Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Kitchen

Another fun toy I came across while brainstorming gifts for my soon to be one year old is the Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Kitchen. While the Zebra Scooter will be fun for him in a little bit, the kitchen would be fun right now. And I'd like at least one of my children to be interested in cooking so they can take over for me in about ten years!

This particular toy is really cute. I like how it helps them build a large vocabulary of words in both English and Spanish. This should give him a head start for later in life. And since I know the older kids will play with it too, they'll benefit as well.

I also like the wide variety of interactive features. It has both a stove and a fridge side, with many different sound effects and lots of different sounds. It's crazy how many more features they pack into the same toys in just a few short years!

Anyhow, keep reading to learn what all comes with the Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Kitchen, as well as what reviewers had to say!

Laugh and Learn Kitchen Features - What Does the Fisher Price Learning Kitchen Do?

fisher price learning kitchenSo, what does this kitchen do anyhow? What can you expect from it if you buy it for your child?

It comes with four different modes. You can set it to play music, to talk in English, to talk in Spanish, or not to talk at all (if you are tired of listening to noisy toys!) This makes so you don't quickly get tired of one sort of sound from the kitchen.

You can play with it open or shut. On one side is the stove, which opens and closes. There are also buttons that make several different sound effects, like a light switch that says on or off, and a burner which makes boiling noises. There is also a faucet which makes running water noises. Your child will feel like she's really cooking!

On the other side is a fridge which has three differently shaped slots for sliding a carton of milk, a bunch of carrots, and a jar of applesauce into. This encourages sorting skills.

The toy then opens up to a storage compartment which holds a plastic pot, plastic spoon and plastic food as mentioned above. There's also a built in book that encourages vocabulary development in English and Spanish for your child.

It does come with three AA batteries, although you will need extras to replace them as time goes on.

Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Kitchen Reviews

Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Learning KitchenNow that we know what is included with this toy, what do people who own it have to say. Are there any problems? Do children actually enjoy this toy?

Looking at reviews, one common problem comes up. The refrigerator side is much lighter than the stove side, which causes it to swing shut suddenly. Some people mentioned their baby got her fingers pinched. However, other people said their child did not have a problem with it. I would imagine if you set it up on a carpet, it should be okay. One reviewer also said she took the two sides apart, and then things were fine.

Here's what Marie said:

This is one of the few toys my 17 month old son still plays with. He practices putting the food shapes in the holes, turns on and off the light, and interacts with the toy by putting the pan on the stove, in the oven, and in the sink. We also interact with him and ask him questions - which makes it a lot more fun for him!

I like that it has four sound settings so I don't get tired of hearing it. After reading other reviews, we've never had a problem with his fingers getting pinched, even though he moves the kitchen around a great deal. This may be something he learned how to avoid though."

Little Tikes Discover Sounds Kitchen Playset

little tikes discover sound kitchenAnother kitchen playset you may want to consider is the Little Tikes Kitchen playset. We actually had this one for our daughter when she was a baby. It worked pretty well - she like the sounds and she liked sorting the shapes through the refrigerator door. However, the door tended to come off easily and it wasn't the easiest thing to get back on!

It doesn't have as many features as the Fisher Price kitchen, but it is still pretty nice. And it is less expensive, which is always helpful!
