Farmville.
    The copycat lens is http://www.squidoo.com/farmvilletips.

I thank you in advance for your time... I just thought that you might be able to point me in the right direction.

I tried to answer your questions but you have not left any way for people to contact you either on your lenses or turning on your contact me button.

So I will answer here to the best of my ability, and hope that you will read it. The green links are text link ads that Squidoo is experimenting with. You can opt out of them if you choose. From a quick scan of your top two lenses, it looks like all of your links are the same to a Clickbank product. I would recommend breaking up your text, making sure that the text is original personal writing, putting in more resources on diabetes from Amazon, and creating a discussion either with a duel module or a comments module, otherwise it looks like you are just here to promote the Clickbank product.

This is great but I really cannot seem to get any decent rating for my lens, I am really trying to promote a subject I know very personally and want to help any others who may be affected. I have added modules and content as advised but still I am 120,000 in rank and I fear I may never get the chance to tell those in need of my experiences.
What am I doing wrong, are you able to help?
I also get links added to my text that take me to sites i have no idea about and often are not relevant. If anyone reads them and goes there they may get the wrong idea, can I stop this happening; I have writtn a disclaimer in desperation if anyone does get to one of my pages but as yet that is a distant hope.

You know, most people have no time to talk...and you just know they have the best stories to tell, and are full of expertise. A lenses is just perfect to find out all the good stuff...I sent my friend the link to this page because she's struggling along making her first lens. She has lifetime experience with looking after people's pets, and her own...& I'm just dying to know, especially since she's funny! And my other friend knows everything about travel & I know nothing...wish she would make a lens, too :)

I'm quite new to this, but have built 2 lens. The problem being is my profile page, somewhere along the way I've messed up and when I go to put my lens or anything on their I get a message back " Household Hints Around The Home" are invalid. I'm can't move on until I get this problem sorted. Very Frustrating. Would appreciate any help you can give me

Lensroll is a link that shows up on another lens. So I can lensroll this lens to any of my other lenses or lensroll someone else's lenses to any of my lenses. The lensroll shows up in the right hand bar on each lens.

    Hi Paula!
I'm a completely newby and your tips are very good! I have many questions and I'm going to take my Squidooing step by step, but I wonder something right now: what is lensroll? What do you do with it?

Thank you very much for all the tips!
    Best regards!

There seems to be a little bug with the WIP status and the published status (green checks). I would wait until lensrank updates tomorrow, usually by 10 am, and if it doesn't change after that, send in a bug report. Could be the timing of when you published them compared to when the lensrank updated or something like that.
  • EverythingJogging Jun 10, 2009 @ 11:32 pm | delete
Question please. I published my first 6 lenses 2 weeks ago and the green checks appeared within 30 minutes. I published my next 6 yesterday and 1 got the green check immediately but the other 5 still have not been checked. It has been about 36 hours. Is this normal? Thanks for your help

Hi, it sounds like you haven't hit the publish button in your workshop mode. Go to the lens workshop, at the top of the page is a big orange publish button. Hit that button to publish your lens. Once it is done, the lens will say that it has published.

Hey I am wondering if anybody can help me , I have made my first two squidoo lenses, and they are still "under review" after almost two months! This is really anoying there is nothing spammy about my lenses, and even after I emailed squidoo about 7 times I havent got a single reply apart from the one which is automated saying they have received my email. Does anyone have any suggestions? I would be really greatfull , Thanks!

Thanks, that was good info, but I am still having terrible trouble with the very basic basics. I can't get my link to my webpage to work even tho I have used the codes you tell me do (how do you use them???). Also I want to establish a "persona". I think I saw something for "signature" but I can't find it now. I want to use my real picture, but with my nickname.

Wonderful information for a newbie. Wish I'd had this page to read before I started my lensography. The Writing Tips are very well done -- you've obviously had journalism training or experience as those are the basic questions a newspaper writer learns to follow. I've learned many hints here that I can use to 'improve' my lensography and incorporate into my next lens. Thank you for putting this all together in such an easy to read style. 5* & fav'd.

    Absolutely fan@#%$ingtastic!

Funny thing about Avitars, mine in particular. I am beginning to use a different one for each lens because it seems to add to the character of the lens. But, that's my preference.

This is getting a feature spot in the Resources section of my lensography.

    Thanks!

Thank you for this lens. 5 stars and a favorite. There are a lot of things on here that make sense and that I need to think about. The main thing that hit me like lightning is that I need to make my introduction modules smaller. You're right and I felt like I was rambling, but I thought I had to put it all in there. I'm going back to all of my lenses to break everything up. Thanks again. Missy

Hi Margaret, my name is Carol. I really enjoyed reading your lens, being new to Squidoo, I have bookmarked it for future reference. I wrote my first lens a few days ago, introduced myself to the forum and did get some feedback and visits especially from Stumblupon.com. My first lens is a description of a very funny card game that my family played over the holidays, in fact I got great feedback (verbally) from some of my friends after they played it. Hope you can take the time to read it and to actually play it!

I just made my first lens - thought it was pretty complete but find out that it is a WIP! I'll be working on it again tomorrow, and think I can create several other lenses from this. Visiting squidu will be a good idea because I need to know what to do after I publish..
I spend so much time reading other peoples' lenses that it is hard to finish my own, this is a fascinating place.

The other day I sent you a question about setting my first of many lenses but I think I forgot to give you a place to send to your answer and so here we go again. My question deals with I have several articles I have written and would like to make lenses out of them but I am not sure when creating the lense for the first time is the title a general title for all my articles or is it just for each article written and on the url is that one general url for all articles or is that one url per article. Before I start putting together my lenses I would like to get some direction on this. Thanks for your help. John (my email address: jalsm5@yahoo.com)

    Please Help.

I am new and quite lost. I need to ask if I can add an affiliate link ( my own ) and if so, where do I place it ? Also, how to add a photo. Finally, why does it still say underconstruction ?

    Respectfully,
    Michelle in Michigan
  • John Lange Jan 27, 2009 @ 7:25 pm | delete
I pretty much understand setting up my first lense but my question comes is on the 2nd or more lenses. I hope explain this correctly. If you are going to submit several articles you have written would each one these be a lense.

Where I am confused is the step setting up the url and title. Would each article have its own url for the lense and title and not one general url and title for all the articles I have written.

    Thanks
    John
