classic fishing and angling posters and photographs
There are some classic fishing and angling posters that reflect some appealing artwork styles. Fishing of course is a traditional pastime and these traditions are seen in the art of fishing and angling posters.
I could never be described as an angler and yet I absolutely love watching fishing programs on television. I have been fishing occasionally. Like most children I went down the local ponds and streams to catch Sticklebacks, and once or twice I go with friends to the River Trent in the UK and we might be lucky enough to catch a gudgeon or a small Roach.
The guy I originally followed on TV was Australian Rex Hunt. I'm sure he was the guy who originated the idea of kissing the fish he caught before returning them to the water. More recently I have been watching Matt Hayes and also Extreme Fishing with angling fan, and actor Robson Green.
I guess its the dream of many a Dad to go fishing with their kids. I was no exception when my boys were younger. Not being an angler meant that I decided to take them on a 'learn to fly fish' day in the English District. Now that was an experience. My youngest boy was seven at the time and watching him sit in a boat in the middle of lake casting out was amazing. We actually managed to catch one trout which was landed in the boat and then kept in plastic bag. I was horrified when we got back to the jetty when my little boy was swinging the plastic bag with fish in and bashing it on the ground. When I asked what he was doing he cooly replied 'just making sure its dead Dad!' Out the mouths of babes I thought.
I did own a cane fly fishing rod once but never used it. I think I inherited it from an Uncle then traded it with a friend for some toy soldiers or something. Would I like to go fishing again? Sure I think I would. I'm not sure about kissing fish and I feel OK about catching fish for my supper as long as it is necessary. I prefer the idea of returning the catch though. Luckily I am a short drive from Rutland Water where you can buy a day fishing ticket.
