    I used to have a small Koi pond. I'd like to build another in my next house. Cute fish.

    I understand that some Koi can get to be massive in size, although ours didn't quite get the chance to do so.

    One day I saw a red-tailed hawk sitting on a fence overlooking our pond and peering intently at the water. Sadly within a day all of our orange and yellow Koi were gone. We had some black ones that continued to do just fine though :p

    Koi are as interesting to watch as they are beautiful. They are also quite hardy, making it possible for many water gardeners to successfully keep koi in their ponds.

    We added 10 small goldfish to our garden pond for our wedding. For the next 8 winters we moved them indoors, then put them back outside in the spring. They loved their life and increased to more than 24 until last spring when a big blue heron discovered them and had a nice lunch while I was away from home. We miss our little pals - they did let us know when they wanted to be fed - they would smack their lips at the water's surface to call us!

    How delightful! I'd say you know quite a lot about Koi and you have me wanting some. I love the watermelon picture and how you mention the differing personalities and that you notice distinct differences. Did I say delightful, well, let me repeat the...absolutely Delightful!

    I never imagined Koi ate watermelon. I love these fish and as an artist I am always trying to capture their beauty. Usually unsuccessfully. :)

    What a great lens. I love the beautiful images. They had a large Koi pond at the Chiropractic College I attended. My young son loved them and we spent hours watching them together over the years we were there. I never realized they grew so large! Thanks for the great lens!

    One of my friends has a pond and Koi. They are fun to watch and feed. I love how you set-up this lens. Excellent balance and color. ***** and a lens roll to my reference lens: Best Online Reference.

    I love what Karla wrote. I did not even think a fish would like to play like that. I would love to have a fish like that! This is an exceptional lens! I am going to pay more attention to fish. beautiful lens, and thank you for sharing all this information about fish...I knew there was a reason I can not eat a fish.

    I interviewed an aquatic veterinarian last week and posed the question..."In your opinion do Koi actually make good pets?" Her answer was that they do get to know you. Her Koi always come to see her when she goes out to her pond. In fact, one of her Koi, Elvis, likes for her to pick him up and toss him out into the pond and keeps swimming back to her for more "play". She also says that if she visits a pond on a veterinary call initially the fish generally will come over to see who she is and perhaps get treats...BUT on return visits they have figured out she is "the vet" and will swim away and hide rather than getting poked and prodded!

    I found that information to be quite interesting!
